Somerset fans aren't crying (re: 14:27). Cricket fans are just upset that a side is more interested in winning than giving their kids a chance. Especially when facing a side almost entirely of their own graduates, it makes Surrey look like the cartoon villain. Look at football. It's not just their rivals looking at Chelsea with disgust, is it?

    Sussex v Glamorgan 163-7

James Harris has withstood 48 balls for his 11. It has rarely been pretty.

He and Dan Douthwaite (32) and not looking to do much more than occupy the crease at the moment.

Sussex have bowled incredibly tightly all day and the fact Glamorgan have managed to maintain the run rate above three has been impressive.

  3. wicket

WICKET Holden c Bracey b Dale 77published at 14:45 British Summer Time 9 September

    Middlesex 207-5 v Gloucs

Huge breakthrough. Gloucestershire are through the top five.

Ajeet Singh-Dale has his second wicket, drawing Max Holden forward - and the Middlesex number three edges behind.

It was a simple catch for the keeper James Bracey, taken just below waist height.

Josh de Caires will face the next ball.

Skipper Tom Westley holding this Essex innings together - a real captain's knock, as the saying goes.

Paul Walter (21no off 21 balls) also looks in good touch so this is a key partnership for the hosts - and a big one for the visitors to break.

He's getting resolute defence from Matty Hurst at the other end, who finally gets off the mark after 27 balls, driving an over-pitched ball through cover for four runs.

    Middlesex 201-4 v Gloucs

The hosts reach 200 in 46.1 overs in style as Jack Davies skips back and across to flay left arm spinner Zafar gohar through cover for four.

    A bit loose.

The partnership is worth 45 and counting.

  8. wicket

WICKET: Bairstow c Patel b Scriven 18published at 14:39 British Summer Time 9 September

    Leics 98 v Yorks 56-4

Jonny Bairstow was mounting a counterattack at Grace Road.

He slapped Tom Scriven twice through the covers before a lucky inside edge flew past leg stump for four more.

A fourth boundary off Scriven followed, flicked through square leg, but Scriven has the last laugh.

Bairstow has a wild swipe aiming over mid-on and edges to first slip. An ugly end.

This is not an easy pitch the bat on, but James Vince has made it look like a motorway.

And then two balls later, Vince punches the ball with the timing of a stand-up comedian through the covers. That was perfect.

    Kent v Hampshire 77-2

The umpires have come together and the dreaded light meter has come out.

And the players have been sent off, however the two umpires are remaining in the middle.

A real shame as James Vince was looking in a world of his own. He has 30 off 28 balls.

  17. wicket

But Tom Abell has now fallen a run shy of his half-century.

He goes back to cut a ball from Shakib Al Hasan that's much too full and skuttles through him into middle and off.

Abell ends up on his backside.

    The day even again.
