  1. Postpublished at 47.4 overs

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 184-0

A leading edge by Paul Walter is just out of reach of the grasping right hand of Nathan Smith as the Essex opener moves to 114 not out.

He hasn't looked quite as secure of late but collects four more to mid-wicket without doing much more than lean on the ball. Superb timing.

  2. Essex 'shifting into a good position'published at 18:19 British Summer Time 24 May

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 175-0

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Fair play to Elgar and Walter, they've played really well and complement each other perfectly.

Essex are shifting themselves into a good position here.

All I would say is with the conditions and the lights on, not as much as happened as you would have expected.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:18 British Summer Time 24 May

    Albert b Carson 1 (Hants 154 & 104-6 v Sussex 297)

Not a great shot but Jack Carson has another in the third last over of the day.

Toby Albert is down on one knee attempting to sweep Carson to deep square leg, misses it completely and is bowled around his legs.

Hants still trail by 39 and Carson now has 2-3.

  4. Postpublished at 44.5 overs

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 174-0

How did that miss the stumps?

Jamie Overton has his hands on his head and no wonder as Dean Elgar is late on the shot and an inside edge just eludes the leg stump.

  5. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 24 May

    Worcestershire 181 v Warwickshire 227 & 53-1

Bad light stopped play an hour ago and, unsurprisingly, play has been abandoned for the rest of the day at a gloomy New Road.

After Worcestershire had their day yesterday, it was Warwickshire's turn today to shine.

Chris Woakes (3-34) and Chris Rushworth (4-37) were close to unplayable as they took seven of the 10 wickets to fall, forcing the Pears to slide from 63-0 to 181 all out.

It gave them a handy lead of 46, which they've grown to 99 for just the loss of skipper Alex Davies.

With plenty more batting to come, the Bears can really ram home their advantage on day three.

This is a pitch on which no batter will ever feel fully 'in' so the Pears will not lose hope.

  6. 'Very decent' from Walterpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 24 May

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 162-0 (lead by 100)

    David Brett
    BBC Essex

At a time when Essex were under pressure, Walter and Elger together have put on 162 without loss.

That's a very decent knock by Walter.

  7. Latest from Cardiffpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 24 May

    Glamorgan 383 v Middlesex 121-7

Middlesex really aren't helping themselves here with some very loose shots. Jack Davies pulls a ball from Zain ul-Hassan but doesn't keep on top of it and Thomas Bevan is there for the catch.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 24 May

    Davey b Killeen 15 (Durham 277 & 159 v Somerset 172 & 40-1)

    Off stump evicted.

That's come out of nowhere. Mitchell Killeen has ripped one through Josh Davey and sent his off stump into a different postcode.

Davey can't quite get his head round what happened there it seems.

    Just too quick.

Killeen has six in the match.

Somerset need 225 more to win.

  9. 100 runs

for Paul Walterpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 24 May

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 162-0

    Paul WalterImage source, Rex Features

    There it is.

Having failed to beat the field with a full blooded pull, Paul Walter is called through by partner Dean Elgar from an inside edge as he reaches his second red-ball hundred of the season - and fourth of his career - from 131 balls.

It's been a great innings for his side, featuring 16 fours - althopugh there was an anxious moment in Jordan Clark's last over when he clipped aerially to mid-wicket and Dan Worrall, diving forward, couldn't quite scoop up the catch.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 24 May

    Brown b Carson 17 (Hants 154 & 90-5 v Sussex 297)

Another change of bowling and another wicket.

Bit of confusion as to whether that was a Paul Farbrace switch or a John Simpson choice with the coach exercised enough to walk around the boundary to get a message out there.

Either way Jack Carson replacing James Coles has done the trick with big turn and Ben Brown unable to get anything in the way as it snakes through.

  11. 50 runs

for Dean Elgarpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 24 May

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 161-0

Dean Elgar has taken some time to 'get into the groove' - as Madonna might say - since his late arrival from South Africa this season.

But the former South Africa Test player reaches his first 50 from 127 by tucking Jamie Overton away for a single to square leg.

  12. Latest from Leicesterpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 24 May

    Leics 436-8 v Lancs 206

A couple of wickets to report from Grace Road as Lancs make some headway despite remaining very much behind the eight ball against Leicestershire.

The visitors have removed the set pair Ian Holland, for 50, and Logan van Beek, for 15, with George Balderson and Tom Bailey taking the wickets.

  13. 150 up for Essexpublished at 17:59 British Summer Time 24 May

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 152-0

Paul Walter on drives Sam Curran for four as Essex move past 150 and extend their lead to 90. He has looked far more comfortable than partner Dean Elgar, but Essex won't care about any of that as long as they are both still out there.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 24 May

    Bancroft c McManus b Conway 60 (Northants 469 v Glos 152-4)

Another one goes - it's Cameron Bancroft.

The Glos skipper will be livid his touched that down the leg side.

It's a nothing ball from Harry Conway and an equally indifferent shot from Bancroft as Lewis McManus moves like a fast crab to take the catch.

    A strangle.

    Northants go bang, bang.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hammond lbw b Harrison 51 (Northants 469 v Glos 152-3)

Miles Hammond goes back to a round armer from leggie Calvin Harrison and is hit on the pads.

The umpire gives it out as Harrison, on his knees, does a double fist pump.

The only question was did that hit Hammond outside the line of off stump?

    It's very close. Maybe that's umpire's call.

Hammond's on his way for an excellent 51.

  16. Latest from Derbypublished at 39 overs

    Derbys 587-5 dec v Kent 170-2

Since we last brought you news from the County Ground, Kent have lost skipper Daniel Bell-Drummond.

he played a rather limp shot at a ball from Anuj Dal and keeper Brooke Guest took a good diving catch to dismiss him for 61.

Tawanda Muyeye is now out there with Ben Compton, who is 83 not out.

  17. Latest from Cardiffpublished at 39.3 overs

    Glamorgan 383 v Middlesex 113-6

Ben Geddes looks to heavens as if to say 'why did I do that?'

A loose drive off James Harris is taken in front of his face by Kiran Carlson at third slip and Middlesex batter is on his way for 18.

  18. Postpublished at 38.1 overs

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 145-0

It's time for Jamie Overton's first bowl of the second innings.

Can he produce the breakthrough that Surrey need?

Paul Walter pulls his first ball for a single, scattering a modest flock of pigeons stationed at backward square

  19. Excellent delivery from Revispublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 24 May

    Yorks 159 v Notts 228 & 194-3

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

Excellent delivery from Revis. Again, this angle is really successful to left-hand batters - we've seen that all season at Headingley.

As Revis goes around the wicket and angles the ball into Slater, the ball pitches and just deviates slightly and the ball gets a nick to Duke who takes a good catch.

  20. 150 runs

for Gloucestershirepublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 24 May

    Northants 469 v Glos 150-2

    Decent effort this from Gloucestershire.

Cameron Bancroft has 59 and he's joined in the half-ton club by Miles Hammond.

It's Hammond's fourth of the season and come off 60 balls with five fours.

It takes Glos to 150, still a long way back but this is a spirited respone.
