Spiralling high, high in the air... and taken!

Matt Henry goes for the big heave over the square boundary, Bethell is out there on the rope and makes a dive as the ball comes down to complete the catch.

Stokes has a wicket with his fourth ball, and England are two wickets away.

Ben Stokes, for the first time in this innings.

He replaces Bashir, whose three post-tea overs have gone for 1-29.

  3. NZ 246-7published at 50 overs

    Woops.

Carse troubles Smith with a short delivery and the ball skews towards square leg.

Pope collects and throws down the non-striker's, it goes for overthrows and the New Zealand batters run four before Bashir chases down the ball on the boundary.

  4. NZ 241-7published at 49 overs

Here's Matt Henry, the one that's not stuck at a Queenstown garage.

His thick edge from his second ball flies past Duckett for four - not much the England slip could do about that one.

But now Bashir has his man!

It takes a spectacular bit of catching work to remove Tom Blundell.

The centurion goes for a pop sweep over his shoulder, the ball skims off his arm and Pope's gloves, then Duckett, running around from slip to the leg slip position, gets a hand on it.

Momentum takes Duckett past the ball, but his pivots in the air to take the catch on the second attempt.

Blundell's excellent innings comes to an end, as does a 96-run partnership between him and Smith.

    Bashir goes the distance again!

Blundell heaves him for another six over long-on.

  7. NZ 231-6published at 48 overs

    Pulled hard from Blundell.

Carse's first ball is short and the New Zealand keeper lashes it away for four.

Right, that sounds like a plan, except... how will Matt recognise you, Anonymous?

Maybe he can guess who you are and will get it right.

To me that sounds improbable, but you'd be the expert in these matters.

I’m in Queenstown tomorrow for a Convention on Improbability and could pick up Matt & Laura - most likely.

    Launched!

A three brings Nathan Smith back on strike and the all-rounder lofts a Bashir full toss over long-on, just clearing the leaping, lanky Zak Crawley.

A couple of dots close the over, 11 runs from it.

That is Tom Blundell's fifth Test hundred, but his first for 29 innings. His last was against England at Bay Oval in 2023, when he made 138.

Of these five centuries, three have come against England, with one each against Australia and West Indies.

    Almost out on 99!

Instead Tom Blundell has his fifth Test century, seeing his thick inside edge chop past the stumps and run away for two runs.

It's been a superb knock from the New Zealand wicketkeeper.

  13. NZ 215-6published at 46 overs

Short and heading down leg, Blundell helps Carse's delivery on its way to the boundary with a touch of a pull shot.

A single from the following ball has him retain the strike and move to 99.

I'll be Mr/Ms Anonymous, it's 3am and I'm barely prepared to have a conversation about anything, let alone that fairly well-trodden topic.

Get me some biscuits though, and I'll stage a full debate.

Is it time to have a conversation about whether Bashir should really be England’s number one spinner? If I were Jack Leach, I’d be pretty miffed to be demoted in favour of somebody who bowls three drag-downs per over.

This is Tom Blundell's first 90+ score since 24 February 2023, when he made 90 on this ground against England.

  17. NZ 208-6published at 45 overs

Bashir sends his following ball down the leg side, a scrambling Pope can't stop it and Blundell runs a bye.

A couple of singles follow, nine runs from the first over after the interval.

  18. 6 runs

    NZ 205-6published at 44.2 overs

Tom Blundell is straight back into it after tea!

He lumps Bashir's second ball straight back over his head for six, punching a neat hole in the stretched plastic sheeting that's being used as a sight screen.

That's New Zealand's 200 up, and Blundell moves into the 90s.

I do hope Matt sorts himself out, I have a great sympathy for him as a fellow member of the two first names club.

Stephan says we're not to be trusted.

Anyway, the players are back out, I'm sure you'll all be delighted to hear.

There is another Matt Henry on Wikipedia, a musical theatre performer whose last credit was in the Devil Wears Prada musical at Plymouth's Theatre Royal.

His location is yet to be ascertained.
