    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 154-1 f/o

Jack Morley continues from the Racecourse End.

A Max Holden reverse sweep thuds the ball into the ground and there's a half appeal for a catch. But it is a bump ball.

The fourth ball is turned through short leg, past leg slip for two.

Single to mid on. Three behind.

Zak Chappell is just making the odd thing happen here.

They're going to bring in a second slip, but it maybe a bit late for that.

Middlesex are going to have a lead of some description at lunch.

    This is an excitement-free zone...

  3. Postpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 151-1 f/o

Max Holden pushes Zak Chappell defensively to mid on.

But he's stuck in the crease next ball with a swish and an edge past a diving first slip for four!

Not quite a chance as slip didn't get a hand to it but frustrating for the hosts even so.

Max Holden nearly chops one on but the ball bounces past leg stump.

Second slip in now. Holden drives a wider ball off a thick outside edge to backward point for four. Played a long way from the body.

Another wide ball misses the bat, the keeper and disappears for a wide.

Middlesex pass 150 in the 46th over and are surely going to be ahead by lunchtime.

Six behind. 12 runs off that over.

  4. Postpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 141-1 f/o

Slow left arm bowler Jack Morley is back into the attack, after a chat with his captain Wayne Madsen.

He has a slip and a short leg.

Stephen Eskinazi pushes carefully down the track. Maiden over.

  5. Postpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 141-1 f/o

Middlesex are just 20 behind now.

They only really offered one chance all morning on a slow surface where every chance needs to be taken.

It was a tough one though, via a full-blooded sweep from the bat of Max Holden to short mid wicket.

Width outside off from Zak Chappell and Max Holden drives through cover for four runs. Half volley.

An extraordinary Division One match between Worcestershire and Durham at New Road finished in the murk of the second evening.

Debutant Jake Ball picked up 5-45 as the hosts were ousted for 162 after being put in by Durham on the opening morning, though it actually turned out to be enough for a first-innings lead of 26 on a slow pitch which offered the bowlers plenty of assistance throughout.

Durham were whipped-out for 136 in reply before 1pm on day two but then blitzed the Pears inside 24 overs after lunch for a total of just 81 with debutant Codi Yusuf taking 4-26 and Ben Raine collecting 6-36 in the match.

Ben McKinney's gritty 34 paced Durham towards their victory target of 108, though it was not without alarm, with Ollie Robinson (22*) and Graham Clark (20*) seeing them over the line in the end for a margin of victory which looked far more comfortable than it felt.

Durham collected their first win of the campaign and took 19 points while Worcestershire earned three and remain winless and bottom of the division after three straight losses and back-to-back defeats having earned a first innings advantage.

Worcestershire coach Alan Richardson said: "We didn't handle the third innings of the game very well at all. If you have a session like that you are not going to win many games of cricket. It's incredibly disappointing to go from a position where we were in a position of strength and ahead of the game and then to lose so quickly.

"It is disappointing to have lost two games after taking a first innings lead but it would be more of a concern if we were never in the games. We are putting ourselves into strong positions, it's just a question of working out how to make sure we drive those positions home."

Durham captain Alex Lees said: "We are delighted with the win. The obvious talking point is the wicket, to have 34 wickets in just over 180 overs is not what everyone had on their radar at the start of the week, so we are delighted to be on the right side of it.

"It was hard for the batters. Some of those balls were literally unplayable. It is hard to take for whoever loses a game like this so I'm just glad we came out on the right side and hopefully it will kick-start our season."

  7. Postpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 137-1 f/o

A deep point comes in for Alex Thomson as Derbyshire go a bit more on the defensive.

We still have and a slip and a short leg.

Single to Max Holden to mid off, opening the bat face at the last moment.

Stephen Eskinazi sees out the over.

  8. Postpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 136-1 f/o

Middlesex will be breathing a little more easily than they might have been an hour and a half ago, still with nine wickets in hand after the loss of Nathan Fernandes on Sunday.

Zak Chappell will bowl his first spell of the day, and perhaps he will hold the key as he did in the first innings.

He's on a length just outside off from round the wicket straight away and Max Holden defends into the off side.

The second ball keeps low, beating batter and keeper for a bye.

Blair Tickner is doing some stretches at mid off. Might he come back for another spell before lunch?

  9. 'The pitch isn't going to deteriorate enough'published at 12:28 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 135-1

    Dave Fletcher
    BBC Radio Derby Sport

We could do with something happening here.

The over rate is plus four which means they can do what they want. The over rate shouldn't be on the scoreboard - they should only find out after play. This over rate nonsense needs to be addressed.

