How is Sam Curran (averaging about 20 in List A cricket with only two career 50s) batting at six for England? This is surely one of the weakest sides we’ve ever put out. McCullum has got an even harder job to do to make this lot competitive than he did with the red-ball side, especially if he’s only going to be allowed to pick a B squad for most series.

The lithe Roston Chase, shaven-headed, wheels away.

Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran are both content to knock the ball into the gaps. Curran has a bit of swipe at his penultimate delivery but cloths it straight.

Chase has a respectable 0-19 off six overs so far. England have gone three overs without a boundary.

Been chuckling away at all your suggestions of Halloween cricketers

England's top-order have ended up getting a little spooked here.

Alzarri Joseph returns in place of Forde, a change of ends after his first four-over spell went for 30.

He fares better here - a Curran single to mid-off is the only run in the over.

Right, I'm off to take a quick dash around the streets of Salford, see if I can hustle up some confectionery.

Here's Timothy Abraham to take you through the rest of the innings.

Chase sends down another parsimonious over, conceding two runs.

The second of those is a quick single to mid-on from Curran, just about beating a shy at the stumps.

England finally bring up their hundred, with Livingstone guiding Forde down to deep third for a single.

Curran picks up his first boundary from the following delivery, driving confidently through the covers.

Regardless, WinViz indicates England are in a spot of bother.

Arjun Singh: I don’t think I’ve ever felt this despondent watching England play white-ball cricket: slow, turgid, indecisive and… boring! West Indies rely on English money to boost their game - no one’s going to be watching this later if they keep serving up wickets like this.

If England are going to set even a par score of 260, this partnership between their two most experienced batters is going to have to go long.

Roston Chase is doing an excellent job of holding up an end - he's conceded 13 runs from his first four overs.

A trio of singles from this one - Chase is yet to concede a boundary.

England are really feeling the lack of a batter who can anchor the innings. If anything was going to remind the selectors of Joe Root’s value in ODIs, it would be a batting display like this. The inexperience and T20 mentality is very much showing in this line-up.

I don't know what it says about the pitch, but they've all been out pretty much the same way!

England enter their all-rounders as Sam Curran arrives at six - a little high?

He watches an off-side wide go by, then pushes the final ball of the over to mid-off.

A poor shot from Bethell who had been playing well and judged the conditions well up to that point. The ball may just have stuck in the pitch a bit but having just lost Cox, that was the last thing England needed.

Jacob Bethell has played two beautiful pull shots but is through it too early and it's the simplest of catches for Brandon King. Another player caught in and around the ring. England are in some bother.

That was a poor bit of judgement from Jordan Cox, caught out by the change in strike, and a change of pace. The first five deliveries in the over from Forde were all to Bethell, and all over 120kph - the wicket ball to Cox dropped to 114kph, and held a touch in the surface.

Liam Livingstone was dropped two months ago and now he's captain of the one-day side so that's where England are at. They don't know their combinations, they don't know exactly where they are. However there are opportunities.

    Time for the captain, then.

Liam Livingstone, England's latest skipper, comes to the crease at five with his inexperienced side in a bit of trouble.

He and Bethell can only take three runs from Chase's third over.
