  1. Kent lead into three figurespublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 3 July

    Hampshire 505-8d v Kent 343 & 263-6

Australian Charlie Stobo has 36, 64 and 28 in his three knocks for Kent since his debut last week.

They are likely to need another sizeable contribution if they are to deny Hampshire here.

The lead is up to 101 - another one ticked off for Kent on their target list. The next one is tea... ideally with no further wickets falling.

Harry Finch has 44 from 70 balls at the other end.

    55 overs remain...

  2. 'A very disappointing end for Kohler-Cadmore'published at 14:30 British Summer Time 3 July

    Somerset 284 & 144-3 v Warwickshire 412 & 281-8 dec

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Tom Kohler-Cadmore went for a big hit over straight mid-wicket and got top edge and it's a very well judged catch by Ed Barnard running back at backward point.

That's a very disappointing end for Kohler-Cadmore who was just looking to unload there to reach his 50 with a big hit. Not connecting properly and he's gone for 49.

That definitely alters the balance of this game. Somerset have still got plenty of batting but as long as Kohler-Cadmore was out there you felt the potential for fast scoring.

  3. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Southportpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 3 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 191-4

    What a shame...

There are 53 overs left today but we won't see that many now.

In theory Lancs only need one. Joe Clarke has other ideas, mind you.

  4. Postpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 3 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 190-4

A rare loose ball from James Anderson, pitched up to Lyndon James, is given the treatment through the covers to start his latest over.

James has 24 from 85 deliveries.

The deficit is whittled down to 36 as a few brollies are popped up around the boundary rope.

  5. Postpublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 3 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 184-4

Just as yesterday, it's spitting at Southport, but they play on, for now.

George Balderson has come into the attack at the opposite end to James Anderson and continues to discomfort Lyndon James in particular.

  6. wicket

    WICKET Kohler-Cadmore c Barnard b Hannon-Dalby 49published at 14:21 British Summer Time 3 July

    Somerset 284 & 144-3 v Warwickshire 412 & 281-8 dec

Olly Hannon-Dalby is brought back into the attack and is immediately back in the wickets - his eighth of the match

This one is a bit of a gift as Tom Kohler-Cadmore skies a miscued shot high above Taunton and Ed Barnard watches it closely to take the catch.

Words used by the commentators included "unnecessary" and "needless" about that shot...

He had been playing very carefully but maybe wanted a big shot to go past 50 but it has backfired massively as he goes for 49 - he could barely watch where the ball went - and that's a big boost for the Bears.

  7. 100 runs

100 for Sam Northeastpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 3 July

    Gloucestershire 179 & 610-5 dec v Glamorgan 197 & 370-5

Sam Northeast has been stuck in the nineties since before lunch, but he finally brings up the three figures with a four of Ajeet Singh Dale.

That is the ball you want on 99 as the bowler drifts onto the pads and Northeast can send it down to fine leg for four.

That is his third century of the season. Remember he began it with 335 not out at Lord's though!

    Gloucestershire will still be wary.

  8. 100 up for Essexpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 3 July

    Surrey 262 & 278 v Essex 180 & 100-4

Dean Elgar and Paul Walter are looking to get Essex back on the straight and narrow after those two quick Surrey wickets.

The duo have seen their side to 100 runs but there is a lot of work left to do.

There are a few raindrops starting to fall but nothing too hard at present.

  9. wicket

WICKET Muyeye b Abbott 39published at 14:15 British Summer Time 3 July

    Hampshire 505-8d v Kent 343 & 257-6

Big wicket this. How has that hit leg stump?

Tawanda Muyeye shuffled across his stumps a bit and tried to glance the ball away towards fine leg but it looks to have flicked off the bottom of his pad and thumped the bottom of leg stump.

The Kent man can only stand there looking at the bails. He's trying to do the angles in his head.

The stand with Harry Finch was worth 72 in fairly short order but the lead is only 95.

Charlie Stobo joins Finch to try and inflate that, and eat up plenty of these 57 remaining overs too.

  10. 'The strongest sides don't always win the competition'published at 14:13 British Summer Time 3 July

    Surrey 262 & 278 v Essex 180 & 96-4

    Dick Davies
    BBC Essex

Surrey, by quite a bit, are the strongest side in the country but the strongest sides in all sports don't always win the competition.

