Thanks for your company on an absorbing final day of this round of fixtures.

The pendulum swung one way and another but eventually Middlesex staved off the threat of defeat at Derby to emerge with a share of the spoils.

It was the only drawn match in the round after Division One victories for leaders Notts, now closest challengers Surrey and Durham over the weekend, while Leicestershire lead the way in Division Two after winning the nerviest game of the round at Bristol.

Enjoy what's left of a sunny Monday evening and we'll see you again on Friday morning ready to do it all over again.

  4. 'Middlesex survive, but a lot of positives for Derbyshire'published at 17:27 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 307-7 f/o

    Dave Fletcher
    BBC Radio Derby Sport

It's all over. Middlesex survive, as we always thought they would...

Terrific innings from Zafar Gohar, and Ryan Higgins, earlier on there were were good innings from Max Holden and Stephen Eskinazi before the madness started.

Unfortunately from a Derbyshire perspective they couldn't force 10 wickets to give themselves an opportunity of winning the game.

Derbyshire move up to second in the table and will take a lot of positives from this game.

  5. DERBYSHIRE AND MIDDLESEX SHAKE HANDS ON A DRAWpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 307-7 f/o

Over bowled, the 100th and that's it.

Middlesex will be mighty relieved after missing the follow on total by a couple of hits, then losing Nathan Fernandes to the first ball of the second innings on Sunday.

Calm appeared to have been restored by Max Holden (94) and Stephen Eskinazi (61) before both fell in quick succession just before lunch, Holden bowled missing a sweep and Eskinazi run out aborting a third run.

Derbyshire still had hope when Zak Chappell (five wickets in the match) had Jack Davies caught behind for seven at which point Middlesex were only 63 ahead.

But Ryan Higgins took the visitors to the brink of safety, batting nearly three hours for his 56 and by the time he was out, a draw was by far the most likely result.

Middlesex remain in mid-table and return to Lord's on Friday, hoping to get their own back against Kent, who defeated them at Canterbury.

Derbyshire remain second and travel to Cardiff to face Glamorgan on the same date.

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 307-7 f/o

16 overs left. One more before the probable handshake?

Alex Thomson will bowl and Blake Cullen blocks into the off side.

Thomson tosses the ball up but Cullen isn't taking the bait.

    Maiden over.

  7. 'Gohar can bat'published at 17:19 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 307-7 f/o

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London commentator

A fine 50 it is. It's very much secured the draw for the visitors.

Seven fours and two sixes - he can bat.

You'd imagine we're close to Wayne Madsen saying 'it's time to put the feet up'...

Jack Morley bowls to Zafar Gohar on 46.

Zafar defends on the front foot and he hasn't really taken any risks since he was dropped on 44.

Oh, hello! He smashes a friendly full bull over long on for six and he has his first 50 of the season.

105 balls, seven fours and two sixes.

  9. Postpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 301-7 f/o

Alex Thomson from the City End with four close catchers.

Blake Cullen turns the third ball to square leg but opts against what would be a very tight single.

    Another maiden. 17 overs left.

  10. '1,089 runs for 27'published at 17:14 British Summer Time 28 April

  12. Postpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 301-7 f/o

143 ahead and 20 overs left. Surely the draw is on now?

Zafar Gohar is on 45 and goes forward to defend against off spin bowler Alex Thomson.

He cuts the third ball to backward point for one.

Blake Cullen blocks out the over.

  13. Postpublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 300-7 f/o

    300 up in 95 overs.

  14. Postpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 295-7 f/o

Blake Cullen is nearly foxed by a grubber and defends from the crease to see out the over, surviving an lbw shout in the process.

Got a bit of bat on that and the ball lands safely.

Over bowled by Alex Thomson and we're back with Jack Morley.

  15. 'That's irresponsible, for me'published at 17:03 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 295-7 f/o

    Dave Fletcher
    BBC Radio Derby Sport

The peril has gone, but that just seems a little irresponsible to me, but I'm not a professional cricketer.

It's remarkable. Just when you think this game is dead and buried you get a little hint something might still be there.

WICKETpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 28 April

    Higgins c Morley b Thomson 56 (Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 295-7 f/o)

Now then! Is there a twist in the tale?

Ryan Higgins miscues a sweep off Alex Thomson and is caught in the deep on the leg side by Jack Morley.

    Blake Cullen in next.

  17. 'That was the chance'published at 16:59 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 295-6 f/o

    Dave Fletcher
    BBC Radio Derby Sport

Zak Chappell apologises. It was as straightforward a catch as you're likely to see at mid-on. That will pretty much be that. Gohar has been dropped on 44.

With it goes any chance Derbyshire have of winning this game.

    The game has gone.

  18. dropped catch

Zafar dropped on 44published at 16:58 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 295-6 f/o

Lead up to 138 and now Zafar Gohar is dropped by Zak Chappell!

A smash down the ground and Chappell puts it down at mid on.

  19. 6 runs

Zafar hits it farpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 295-6 f/o

Jack Morley is coming back on to try and stem the tide which is now very much flowing towards a draw.

Single to Ryan Higgins, going back to tap leg side. He's on 56.

This has been a crucial partnership with Zafar Gohar, which began with a slender lead of 63.

Zafar Gohar moves forward and to 44 with a slog sweep over long on for six!

  20. Postpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 28 April

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 288-6 f/o

Zafar Gohar works Zak Chappell off his hip to backward square for one to move on to 38.

Ryan Higgins tries to punch a short ball away off side but doesn't clear the field.

Two runs off the fifth ball though, driving to cover on the back foot.

He keeps the strike with a deflection to leg from the crease for one.
