I'm off for a little while.

Imagine for a moment that the live text team are having a metaphorical huddle. A handshake and a shiny cap for Sam Dalling, who is here for his Test debut.

It will be even better than Gus Atkinson's.

That session required discipline from both sides and England have just out-disciplined West Indies at the backend of it.

Alick Athanaze drags his heels as he trudges off the ground. He inspects the bottom part of his bat, hoping it will give him some clue to his dismissal. A mirror in the West Indies dressing room might give him the answer.

Early lunch taken. We'll restart at 13:39. Don't get caught out by the extra minute. I know how much you try to cram in during these lunch breaks.

Just as I was saying there is plenty to like about Athanaze there isn't much to like about that shot. There wasn't much conviction in the shot.

    Athanaze b Atkinson 2 (WI 97-3)

Played on! This morning has unravelled very quickly for West Indies.

It's a freebie, really. Alick Athanaze tries to pull Gus Atkinson, but it's no there and he bottom-edges on to his stumps. That's an early lunch, the session belonging to England after the Windies had the better of so much of it. They have lost 3-21.

Despite the loss of those two wickets, West Indies will still be feeling pretty happy with this session.

A third wicket though, particularly of Brathwaite, and England will be on top. West Indies will be really keen to avoid losing another one now.

A double-fist pump celebration from Mark Wood after seeing Kirk McKenzie's middle stump knocked out the ground. That felt good.

Those who stayed in their seats at Edgbaston rather than beat the queues for liquid refreshments were rewarded for their patience, too.

Alick Athanaze is the new man, clipping one into the boot of short leg Ollie Pope. Would have been out had the rebound gone to hand.

That is the benefit of raw pace. He was on the back foot and he hesitated.

It is an excellent piece of bowling.

It is the field set that has got that wicket. It was set for short-pitch bowling and Mark Wood, knowing that the batter is expecting that, gets it up there.

    Beautiful bowling.

    McKenzie b Wood 12 (WI 93-2)

Out of the ground! My goodness, how on earth do you play that? Shades of Usman Khawaja at Headingley as Mark Wood uproots Kirk McKenzie's middle stump with a 91mph howitzer.

Full, swinging back into the left-hander, rapid. Furniture destroyed. What a sight.

Gus Atkinson is just trying to push it across the left-hander a little bit too much because he doesn't have any cover on the leg side. It's forcing him to offer up width.

West Indies have been assured. They haven't followed the ball. They are making an effort to play tight to their body unless it is a real gift.

  16. WI 92-1published at 12:48 British Summer Time 26 July

That's nice from McKenzie, the left-hander tucking into Atkinson for three boundaries. The West Indies have under 15 minutes to go until lunch. If they get there one down, it will be a very fine morning.

I remember watching Gus Atkinson playing for Surrey against Middlesex last summer. Gus hadn't played many first-class games then, and Sam Robson, one of my best friends, was opening for Middlesex.

I asked Sam about Gus and he said 'yeah, there is something about him that makes him feel like a Test match bowler'. There's a reason he has been fast-tracked by England.

McKenzie is protected from Wood for now by, erm, a delicate area of Kraigg Brathwaite's anatomy. That's the second time he's been hit this morning, but doesn't even call the physio on. Must be made of steel.
