    PNG 41-2

Close. Ferguson, round the wicket to Amini. Not out on field. Reviewed.

  2. PNG 41-2published at 11 overs

AB de Villiers is another one with a wicket and a stumping. Quite obvious he's got an all-round record, given he was superb at pretty much every sport.

PNG might just about crawl to 100 at this rate.

I think you've got two frustrated teams here. New Zealand will have wanted more wickets from their output, while Papua New Guinea have crawled to 35, they'll want to go out with a score.

  4. PNG 35-2published at 10 overs

Gavin Hamilton. Gary Kirsten. Clyde Walcott.

Sodhi drops short and Bau rocks back to take four through mid-wicket. That takes us to drinks.

  5. PNG 27-2published at 9 overs

Rahul Dravid. Baz McCullum. Mark Boucher.

Javed Miandad took 24 wickets and three stumpings.

This was Lockie Ferguson's second wicket. He's off now. Mitchell Santner is bowling his left-arm tweak.

  6. PNG 25-2published at 8 overs

Ish Sodhi is bowling his leg-breaks. He asks for leg before against Bau and has the request turned down. Amini swings one through the leg side for four.

There are some great names on that stumping and wicket list, by the way.

You don't see this very often in a T20 - Lockie Ferguson has bowled two maidens.

  8. PNG 16-2published at 7 overs

Just checked. There are 60 men with at least one international wicket and stumping. 60!

Lockie Ferguson is yet to concede a run.

  9. PNG 16-2published at 6.3 overs

Having said that, Glenn Phillips bats, bowls and keeps. One of the few international cricketers with both an international wicket and a stumping.

  10. PNG 16-2published at 6 overs

We've all played with that sort of captain, haven't we? At my club, one of my best mates bats, bowls and occasionally keeps wicket. If he really wanted to be useful, he'd do teas and mark the pitch, too.

  11. PNG 16-2published at 5.3 overs

Tim Southee is into his third over. He might bowl four straight through. It's the sort of thing a skipper does...

I'm surprised Ish Sodhi has only played one game. He's got that X-factor, and when you look at most successful T20 sides around the world they have a wrist spinner.

  13. dropped catch

    Close!published at 5 overs

    PNG 14-2

Could have been a second in the over. New man Sese Bau defends, Amini sets off, then turns back. He would have been out had Glenn Phillips hit direct from point.

Great captaincy having the wide slip in. Straight to Daryl Mitchell - he's got massive hands, has Daryl.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.1 overs

    Vala c Mitchell b Ferguson 6 (PNG 14-2)

    First ball!

Lockie Ferguson's extra pace brings the second wicket. It's full, angled across, drawing Assad Vala into the drive. Daryl Mitchell, as a wide slip, does the rest, taking the catch above his head.

To lose almost an must-win game against Afghanistan straight away was a blow for New Zealand, especially after little preparation. We took a B side to Pakistan with nine or ten players at the IPL - you could say though that came in having played plenty of games, but you've got spend time together as a team, there's no substitute for spending time in the middle in these conditions.

  17. PNG 14-1published at 4 overs

We need to linger on the teal kit of New Zealand. It's magnificent. Proper 1999 World Cup vibes. Still with black caps, obviously.

  18. PNG 13-1published at 3.3 overs

Southee is bowling his second and the fourth of the innings. Here's the wicket from his previous over.

  19. PNG 12-1published at 3 overs

In terms of getting stuck, I once got locked inside a commentary box at the WACA. Took ages to get out.

  20. PNG 11-1published at 2.4 overs

There's not a lot of carry. Boult has adjusted his line to the left-handers. Vala is groping outside off stump. He's nought off 10, but off the 11th sashays down the pitch to hit straight for four.
