Summary

  1. Australia reviewpublished at 4.5 overs

Now then Lauren Bell has hit Alyssa Healy high on the leg and appealed for lbw.

Given out on field, but Healy immediately reviews.

  2. Aus 18-1published at 4.4 overs

Not quite as much swing from England's new-ball pair as Australia found earlier, but there's still enough movement through the air to challenge their techniques.

Fourth delivery of Lauren Bell's third over draws a leading edge from Alyssa Healy's bat, but the ball plops safe.

  3. Aus 17-1published at 4 overs

Ellyse Perry is hurried by one from Lauren Filer as she attempts to whip the ball square. Later in the over, Perry rides a shorter delivery and stylishly guides it through point for four.

A pretty quiet over from Lauren Bell which will suit England as they look to build some kind of pressure on this Australia batting line-up.

To get one of these senior players would give them a boost.

  5. Aus 11-1published at 3 overs

Ellyse Perry is the new batter for the Aussies and she's quickly off the mark.

Lauren Bell is staying full and straight to Alyssa Healy, attempting to draw the the opener into a mistake. Healy looks very organised and has a determined look on her face.

A bit of pace and bounce and Phoebe Litchfield is gone! A great delivery, it just nips off the surface through to Amy Jones to give England a breakthrough.

'Huge' moment for England as Filer removes Litchfield

A peach from Lauren Filer gives England an early breakthrough!

The England seamer gets the left-handed Phoebe Litchfield prodding at one which slides across her and she nicks off.

Amy Jones gobbles up the catch, and England celebrate. They have hope.

A knee-high full toss from Lauren Filer. She has the freedom to bowl as fast as she can but you need to keep an eye on those runs you're giving away too.

  9. Aus 8-0published at 1.1 overs

Phoebe Litchfield gets a freebie of a full toss from Lauren Filer on her legs which she glances for four. Australia's first boundary.

  10. Aus 3-0published at 1 overs

Phoebe Litchfield and Alyssa Healy fairly watchful to start, as you would expect, and safely negotiate Lauren Bell's opening over.

The only way England can win is if they bowl Australia out. They have an uphill battle but they have to go out believing they can win this game.

  12. Aus 1-0published at 0.3 overs

There's plenty of swing on offer for Lauren Bell's first few deliveries. England need to take a clutch of early wickets to give themselves a sniff of a chance.

Thanks, Matthew. I'm nice to everyone.

Phoebe Litchfield has just scratched our her guard. Lauren Bell is tossing the ball from hand to hand at the top of her mark.

The players have just re-emerged so this looks a good time for me to hand you back to Timothy Abraham.

I'd give him the big build-up but you'd think I was only being nice because he was so lovely to me...

It's safe to say that Ash Gardner enjoys playing against England.

She now has 21 wickets against them in 14 ODIs, and she was a real thorn in their side during the 2023 series where she took 23 wickets across all three formats.

The all-rounder has started ominously here. Truthfully, Australia barely broke a sweat in bowling England out there - it was handed to them.

Alyssa Healy was really on the money with reading her use of Australia's bowlers, then her attack was really on the money. It was an example of Australia executing their plans. England are massively under par here. One thing I would like to see is England's lower order not just collapse. There's a real gap compared with how Australia's tail bat.

Gardner takes two key England wickets

England's slide started with the loss of captain Heather Knight. They were 92-2 before she top-edged a sweep to deep mid-wicket.

When Nat Sciver-Brunt followed in similar fashion two overs later, England were always going to be in trouble.

So much depends on whether one of those two can go big.

I said it earlier, Australia weren't perfect. They gave England 25 extras, including that wicket in the first over off a no-ball.

But when you have the depth they do, they can just keep on coming.

Ash Gardner ended with three wickets while Annabel Sutherland, Kim Garth and Alana King all took two each.

England are well short of a competitive score. They didn't capitalise on any of the starts that they made at the crease.

Australia will be very happy with how things have gone; they were exceptional with the ball and reap the rewards of that.
