On Jos Buttler stepping down as England captain...

I have no doubt that he [Brendan McCullum] has his own thoughts on leadership and captaincy.

50-over cricket, they've not played it too well. I'm involved in the county game and I think it's such a great competition.

The talent floating around in country cricket is massive. I wonder if it's a great chance to say, 'we're going for a young team and a young captain and go for it'.

Jos Buttler has announced he will step down as England's white-ball captain following his side's Champions Trophy exit.

The 34-year-old will lead England for the final time in their last group match against South Africa on Saturday.

England have lost 15 of their last 21 one-day internationals, including defeats against Australia and Afghanistan that ended their Champions Trophy campaign.

"It's the right time for me and the team," said Buttler.

  3. Aus 96-1published at 11 overs

    Target 274

Spinner Noor Ahmad follows Mohammad Nabi's lead and produces a tidy over, conceding six runs.

Should Hashmatullah Shahidi have turned to his spinners earlier?

  4. 50 runs

50 for Travis Headpublished at 10.4 overs

    Aus 95-1

Travis Head runs two to bring up his half-century off 34 balls.

His knock has included eight fours and one sixes and he's taking down everything Afghanistan chuck his way.

Remember, he was dropped by Rashid Khan on six.

  5. Dropped catches cost Afghanistanpublished at 13:52 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February

Well, it's been a frenetic first 10 overs and Australia appear to be flying into the semi-finals.

How much do Afghanistan regret dropping Travis Head on six?

  6. Aus 90-1published at 10 overs

184 runs needed from 40 overs

Australia are cruising at the end of the powerplay. The required rate is well below five and their 274 target is well within their reach.

Steve Smith has 13 (13) while Travis Head is rampaging on 48 (32).

Noor Ahmad is the new man into the attack.

  7. Aus 86-1published at 9 overs

    Target 274

Unfortunately for Afghanistan, Australia are quickly back in boundaries.

Three fours in a row from the bat of Travis Head, who is scoring all around the ground.

  8. Aus 73-1published at 8 overs

    Target 274

Australia are content to run hard against Mohammad Nabi's spin.

Six runs from the over but no boudaries. Everything's just settling down a little bit.

Change of tactic from Hashmatullah Shahidi.

He needs something to change the trajectory of this match so he turns to experienced spinner Mohammad Nabi.

  10. Aus 67-1published at 7 overs

    Target 274

A controlled over from Azmatullah Omarzai brings just a trio of singles. I think we all needed that moment of calm after the furious start to this chase.

Will we see a bowling change from Afghanistan or has Ryan Campbell called it correctly? Will Fazalhaq Farooqi continue?

Afghanistan are very much a team who need to go by the playbook. If something goes awry they're a bit slow to change.

Travis Head has done that beautifully. So much time, he has just waited for it. Again, a fast bowler struggling to get out of his own over.

  12. Aus 64-1published at 6 overs

    Target 274

Travis Head picks off three more boundaries as Australia race to 64-1.

The second, reaching out on one knee to flay the ball over mid-off, is very pleasing indeed. The third, a short ball scooped over the wicketkeeper, is delicious.

    Frowns all round from Afghanistan.

That's how you bat. Timing, head positioning, and perfectly balanced.

That's where you cannot bowl to Steve Smith.

  14. Aus 52-1published at 5 overs

    Target 274

    The action doesn't stop!

A dropped catch, a wicket and then back-to-back fours from new batter Steve Smith to get off the mark in style. Both boundaries are gifts from Azmatullah Omarzai. Australia are flying.

Again, Matt Short limited in his movements.

Unfortunately, he couldn't get forward or back, and he managed to spoon it to mid-on.

Gulbadin Naib has a safe pair of hands! At the third attempt Afghanistan have their wicket.

They handed Matt Short a lifeline at the start of the over but it hasn't proved too costly. The injured opener pops one up to mid-on and Naib makes no mistake.

The biceps are out in celebration. Wow, Afghanistan needed that.

What are we watching? What's going on? We were raving about Afghanistan's calmness.

If there's an Achilles heel, I will say, their fielding has never been great.

There is shaking of heads going on. This will test them.

    Aus 43-0

If I'm Afghanistan's fielding coach, I'm tearing my hair out right now.

Matt Short pulls Azmatullah Omarzai into the deep but sub fielder Kharoti lets the ball through his fingers. Disastrous fielding.
