With the lead at 252 and a little bit of overcast conditions, Ben Stokes would want India to bat at least four and a half sessions if not five sessions.

For me as a cricket fan more than anything else, the smile on Joe Root's face hasn't changed since day one and that shows what a wonderful person he is, the way he speaks and being understated. If Sachin's record is to be broken, honest to God, there is no one better than Joe Root.

It was a monumental day in Joe Root's career yesterday. He will always remember going past those three players of such high regard. There is no caveat to Joe Root. He is at the same level if not better and if he breaks Sachin Tendulkar's record, it will be the most extraordinary thing to do.

Even in the modern era, reassuring to hear that dressing room high jinks are still a thing.

The story of how Joe Root got some cramps yesterday and was unable to do any media duties is because his sliders were super-glued in the dressing room.

As he went to wear them, his hamstring started cramping and when he started to move his leg the other way, another part of his body started to cramp.

You might wonder why we didn't hear from Joe Root yesterday after his brilliant hundred. Well, it seems we have an unusual explanation.

With a couple of boundaries, Ben Stokes moves on to 118 not out. Brydon Carse is unbeaten on 19.

    Time for a drink.

This seems very odd from England. We should be looking to cart the ball all over the ground. Not nudging a few singles here and there with the odd boundary. We aren’t scoring quick enough to make it worthwhile. Declare now.

I would be quite fearful for India today because of this pitch which has enough demons in it and I could see a spell from Jofra Archer or Brydon Carse that could trouble them.

  15. Eng 602-8published at 148 overs

Plenty of time left in this game which explains why Ben Stokes and Brydon Carse are in no particular rush against Mohammed Siraj.

Carse waits until the final ball of the over before he opens the face to the India quick and guides it between first and third for four.

England pass 600. Siraj does not look happy.

Washington Sundar has bowled with 2.63º of drift in this series. This is the second-highest any spinner has found in a series in England since ball tracking records began (2007).

Prabath Jayasuriya with 2.69º in 2024 is the only other spinner to create more drift in a series in England.

You can tell from the celebrations by Ben Stokes that this means a huge amount. An absolute trojan of a cricketer, he's incredible but it has been a while since he got a hundred. He has had to work and work and he's found a flow here. Things are coming together nicely for England.

There was a lengthy look to the sky there as Ben Stokes made a gesture in memory of his dad.

Having been made to wait a little longer than expected, there's a stream of fans in the party stand now heading to the bars after celebrating the milestone.

If Stokes is fit and in this form we can win The Ashes. It's always a big if though.