It's pairing up different matches and different results and in cricket this doesn't apply in any other game really - that great imponderable, the weather.

Come September and Essex are playing in beautiful weather and get a victory while Surrey are playing somewhere which is completely washed out and the whole thing looks very different.

  11. Postpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 3 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 179-4

Lyndon James survives an over against James Anderson, playing and missing and also edging between third and fourth slips to find the rope at third.

The boundary takes the deficit under 50, but this is an uncomfortable period for the Notts man, make no mistake.

  12. Postpublished at 14:09 British Summer Time 3 July

    Somerset 284 & 132-2 v Warwickshire 412 & 281-8 dec

The partnership of Tom Kohler-Cadmore (40*) and Tom Abell (35*) is going along nicely for Somerset.

They require another 278 runs for the win as Warwickshire's Chris Woakes and Jacob Bethell continue to probe for a breakthrough.

  13. 50 runs

50 for Dean Elgarpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 3 July

    Surrey 262 & 278 v Essex 180 & 92-4

Tom Lawes is on a hat-trick... but Dean Elgar stands firm and plays a shot which almost reaches the boundary - bringing him three runs as it's stopped right on the rope.

Those runs take Elgar to a half-century.

Essex need him to keep racking up the runs if they are going to stay in the fight.

  14. Postpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 3 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 172-4

Joe Clarke is the key wicket at Southport. Lancashire know that, and he knows it too.

He is showing some solid defence to answer every question James Anderson asks of him.

Still 59 overs remaining, weather and light permitting. If Lancs can get Clarke then they will need to find just five more wickets to win this potentially crucial game against a side neighbouring them on the fringes of the relegation zone.

Given Worcestershire's shock win at Durham, this could prove a real 22-pointer if Lancs could seal victory and deny their visitors the draw.

  15. wicket

WICKET Critchley c Foakes b Lawes 0published at 13:59 British Summer Time 3 July

    Surrey 262 & 278 v Essex 180 & 86-4

Tom Lawes and Ben Foakes celebrate combining for two wickets in two ballsImage source, Rex Features

    Two in two balls!

It's the same combination and a similar delivery as Tom Lawes finds the edge of Matt Critchley's bat and Ben Foakes takes the catch behind.

Essex were motoring along nicely after lunch but they been well and truly stopped in their tracks.

Tom Lawes has made a vital intervention and has swung things very much in Surrey's favour early in the afternoon session.

  16. 'Somerset are waiting for the bad ball'published at 13:57 British Summer Time 3 July

    Somerset 284 & 127-2 v Warwickshire 412 & 281-8 dec

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

This is a little quiet passage of play.

Somerset are waiting for the bad ball.

They're not keeping the score board ticking as they might by picking up ones and twos.

  17. 50 runs

50 partnership for Kentpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 3 July

    Hampshire 505-8d v Kent 343 & 235-5

Tawanda Muyeye and Harry Finch have contributed 25 apiece and they have put on 50 runs in 86 balls together.

The Kent advantage has ballooned to 74 with 62 and a bit overs remaining in the day.

Kent fans will be desperate for these two to stick around and keep scoring at this rate.

  18. wicket

WICKET Westley c Foakes b Lawes 28published at 13:54 British Summer Time 3 July

    Surrey 262 & 278 v Essex 180 & 86-3

Tom Lawes missed out on a wicket in his last over when Dom Sibley dropped Dean Elgar - but he gets his reward this time!

Tom Westley plays at a shot which swings away from him late and Surrey wicket keeper Ben Foakes dives across first slip to take a sharp catch.

Big breakthrough and that's not all...

  19. 'Kent are like dealing with a patient'published at 13:53 British Summer Time 3 July

    Hampshire 505-8d v Kent 343 & 230-5

    Matt Cole
    BBC Radio Kent

    Kent are going ok.

It feels like we're dealing with a patient who could take a turn for the for worst here with Kent, and it could at any time, from this excellent Hampshire bowling.

  20. Postpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 3 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 171-4

Big appeal from James Anderson and the cordon for LBW against Lyndon James.

The ball stayed a touch low and James might just have got some bat on that before it hit the pads. It may even have been heading past leg stump when it made impact.

One off the over. The wait for a ninth wicket in this match goes on.

Tom Bailey will bowl from the other end with this new ball.
