    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 112-0

    Dan WorrallImage source, Getty Images

Dan Worrall appeals for lbw against Paul Walter.

That pitched outside leg stump - definitely not out.

  2. Postpublished at 25.2 overs

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 107-0

Nathan Smith finds the edge again at the start of a new over but it doesn't carry to second slip, who can only 'tip it round the post' and it's four for Paul Walter.

The next one disappears in the same direction - this one a deliberate, and wristy dab by the tall Essex left-hander, who is now 71 not out.

  3. Close!published at 16:52 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hants 154 & 33-0 v Sussex 297

There is a big appeal for a catch at third slip off the bowling of Henry Crocombe but Fletcha Middleton, on 28, is going nowhere.

Much standing around and hands on hips as Sussex celebrate but umpires decide that that has hit the ground just before Tom Clark took the catch.

Bit of lingering tension after John Simpson was given not out for a bump ball towards the end of Sussex's innings perhaps.

Either way Middleton is still out there.

  4. 100 up for Kentpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 24 May

    Derbyshire 587-5 dec v Kent 100-1

Derbyshire aren't really getting any more out of this pitch than the Kent bowlers did.

Yes, there is scoreboard pressure on the visitors but they have two experienced batters out there and Daniel Bell-Drummond collects two to take the total past 100.

DBD and Ben Compton have added 72 in tandem since the loss of Joe Denly.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 24 May

    Killeen c Gregory b Davey 4 (Durham 133-9 & 277 v Somerset 172)

Another regulation dismissal sees Mitchell Killeen perish.

Josh Davey puts on on a place mat and Killeen pushes to Lewis Gregory at slip.

Somerset's openers mentally preparing for their run chase.

    Durham 243 ahead.

Concussion sub Daniel Hogg is the last man.

  6. Minto passes HIApublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 24 May

    Durham 133-8 & 277 v Somerset 172

Durham have already used one concussion substitute and there were concerns they may need another after James Minto is struck on the head by Migael Pretorius.

After the 17-year-old is checked out on the field by the physio, he is deemed ok to carry on.

Predictably the next ball is a bouncer as the peppering continues.

    Minto sees it through.

    Well played young man.

  7. 100 up for Essexpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 24 May

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 102-0

Paul Walter and Dean ElgarImage source, Rex Features

Isn't it weird how balls of a supposedly similar age behave in different ways?

This new one seems to have more fizz off the pitch and Dean Elgar gets away with one as he edges Nathan Smith and first and second slip fail to react.

It runs away for four and Elgar is 37 not out as Essex's score reaches three figures. Superb over.

  8. Walter 'looks a million dollars'published at 16:47 British Summer Time 24 May

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 96-0

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Paul Walter, who is 62 not out, looks a million dollars.

That was a chance for Dan Worrall but it was hit very hard straight back at him.

  9. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 23 overs

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 96-0

Dan Worrall is back in the middle and ready to bowl after tea.

Paul Walter clips him through mid-on for four, but when he repeats the shot he can't beat the fielder.

Walter drills the next one straight at the bowler, but although Worrall gets both hands to it, he can't take the catch.

A big miss by the Surrey paceman. But it looks like we are going to have a ball change.

  10. Tea at Cardiffpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 24 May

    Glamorgan 383 v Middlesex 79-4

Glamorgan give Australia spin bowler Matthew Kuhnemann his first over just before tea and it's a tidy one, costing him just a couple of runs.

Middlesex reach the interval 304 in arrears, with Leus du Plooy 13 not out and Ben Geddes on six.

They need to bat well in the final session in order to avoid any possibility of being asked to follow on.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 24 May

    Price c Vasconcelos b Harrison 10 (Northants 469 v Glos 72-2)

Calvin Harrison picks up Ollie Price.

It's a brilliant piece of work from both Harrison and Ricardo Vasconcelos.

Harrison floats a leggie up landing around leg stump and Price goes to lap/scoop it.

