Summary

  1. Eng 169-6published at 36.1 overs

    Better.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge paddles one from Alana King fine and down to the boundary.

  2. Eng 165-6published at 36 overs

Danni Wyatt-Hodge manages only a single from that free hit.

It's not quite happening for England.

  3. Eng 160-6published at 35.2 overs

Australia know they're on top and as a result bowlers and wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy are up and about, yelping in anticipation of ball hitting pad.

Megan Schutt is back and, like in her first over of the day, has overstepped to offer up a free hit...

England have to get themselves to 250 somehow. The majority of the runscoring is going to fall to Danni Wyatt-Hodge now, you think. The good news for them is Kim Garth is finished.

  5. Eng 158-6published at 35 overs

It sounds like DRS is down from the end Alana King is bowling.

England might have got away with one because if we go by Henry-Eye, Charlie Dean was plumb there.

    The scoring has stalled badly.

  6. Eng 158-6published at 34.3 overs

What's going on? Charlie Dean has been pinned right in front.

Australia's appeal is turned down but then the umpires come together for a chat.

Some more straw clutching: England have scored nicely around the wicket today. They've scored 76 runs in boundaries - exactly 38 have come behind the wicket, and 38 in front.

  8. Eng 157-6published at 34 overs

Charlie Dean is the latest England batter to wander out.

    A big innings is required.

Australia are turning the screw now. England have to try to find a way to keep the scoreboard ticking over but there haven't really been those scoring opportunities.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33.4 overs

    Capsey c Gardner b Garth 4 (Eng 157-6)

    Right on cue.

Clearly frustrated at being able to get herself going, Alice Capsey slashes at a wide delivery from Kim Garth. She neither keeps it down or aims high and simply picks out Ash Gardner at backward point.

    England are in trouble.

Matt, Brentwood: Alice Capsey? I'd love to know what Mady Villiers had done wrong.

  12. Eng 155-5published at 33 overs

    Wyatt-Hodge 20, Capsey 3

With the stats of the great Ben Jones echoing around her head, Alice Capsey takes an unwise venture down the pitch and hacks at Alana King.

The ball skews high into the air but, thankfully for Capsey and England, away from the fielders.

Fifteen balls to get off the mark is the longest for Capsey in ODI cricket - her previous longest was nine balls against South Africa back in December

  14. Eng 150-5published at 31 overs

Finally Alice Capsey gets off the mark at the 15th attempt.

That crowd catch Tim mentioned a little earlier? Absolutely sensational...

Five more dots to Alice Capsey from Alana King.

England's number seven has faced 11 deliveries now and is yet to score a run.

Alice Capsey burst onto the scene and got picked up by many franchises because of her explosive nature and ability to score runs.

Her form has gone down over the past 18 months and she hasn't been able to score as many runs lately. She will also want to work on her fielding and bowling which hasn't really developed.

  18. Eng 147-5published at 30 overs

Alice Capsey comes into this series in a tricky spot. She was dropped for the T20 series in South Africa but was ultimately recalled because of injuries elsewhere.

She managed only eight in her one innings on that tour.

She's made a watchful start here with a couple of Boycottian leaves early on.

Gardner takes two key England wickets

England captain Heather Knight, speaking to TNT Sports: "It's not a straightforward pitch actually, it's a little bit two-paced. There's been some rain around in the last week or so and there's some tackiness in the wicket. We've seen some turn and bounce too.

"I was a little bit frustrated with how I got out - it was too wide to sweep in the end - but that happens. I think the pitch will get slightly better. We've probably had the most movement and hopefully there's a little bit left in it for us when we bowl."

Amy Jones had just swung the momentum. There were those wides by Kim Garth and a misfield from Tahlia McGrath just prior to the wicket.

Now Alice Capsey emerges with a long way to go in the innings.
