'What a moment!' - Archer dismisses Jaiswal on his third ball back

  1. Ind 53-1published at 16 overs

After exchanging singles with KL Rahul, Karun Nair drives square for four. Lovely.

The end of the over isn't quite so comfortable for India's number three as Brydon Carse beats his inside edge. Sharp intakes of breath from England's fielders.

Archer may be back but Bumrah’s Test bowling average is now 19.40 which is just ridiculous!

  3. Ind 47-1published at 15 overs

Well, that's made sure we're all wide awake after tea.

After successfully overturning a caught behind dismissal, Karun Nair drives the penultimate ball of the over through mid-off. Ollie Pope puts in a long chase and India pick up three to get the scoreboard moving.

Brydon Carse will bowl from the other end.

I think Ben Stokes and all the England boys thought he hit it. It wasn't a half-hearted appeal, they genuinely thought he hit it.

    That's what DRS is for.

No bat, just trousers. Karun Nair didn't even blink.

    Carry on.

It's caught behind! Karun Nair's immediately reviewing it but Ben Stokes went up and everyone around him appealed.

  7. India reviewpublished at 14.2 overs

Is that the ideal start to the session for England? The umpire has given Karun Nair out caught behind.

The India batter signalled for the review in a flash.

The players are heading back out for the evening session.

India are 44-1 after 14 overs, with KL Rahul on 13 (34) and Karun Nair on 18 (42).

It looks like Matt's Ben Stokes bowling prediction is correct.

Ben Stokes has emerged from the dressing room early to get loose. It looks like a spell is looming.

It's worth noting that India are ticking along nicely...maybe too nicely.

I'm not sure I'd want Archer and Wood in tandem in the Ashes. Firstly, because we'd want to rotate them and secondly, because if they both went down in the same game it would be a disaster! One of the two with Atkinson, Carse and Stokes would be an attack worthy of an Ashes tour. Tongue will probably get a couple of games too.

However, Bumrah's thunder has been well and truly stolen by Jofra Archer, who picked up a wicket with just his third ball back on the Test stage.

He had Yashasvi Jaiswal caught in the slips by Harry Brook

If you cast your mind back to the start of the afternoon session, it was actually England who were batting.

The hosts resumed on 353-7 but were bowled out for 387, with Mohammed Siraj striking twice and Jasprit Bumrah removing Jofra Archer to finish with impressive figures of 5-74 from his 27 overs.

Right, that was a fun session, England will be hoping they can break through into India's middle-order after tea.

It's a bit slow, this pitch. It looks like you have to make the most of that new ball. India bowled well with it then England got themselves back into the game.

You have to get stuck in when fielding here.

  17. Tea - Ind 44-1published at 14 overs

Ooooh, Chris Woakes ends the session by sending the ball past the edge of KL Rahul's bat.

India do get two runs off the over - but they only scored seven runs, all singles, in the last six overs. Indeed, overs one (13 runs) and eight (10) account for over half their runs in this innings thus far.

Meanwhile Ben Stokes set up a rather funky field in that over, with an angled line of three short mid-offs/mid-wickets facing the trio of slips.

Successive maidens now as Brydon Carse bowls six dots to Karun Nair.

The last ball strikes Nair on the glove and the physio comes on for a look, so we'll have a delay with time for one more over before tea.
