If you think of Edgbaston and West Indian cricketers it brings to mind a certain Brian Charles Lara.

There's a wonderful picture of the great left-hander inside the concourse at the bottom of one of the stands posing in front of the scoreboard.

It is, of course, from his legendary innings of 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham in June 1994.

*Abandoned half-drunk pint at the bottom of the picture for scale.

  2. WI 132-5published at 36 overs

Two off it. Another decent over from Chris Woakes...even if he did completely burn a review.

It did jag back quickly but it sort of looked good. It did have Da Silva falling over in his shot and it had rushed him which sometimes, just, the body language of the batter was why they went for the review.

Not even close that. A case of the bowler gently twisting the skipper's arm there me thinks.

Definitely no bat involved. Absolutely none at all.

  6. England reviewpublished at 35.3 overs

Chris Woakes strikes Josh Da Silva's pads. Eventually England go upstairs. Not out was the original call.

Mission accomplished Ann. Sounds like you've got an excellent weekend ahead.

Hi! It’s Ann, reading the live feed of the cricket to her husband John as he drives to Skegness for the weekend. I have no idea about anything cricket and none of this makes sense to me.

Vineet Jacob: Repeat of Nottingham second innings unfolding in the first innings here at Birmingham. Opening well but closing out way too quickly and calamitously through a collapse induced through lack of application and game awareness

  10. WI 130-5published at 35 overs

Decent set of six from Stokes that. It was just the no-ball between numbers four and five that spoiled it.

The answer to my query about what Ben Stokes will do next? Give himself the nod (and if there is a human capable of somehow nodding at himself, it is definitely our Ben).

  12. WI 129-5published at 34 overs

I like Josh Da Silva's intent here. Doesn't look like he will leave a single run out there.

However, a note of caution: the last thing the West Indies need now is a run-out.

It's bit of zoo around the back of the Hollies Stand as fans take on board refreshments. Bumped into these two chaps, who wished to be known as 'Merv' and 'Merv', dressed as butchers. There have been quite a few famous Butchers to have played international cricket of course. Roland, Mark, Basil and Ian come to mind.

3.5 overs for Wood now post-lunch. He usually bowls four over bursts. What does Ben Stokes do here?

My big issue with "Big G"'s behaviour is that his mayonnaise started "on" his chips. Surely the mayo goes on the side ready for a bit of dunk action? But then again, his pal might have just been being frugal with his words.

Call out to my mate Graeme Conely "Big G" sitting next to me at Edgbaston who is celebrating his 50th birthday today - who just sprayed mayonnaise on everyone from his chips after the recent wicket....

Fancy a peek at Chris Woakes dismissing Kavem Hodge? Of course you do.

Well, unless your name happens to be Kavem Hodge...in which case point your head in a different direction now.

  18. WI 123-5published at 32 overs

Run out chance? I reckon it was about two-thirds of one.

It was an odd run from Jason Holder who, for all his many fine qualities, is not the sharpest between the two sets of sticks. Ollie Pope couldn't quite gather cleanly though, and Holder gets away with it.

West Indies used to be the tour to look forward to. Dynamic flamboyant batting, lethal pace bowling. Sadly, talented West Indian youngsters no longer see Test cricket as a priority career choice with the lure of American sports. Rarely competitive it really is no challenge sadly.

  20. WI 119-5published at 31 overs

A maiden from Mark Wood. And an over without losing a wicket for the West Indies.
