'Ridiculous bit of cricket' - Sciver-Brunt dismissed by Ecclestone

  1. Rockets 34-1published at 25 balls

    Now Ecclestone hunts the pads.

She strikes the legs of Nat Sciver-Brunt with three successive deliveries - albeit with a wide after the first.

The last of those runs away of four behind the keeper, it's given to Sciver-Brunt by the umpire, correctly as it turns out - there's a tickle of bat before it clips the pads.

That's the end of the powerplay.

A good bit of cricket from the Originals.

I'm not sure about that shot from the first ball.

I know it's a quick game, but you're allowed to look at one or two from the bowler.

Wraith st Mooney b Ecclestone 17 (Rockets 29-1)

Sophie Ecclestone does indeed hunt the stumps!

The England spinner draws Nat Wraith out with her first delivery, the Rocket opener heaves at clean air, and Beth Mooney takes off the bails as the ball arrives just over the wicket.

In comes England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt for the home side.

  4. 'Rockets have shown good intent'published at 15:16 British Summer Time

    Manchester Originals

Manchester Originals' Melie Kerr on the player mic: "Trent Rockets have shown some good intent. We have defended low-scoring totals and hopefully we keep them to a low one.

"Anything under 140 runs for Trent Rockets, but we would love to keep them at 120."

Sophie Ecclestone always keeps the stumps in play and always keeps you guessing with the length.

  6. Rockets 29-0published at 20 balls

Bryony Smith had only faced three of the first 15 balls, scoring three from them, but she gets going as Lauren Filer comes on to bowl.

She pulls for four at mid-wicket, then adds another boundary off the next ball with a crashing drive through the covers.

Here comes Sophie Ecclestone for Originals.

A poor ball from Kathryn Bryce. Everything is angling in, and Bryce is trying to cramp the batters room, but it was a great shot by Nat Wraith.

  8. Rockets 19-0published at 15 balls

Kathryn Bryce comes on for Originals and Beth Mooney, standing up to the seamer, can be heard praising her bowler as she starts with two dot balls.

Nat Wraith gets for off the third though, advancing down the pitch to strike over the covers.

This is the sixth time Mahika Gaur has bowled 10 balls at one go this season. No other bowler in men's or women's competition has bowled more this season.

    Twin fours for Nat Wraith.

She strikes over mid-on to pick up her first boundary then spoons a shot over point two deliveries later.

Three Originals fielders give chase but can't beat the ball to the ropes.

Lauren Filer staggers into the electric advertising hoarding and collapses a few of them.

All of Mahika Gaur’s deliveries this season have come in the powerplay, where her economy rate of 4.1 runs per set is bettered only by one seamer (min. 25 deliveries in the PP) - Kate Cross.

She has generated an average swing of 2.56°, no seamer has swung it more at a pace higher than Gaur’s average pace of 65.7 mph.

Every franchise team wants to open the bowling with a left-armer because of the shape they bring into the right-hander. It's a slightly unusual angle.

Bonus runs for the Trent Rockets. It was only one run, but you can lose the game by one run. Tone setting. When you start badly it's not great.

  13. Rockets 3-0published at 5 balls

Bit of a sloppy start in the field from Manchester Originals.

Nat Wraith sends Mahika Gaur square and takes one run, but the throw flies over wicketkeeper Beth Mooney and isn't backed-up, allowing the visiting batters to take another run.

Still, only three runs from Gaur's first set of five balls, and she's going to take five more.

It is not a must-win for the Trent Rockets, but you feel for their tournament they have got to put in a good performance.

Time to get under way at a somewhat gloomy Trent Bridge.

Unsurprisingly, the towering Manchester Originals left-arm seamer Mahika Gaur is going to open the bowling.

Bryony Smith faces for Trent Rockets, with Nat Wraith at the other end.

    Nat Sciver-Brunt is world-class.

I don't think we understand how difficult it is to be the lone player and to come out game after game.

She understands the game and has massive awareness.

  17. 'Stoked to be bowling first'published at 14:57 British Summer Time

    Manchester Originals

Manchester Originals captain Beth Mooney, speaking to BBC Two: "Happy to finally win a toss.

"Pretty stoked to be bowling first, and we're happy with our choice.

"Similar sentiment to Ash [Gardner] we have been good in patches.

"Hopefully, it is not too close today, and we get the four points and get back to Manchester."

  18. 'We have been good in patches'published at 14:55 British Summer Time

    Trent Rockets

Trent Rockets captain Ash Gardner, speaking to BBC Two: "Hopefully we start on time today - I'm sure it will be fine.

"I guess it is obvious what we need to do for the rest of the tournament - win as many games as possible. I feel we have been good in patches, but we also lost those patches as well."

  19. 'Originals have played exceptional cricket'published at 14:54 British Summer Time

Throughout the whole tournament, Manchester Originals have played exceptional cricket.

Excited to see them out here today, and hopefully they put on a show for us.
