Alex Carey is getting Australia into a really handy position. A total well over 300 looks and feels like a match winning total to me.

But just two quick wickets for India, getting Glenn Maxwell in and out means the game could have a totally different complexion.

Alex Carey has 39 from 34 balls and has put Australia into a very decent position.

Hardik Pandya has been slightly expensive today. He needs to work on taking away that easy shot just square of the wicket for Alex Carey.

Australia's acceleration continues, as Alex Carey helps himself to two more boundaries off Hardik Pandya.

The return to pace hasn't worked for India so far. Glenn Maxwell is full of smiles on the Australia balcony.

The way that India have gone about things is very clever. They have chopped and changed their bowlers to not let any Australia batter to get comfortable.

Rohit Sharma has so many options to choose from in the back half of this game.

Steve Smith has an exceptional record in international knockout matches.

Before today the Australia captain had batted six times in such games, scoring 345 runs at an average of 69.

Well, he's just ticked over to 70 so that average is only going up from here...

There's lots of changes of pace here from Shami, he is not giving Steve Smith any pace to work with and he knows he can't afford to give anything full.

Australia are getting to a competitive total and to a point where India look nervous. That's what you are hoping for when you make the decision to bat first.

    Ooooh!

Rohit Sharma turns back to his seamer and Mohammed Shami almost gets the breakthrough, with Steve Smith miscuing a pull shot just over the fielder at mid-wicket for a couple.

Rohit Sharma looks a nervous man at the moment. Carey has the ability to hit so well and Australia still have Glenn Maxwell in the shed.

That was stroked beautifully over cover. Again, he is not over-hitting but just trying to find the middle of the bat.

    Brilliant.

A loopy delivery from Kuldeep and Carey shovels it over mid-on for four more, and then connects beautifully with a drive up and over cover for the same result.

He's taken all the pressure off Smith with this counter-attacking knock.

A beautiful slog sweep from Alex Carey. He didn't try to over-hit the ball, he just focused on finding good contact and that went all the way.

    Hello!

Alex Carey gets down on one knee and nails a slog sweep off Chakravarthy into the stands.

He moves to 20 from 19 balls and has added some much-needed energy into Australia's innings.

Australia will be happy if they can keep taking five an over off Kuldeep.

Steve Smith times another crisp drive down the ground for a couple.

Australia are perhaps one more wicket down than they would like. Smith and Inglis would have loved their partnership to last a little bit longer, before they made way for the creativity of Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell.

Steve Smith is playing on a different planet today. He has been so in control, in a way that no-one else has.

He keeps the run accumulation up and is keeping things moving against this India side.

The spinners are absolutely whizzing through their overs here. Another accurate over from Chakravarthy is calmly negotiated by Smith, who holds the key for Australia.

Australia are building a reasonable platform, with perhaps one more wicket lost than they'd have liked. However, taking India down at the death is no mean feat on any surface - just once in the last five years have their last 10 overs gone for more than 100 runs.

    Four more.

A slice of luck for Carey, who sweeps Kuldeep Yadav and gets a bottom-edge which trickles away to the fine leg boundary.

A brave shot from Carey to expose the wickets. High risk means high reward; that's the kind of cricket being played today.

Well, Alex Carey isn't going to let the spinners settle.

One-bounce four, straight down the ground off Jadeja. Lovely strike.
