That's Shubman Gill at his best. A straight drive, just effortless.

'Gill at his best' - Indian captain drives Woakes down the ground for four

Beautiful shot from Shubman Gill, nailing a textbook drive down the ground off Chris Woakes.

That's four all the way - and takes him past 600 runs in the series.

I think Jofra Archer has just been given the nod from Ben Stokes. That may be him done for the day.

He's toweling himself down at fine leg. A special day.

  4. Ind 103-2published at 31 overs

Jofra Archer runs in for his 10th over - his first spell was five overs, and this one is now the same length, albeit we're cheating a bit because that includes a change of ends.

Still, this may be his last for a while - and Shubman Gill possibly ends the spell by pulling aerially out to Ben Duckett at backward square for a single.

  5. Ind 101-2published at 30 overs

KL Rahul advances a touch and sends Chris Woakes' first ball through point for two.

    That brings up India's hundred.

  6. Ind 98-2published at 29 overs

Jofra Archer gets us back underway with a maiden to Shubman Gill.

The England seamer sends down a sharp bouncer and Gill, springing on his toes, sensibly gets out of the way.

    Thanks Elizabeth.

It's still very warm out there, that's much needed hydration for the 13 players out on the field.

    Drinks - Ind 98-2published at 28 overs

    Rahul 34, Gill 11

Shubman Gill picks up his first boundary of the day, posting the ball through the vacant third slip, and also grabs a single. He's into double figures (11).

England are persisting with their policy of having Jamie Smith stand up to Gill and stay back for KL Rahul.

That's drinks, so it's time for Mike Peter to return.

  9. Ind 93-2published at 27 overs

Jofra Archer bowls another three deliveries to Shubman Gill, all in the 83-86mph region. Gill picks up three runs.

KL Rahul dots out the remainder of the over.

Archer has bowled eight overs, taking 1-20. How much more of him will we see today?

Jofra Archer from the Nursery End for the first time. This is the end from which he bowled the World Cup super over.

  11. Ind 90-2published at 26 overs

    Rahul 34, Gill 3

After two balls, a helmet is brought out for Jamie Smith so he can stand up to the stumps. Shubman Gill gets off strike and Smith retreats.

KL Rahul clips the penultimate ball of the over down the slope for four. Shoaib Bashir loses his cap as he puts in an unsuccessful chase.

That was an exhibition of how to play the forward defence. Rock solid from Shubman Gill. Quality.

  13. Ind 80-2published at 25 overs

    A maiden for Ben Stokes.

Shubman Gill is content to block.

Chris Woakes was whirling his arms around and doing some stretches in the outfield throughout the over and he's coming back into the attack.

Here's a look at that record-breaking Joe Root catch which took him clear of Rahul Dravid as the player with the most catches by a non-wicketkeeper in Test cricket.

Having taken the white sleeve on his bowling arm off in his previous over, Jofra Archer has put it back on.

Shubman Gill leaves the first two deliveries - one full, one short - alone before blocking numbers three and four.

He doesn't really connect as he pulls the fifth, but collects a single.

  16. Ind 79-2published at 23 overs

Shubman Gill takes a single and KL Rahul bags a boundary.

Rahul plays out three dot balls to close out the over. Here comes Archer vs Gill.

Stokes makes things happen when batters are set. Karun Nair was the 45th batter Stokes has dismissed when they are on a score of 25-49. This is the fourth most of any England seamer this century. He sits just below the very fine company of Broad, Anderson and Flintoff

I once read that despite his all round excellence Joe Root never managed to win his annual school sportsperson of the year award. He kept getting pipped by a girl called Jessica Ennis - also a decent all-rounder.

Jofra Archer returns to the attack, presumably to give him a go at Shubman Gill.

Alas, KL Rahul has other plans, either blocking or swaying out of the way as Archer gets the ball to jump around. A maiden.

You get the feeling that this could be a defining 20 minutes in the innings because if England can get the wicket of Shubman Gill that will really put the cat among the pigeons.
