Given lbw! Ollie Pope is struggling here. This looked out as he missed a sweep.

Just as a bit of housekeeping. Jordan Cox will leave Pakistan tonight, head home then join the white-ball squad for the tour of West Indies. Rehan Ahmed will go straight to the Caribbean after this Test.

England will then name their squad for the tour of New Zealand once this Test is over. Ahmed won't be in it, but there will be some cover for father-to-be Jamie Smith.

Can I now go back to my hot take? Salt and vinegar crisps are massively overrated.

There's plenty going on in this over with Ben Duckett clubbing one for four over Noman Ali's head but almost skimming a catch to mid-off. Ollie Pope edged short of slip too. The fact it fell short tells you how slow this pitch is.

I wonder what Derek Pringle makes of all this.

  6. dropped catch

Duckett dropped on 29published at 17 overs

We're back under way but Sajid Khan will be wishing we were not. Ben Duckett drills the ball back at him and he instinctively sticks out a left hand low by his boot. The ball crashes into the fleshy bit near his thumb - doctors will be able to tell me what that is called - and he's immediately waving to the dressing room.

If you're being harsh it's a dropped catch.

It's been an intriguing first morning of this series-deciding third Test so far.

Perhaps the most crucial moment came when England skipper Ben Stokes called correctly at the toss and chose to bat.

Why so important? Well, that was shown by the first ball of the match that Sajid Khan got to turn sharply to Zak Crawley.

Pakistan did everything they could to make sure there was turn in this pitch and the evidence so far is that has worked - and batting will only get tougher as the match wears on.

Not every ball has spun but Sajid and Noman Ali have found more than enough assistance with the odd one going big.

It's been slow turn for the most part, though, and Crawley and Ben Duckett put on 56 for the first wicket in good time.

Noman broke that stand when Crawley's drive skewed off the edge to point but that's Pakistan's only success so far.

Ollie Pope has joined Duckett in the middle for England.

  8. drinks break

    Drinks - Eng 57-1published at 16 overs

Another thing has is not news is that Ollie Pope can be a skittish starter. He pokes at the final ball of Noman Ali's over a little more than you'd like but he's actually pretty calm here, going back to cut but twice picking out the fielder.

Drinks are coming onto the field at the end of an even first hour.

  9. How's stat?!published at 06:57 British Summer Time

    Soham Sarkhel

Average deviation of 3.41 degrees in the first 10 overs today - that is the second-most in the first 10 overs of the first innings of a Test match (in the ball-tracking era). Even though this pitch has offered turn, the bounce has been very consistent (the most consistent for any Rawalpindi track at this stage of a Test).

  10. Eng 56-1published at 15 overs

Ollie Pope could do with a few runs. We seem to say that a lot.

He spends his first over at the non-striker's end and sees Sajid Khan turn another past Ben Duckett's edge.

You almost felt like that was going to happen.

Zak Crawley had been a little bit pokey out there but well bowled from Noman Ali.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14 overs

    Crawley c Ayub b Noman 29 (Eng 56-1)

Zak Crawley gives it away! He had just played one bad shot and another proves to be his downfall as Noman Ali gets him for the third innings in a row.

It's good bowling from Noman - a little loopier, which has tempted Crawley into another drive.

He doesn't quite get his weight through the shot and it goes in the air to a fielder lurking at backward point.

Obviously, passive crisp flavours are the salt-leaning ones: ready salted, salt & vinegar, sea salt...

  14. Eng 54-0published at 13 overs

    Crawley 28, Duckett 23

Zak Crawley grins after playing a truly horrific swipe to a ball outside off stump by off-spinner Sajid Khan. It really was bad and Crawley knows it.

He also manages to crack a sweep into short leg during the over. That stings.

RE the Pringles - I’ve gone for a more regulation slice of toast and a coffee but each to their own. England away games do strange things to the taste buds and body clock…

  16. Eng 50-0published at 12 overs

    Crawley 27, Duckett 20

Zak Crawley sweeps for four again.

I'm still wondering what counts as a 'passive' crisp flavour.

There was quite a lot of turn on that from Noman Ali, they're finding the spin.

Spinning too much! On day one of a Test. It would have missed leg stump.

Ben Duckett survives and Pakistan lose a review.

  19. Postpublished at 06:41 British Summer Time

This looks a lot more out than I first thought.

I'd be worried if I was Ben Duckett...

  20. Pakistan reviewpublished at 06:41 British Summer Time

We'll have to come back to that. Pakistan are reviewing an lbw shout against Ben Duckett.