The pitch is not going to produce a result, it's not going to deteriorate enough to produce a result.

The Derbyshire bowlers are having to bowl again on a pitch which isn't giving them any help.

  10. Postpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 135-1

Stephen Eskinazi works Alex Thomson to leg but there's no run this time.

He switches to blocking down the ground and then pushes the last ball to mid on.

    Maiden over.

  11. Postpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 135-1

David Lloyd continues from the City End and Max Holden defends the off spinner into the on side.

He gets an off drive through off the second ball for two and a cut to point has hit Blair Tickner.

He's crouched face down into the ground in clear discomfort.

He's going to carry on though.

The sixth ball is short and heaved over mid wicket by Holden for four.

  12. 'These batters are doing a brilliant job'published at 12:21 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 127-1

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London commentator

Max Holden and Stephen Eskinazi are doing a brilliant job - we probably haven't said it enough.

Two brilliant T20 players who ply their trade all over the world but they're doing a fantastic job here in first-class cricket.

  13. Postpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 127-1

    Alex Thomson has switched ends.

Stephen Eskinazi tries to work the ball away leg side but is stopped at short leg.

    Maiden over.

  14. 'Middlesex would be furious to lose it from here'published at 12:16 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 127-1

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London commentator

I think coming into today Middlesex would have been very disappointed to lose this game, a hybrid pitch, 472 plays 318, eight short of the follow on.

I'd suggest from this position they'd be almost furious to lose the game from here, but that doesn't mean that they won't.

  15. Postpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 127-1

Another pause as David Lloyd removes his shin pads and gets ready to bowl some off spin.

The second ball is a full toss and tapped to mid on by Max Holden for a single.

Stephen Eskinazi is forward to block and then pushes the last ball through cover for one.

The gap is down to 30.

  16. Postpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 125-1

Max Holden goes back to left arm spinner Jack Morley, working the ball behind square for two.

The third ball balloons off the pad and short leg and leg slip move to catch it in tandem. It was pad only though.

Holden turns one just in front of leg slip for one.

There's still something there for the spinners.

  17. Surrey return to winning ways as Jordan Clark shinespublished at 12:08 British Summer Time

    Surrey 367 & 36-2 v Somerset 283 & 119

Jordan Clark celebratesImage source, Rex Features

Surrey are probably on the golf course today after celebrating an epic win with a day to spare at the Oval, which lifted the county champions from seventh to second in this round of matches.

Their resurgence is due in no small part to the bowling of Jordan Clark on a surface offering some movement and occasional uneven bounce.

He took eight wickets in a match where several players made significant scores without going on to reach a century and was instrumental in engineering a dramatic Somerset collapse, taking three out of five wickets that fell in rapid succession for eight runs after lunch.

He was full of praise for his team mate and keeper Ben Foakes, who took an absolutely stunning one-handed catch at full stretch to remove Migael Pretorius, the mainstay of the Somerset resistance today for 54.

Foakes also managed a fantastic one-handed grab to dismiss Archie Vaughan down the leg side earlier in the innings.

Jordan Clark told BBC Radio London's Mark Church:

"It just happens like that sometimes. You know at the Oval, if you're there and thereabouts, it can happen quick. I feel like it was a really good surface to bowl on. But if you miss, I feel like runs were there to have."

    On Ben Foakes:

"Yeah, absolutely outstanding. In fact, today was the only time I've heard Foakesy say that was actually a really good catch. Normally it's just like breakfast for him and it's something he expects all the time."

  18. Postpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 122-1

Derbyshire seem to be in no hurry to get their overs in.

    Another lengthy pause.

Alex Thomson is into his 12th over of the innings and his first ball is cut to point by Max Holden for one.

The third ball is very close to the bat and pad of Stephen Eskinazi who tries to glance to leg and that's four leg byes.

Two to Eskinazi, working the ball to long leg, and he'll get two more with a drive into the off side.

  19. 'Derbyshire shouldn't slow things down'published at 12:07 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 113-1

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London commentator

I think they'll lose two or three wickets at some point, but once that door opens slightly, it'll be a question of whether Middlesex can just calm themselves down and go again.

Derbyshire are trying to slow things down and disrupt Middlesex but I don't think it's helping them. They should just try and bowl as many overs as they can.

  20. Postpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time

    Derbyshire 472 v Middlesex 315 & 113-1

    Maiden over from Alex Thomson.

Long pause between overs. Jack Morley will continue.

Max Holden works the ball past leg slip for one.

The fifth ball is short and hammered square for four by Stephen Eskinazi.

Derbyshire fading a little here after creating a couple of missed chances this morning.