Anticipating this, Vasconcelos runs from slip to leg slip as the ball pitches and is in the perfect place to take the catch.

    Very good indeed, that.

  12. Postpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 24 May

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 90-0

What twists and turns can we expect in the final session at The Oval?

It has been fairly comfortable for Essex's openers so far and the visitors will certainly be hoping to push on to stumps without losing more than a couple of wickets.

Five of Surrey's six seamers have had a bowl so far - when will it be Jamie Overton's turn?

  13. Durham bring in concussion sub for Codi Yusufpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 24 May

    Durham 133-8 & 277 v Somerset 172

Durham have been allowed to make a change after seamer Codi Yusuf suffered a delayed reaction to being hit yesterday when batting.

He was struck on the helmet by Migael Pretorius and, although he was cleared to carry on (he took the final wicket to fall in Somerset's innings), he has failed a concussion test after tea after clearly not feeling right.

Daniel Hogg is his replacement and can play a full part - i.e, he can bat and bowl.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 24 May

    Clark lbw b Pretorius 29 (Durham 131-8 & 277 v Somerset 172)

Somerset clinging on as they take an eighth wicket.

Graham Clark is pinned in front by Migael Pretorius.

Might have kept a bit lower than Clark expected but it's taking the stumps out and he's gone.

    Durham's lead is 236.

    Interesting.

  15. Latest from Cardiffpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 24 May

    Glamorgan 383 v Middlesex 77-4

Middlesex are clinging on after losing two wickets in two balls from Andy Gorvin.

Following the dismissal of Max Holden (see 4.05 entry), Ryan Higgins was lbw to the next ball as he seemed in two minds about whether to play it or not.

  16. Tea at Headingleypublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 24 May

    Yorks 159 v Notts 228 & 113-2

The players and umpires shuffle off in twos and threes and the ground staff exchange places with buckets and brushes.

Notts will be very happy with their position after a session which saw them skittle the last three Yorkshire wickets for 40 runs and then stretch their lead to 182 with eight wickets remaining.

Ben Slater is unbeaten on 55 and Joe Clarke has survived a stiff examination by Ben Coad to walk off not out on 2.

Yorkshire need a blizzard of wickets or failing that, you suspect, an actual blizzard if they are not to lose this match in the final session.

  17. Postpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 24 May

    Yorks 159 v Notts 228 & 113-2

Ben Coad gets one to jag back at the stumps violently but Joe Clarke proves just about equal to it, jamming down his bat and keeping it out.

There is a bit of uneven bounce in the pitch as well as some movement through the air which makes the lead of 182 look ominous already.

  18. 50 runs

for Gloucestershirepublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 24 May

    Northants 469 v Glos 54-1

You feel that Cameron Bancroft will have to go big to get Gloucestershire back into this match and the skipper is looking good.

He's just tickled Harry Conway down to fine leg for four before taking a couple of the penultimate ball of the over to get Glos to 50.

Bancroft has 30 and his side would love to see him walk off unbeaten at stumps.

  19. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 22 overs

    Surrey 279 v Essex 217 & 90-0

    Paul WalterImage source, Rex Features

Back to back fours off Jordan Clark take Paul Walter to 50 off 56 balls in the final over before tea - what a good season he is having since being entrusted with the opening bat role by Essex.

And the left-hander isn't finished, he clips the next one through square leg for the hat-trick of boundaries before dabbing a single to move to 56 not out.

Partner Dean Elgar has 33 and the visitors are right back in this match, having cleared the first-innings deficit without losing a wicket.

Dan Worrall is still off the field after bowling only two overs with the new ball but even in his absence, Surrey still have five quality seamers they can call on.

  20. Ben Slater 'racking up the fifties'published at 16:16 British Summer Time 24 May

    Yorks 159 v Notts 228 & 109-2 (lead by 178)

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Ben Slater, he's not been a ton machine just yet, but he's definitely been racking up the fifties this season.
