My Grahams (onions) have gone to seed already so have stopped growing. Anyone else name their veggies after cricketers?

93mph. Swing when it's full, terrifying bounce when it's short. Mark Wood is really starting his examination.

Mark Wood is starting to feel it. Remember, Kraigg Brathwaite was bounced out by Atkinson at Trent Bridge. England have called for a short leg.

Pretty pleased with the output of my tomato plant so far this year. Not the most, not the biggest but not bad for the concrete jungle.

Stokes casts a shadow to his right and runs in with the Birmingham city skyline behind him. Brathwaite drives past wide mid-off for three, exposing Louis, who has struggled against Stokes. The skipper loses his line a touch. Tricky.

Ben Duckett then races Harry Brook between the next over. Brook beat him, though. There's an impish competitiveness to the England opener. He's desperate to find someone he can beat in dash over 50 yards or so.

I'm not a fast bowler, but I suspect all this talk of breaking pace records can be a bit of a burden.

It's when you've got that effortless rhythm that you bowl really quickly. If you're really straining to break that pace barrier, the chances are that you haven't got the rhythm.

Is the slight furore over Mark Wood/ the speed gun detracting from an only very slight tendency to stray from his line and release pressure? I genuinely love watching high quality fast bowling but I do think he occasionally lets them off the hook with his line.

Wood is cranking it up, discomforting Brathwaite wit one into the hip. Ben Stokes briefly popped off, replaced by Dillon Pennington. I wonder if the skipper is getting ready to bowl?

Like two primary school kids Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley have just had a race between overs.

The pair sprinted from their positions in the slips at the Birmingham End to their spots in the cordon at the Pavilion End.

Crawley won it by a nose. Duckett then theatrically feigned a pulled calf.

That was the streakiest boundary imaginable. Kraigg Brathwaite was fortunate not to wear one there!

How's that got there? Too quick from Wood to Brathwaite, who isn't sure what to do and leaves the bat poking up. Somehow it flies over leg slip for four.

It took Mikyle Louis 22 balls to get off the mark. That is longest it has taken a Test opener to get off the mark in England since Alastair Cook also took 22 balls to get off the mark in 2017 against South Africa.

Touch short again from Woakes, allowing Louis to guide behind point for four more. When Woakes gets too straight, Louis tucks off his pads for four. It's not as if England have bowled badly, they just haven't bowled that well.

West Indies have won the first half hour. It doesn't matter that Louis has just got off the mark. And Brathwaite is supposed to be an elegant snail, but he is scoring quite quickly - what is going on?!

Wood has got over 90mph, just, but his radar is a touch off, too. West Indies the happier side so far.

That was 89mph. I think Aggers would have strained his side with that as a loosener!
