Adam Davies: Time for one of 'those spells' from Stokes.

  2. Pak 120-5published at 35 overs

    Lead by 195

Just a single from Matthew Potts' latest over.

With 20 minutes until tea, England will feel if they can nip out another Pakistan batter before then, they are still right in this game.

It might just be starting to reverse swing a touch here, and Brydon Carse is toiling hard.

He's got his reward and he's looked the most likely to make these breakthroughs after the lunch.

  4. Pak 119-5published at 34 overs

    Lead by 194

England have got the ball reversing so they may well stick with their pace bowlers for a little while yet.

Brydon Carse gets one to tail back in to Salman Ali Agha with the right-hander caught on the crease but he's saved by an inside edge.

Pakistan's lead is creeping up towards 200 though...

    So close for Matthew Potts!

A hint of movement and very little bounce as he goes past the inside edge of the driving Salman Ali Agha.

Not far away from the off stump.

Things are not getting any better for India in Bengaluru.

Having dismissed India for 46, New Zealand are already into the lead and they have not lost a wicket.

Black Caps openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway have reached 49-0 at the end of the 14th over.

Looks quite clear the way to play on this pitch is to attack, which suits our batting line-up. Would love to see us chasing 250 tomorrow.

    Lead by 189

Salman Ali Agha defends the last ball of the over solidly but Brydon Carse has made a crucial breakthrough again.

He enjoys bowling to Muhammad Rizwan - that's the third time he's dismissed him already in this series.

Joe Root is fielding at that close first slip position wearing the helmet, just to make sure that if a catch like that does go flying to him, it carries. You can hear the delight of Brydon Carse.

Pakistan are still very much in the box seat, but that gives England an opening.

    Edged and gone!

Brydon Carse went right through Muhammad Rizwan with a delivery that nipped back slightly on the angle earlier in the over.

Perhaps Rizwan was expecting that straighter line because he pushes at a slightly wider ball with very little foot movement and edges to slip.

Joe Root is very close again but takes it well.

    A much-needed wicket for England.

They might have to do so again at this rate...

Muhammad Rizwan is going to try and take down Matthew Potts.

He advances again and then smears what is almost a sweep shot through mid-wicket for four more.

  16. Pak 107-4published at 30.2 overs

    Lead by 182

A hint of reverse swing for Matthew Potts as he beats Muhammad Rizwan first up.

The response is swift and effective, Rizwan down the track and hammering the ball over mid-off for four.

Yeah, this could get very interesting...

England will be looking at how this pitch has behaved and thinking they will want to break this partnership quickly.

I'm sure Ben Stokes is very aware of the contrasting numbers of these batters against spin and pace and Brydon Carse will have a go at them because the spin has looked a bit ineffective after lunch.

  18. Pak 103-4published at 30 overs

    Lead by 178

Just a single from Brydon Carse's over but no real concerns for either Pakistan batter.

That's been true for the last little while. England need to make something happen and Ben Stokes has decided the seamers are his best bet.

Matthew Potts is coming on for his first bowl of the innings.

  19. Pak 102-4published at 29.1 overs

Was someone in the England dressing room listening to TMS?

They have turned to pace and Brydon Carse is on.

Muhammad Rizwan tries to welcome him with a big shot but gets nowhere near the ball with an ugly leg-side hack.

Shakeel, meanwhile, averages 88 against spin and 33 against pace.
