Jack Leach has a superb second-innings record.

He has 76 wickets at an average of 24.1. Out of all the England spinners in the last 50 years who have bowled in five or more second innings, none has a better average than Leach.

  2. Pak 147-6published at 44 overs

Ben Stokes is still doing his best Claudio Ranieri impression even while bowling - tinkering the field at every opportunity.

There isn't quite the same threat in his overs as his Durham team-mate Brydon Carse.

I think it's fair to say the umpire has had a shocker there not giving that Leach lbw on the field. Plumber then the plumbest thing imaginable and it looked it in real time!

Aameer Jamal has shown he's a more than capable batter so England will do well to run through this lower order quickly.

That wicket gives England hope. As soon as it hit the pad, Smith and Leach were very interested. It skipped through and straightened.

    Shakeel lbw b Leach 31 (Pak 145-6)

Gone! Hitting the middle of middle in fact!

You can see why Chris Gaffaney didn't give that. There was a lot going on as Saud Shakeel got low to sweep but once there was no bat or glove on it and the ball straightened it was always going to be close.

    England have a sniff. Just.

There's no bat. Could be close, this.

    Shakeel was on the sweep.

The scoreboard pressure isn't there for Pakistan now, which helps.

In a strange way, these runs that Pakistan are accumulating will give hope to England. If Pakistan can score them, why can't they?

  11. Pak 145-5published at 42 overs

    Lead by 220

Ben Stokes takes some sweat from Brydon Carse's back and adds it to the ball before running in for his third over in the innings.

His second delivery is on Salman Ali Agha's pads and the right-hander calmly tucks it away for four.

Saud Shakeel is playing a superb innings. Fewer than 10% of his shots in this innings have been false shots, which is the first time a batter has achieved this in this game.

  13. Pak 139-5published at 41 overs

    Lead by 214

Jack Leach is yet to find the vicious turn of Sajid Khan in this innings. Given the conditions, it's slightly surprising he's only bowled the 11 overs.

The pressure is almost off Pakistan now - every run cements their position as being on top.

If there's one team in world cricket right now that could chase 250-odd runs on a turning wicket in Multan, it will probably be this England side.

The players are about to re-emerge. Stating the obvious here but England need to create some chances and then take them.

And they need to do it very quickly.

Why can't England catch balls? Men and women's teams as bad as each other.

A few hundred miles south east in Bengaluru, New Zealand continue to dominate India.

Tom Latham was pinned lbw by Kuldeep Yadav, ending the opening stand at 67, but Devon Conway is 61 not out from 64 balls.

Responding to India's 46 all out, New Zealand are already 36 ahead at 82-1.

Foakes was left out because he struggled to change gears and bat with the tail. That hasn't changed since he left the team.

Smith has kept excellently since his debut at the start of the summer. Foakes dropped the odd chance too, remember.
