England captain Kate Cross: "It's been three good games of cricket but to go down to the wire like that, our girls did really well to get back into the game. Credit to Ireland, I thought they were the better side today."

On whether she was in contention to bowl the last over: "Not with the way I bowled today. I thought Mady was brilliant, disappointing not to get us over the line, because she got us so close, but I thought the nous that she bowled with and the ability to get us back into that was fantastic. We've come over here with a very young and inexperienced side and to win a series is still absolutely mega so I'm really chuffed for all the girls."

On what things her side needed to improve: "I think just tightening up. We didn't bat all our overs, and then we've managed to keep ourselves in a game that we were out of for a long time. I think that should give the girls a lot of positivity going forward.

"We've got a couple of days rest now, this has been quite a tough series, three games in five days has been quite full on, so we've got a little best of rest time now, go to Dublin and try again on Saturday."

Ireland captain Gaby Lewis: "I think we just tried to keep the camp in positive spirits. Cricket's hard sometimes and obviously playing against top quality nations these kind of defeats are going to happen, but I think it's the way we can bounce back and I think we did that brilliantly today. Credit to the girls, I couldn't ask for more.

"I think you do feel it a little bit more as captain, to lead by example, so I was a bit disappointed in those first two games. I'm delighted to be in the runs, but kudos the girls, they were brilliant today.

"We're really confident after the Sri Lanka series, so we're heading in the right direction which is the important thing."

Player of the match Aimee Maguire: "Gaby was telling me to warm-up and then to hold off a couple of times, so I think I was just really ready to get going!

"We kept going over how the past few games went and I just kept sticking to the plan we agreed to from the start, and it worked out.

"We said to remain positive, stick to our plans and just keep going, keep the energy up - don't let it get to us."

Hollie Armitage ran past it - what a way to do it! Dalzell came out and was cool as a cucumber.

    Oh my word, Alana Dalzell!

She comes to the crease having seen wickets fall from the last three balls but is cool under pressure, smacking the four required to win a match that seemed to have slipped from Ireland's grasp.

In truth, she can thank a horrible misfield from Hollie Armitage on the ropes behind the bowler - looking into the low September sun she managed to run right past the ball.

Ireland won't care, the win goes down in the record books!

What an inspired decision to bowl Mady Villiers in this final over by captain Kate Cross. We thought she'd bowl it herself.

    Maguire b Villiers 0 (Ire 151-7)

    And now three from three!

Jane Maguire is the next victim of Mady Villiers, advancing down the ground and seeing her leg stump up-rooted.

This game has flipped on its head.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 21.4 overs

    Tector b Villiers 0 (Ire 151-6)

    Two from two!

Alice Tector is bowled sweeping by Mady Villiers!

Ireland still need four, but this innings is falling apart...

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 21.3 overs

    Raymond-Hoey run out 7 (Ire 151-5)

    Oh dear - poor running!

Una Raymond-Hoey is run out at the keeper's end, seemingly not expecting to be called through for a second run by her batting partner.

Rebecca Stokell had almost completed her second run by the time Raymond-Hoey set off, plenty of time for Mady Villiers to relay the ball to Bess Heath after the ball came in from long on.

They do get a run amidst that, so the target is four from the three remaining deliveries.

  11. Ire 150-4published at 21.2 overs

    Need 5 from 4 balls

It's Mady Villiers to bowl the last. Stokell chips the first ball to long on for a single, then they race through two to bring up the 150.

  12. Ire 147-4published at 21 overs

    Need 8 from 6 balls

Top stuff from Lauren Filer - a single from her first ball and then the England seamer sends down three balls that Rebecca Stokell can't get away.

The Ireland batter has to take a risky single into the covers just to tick the score along, and Raymond-Hoey can't score off the last ball.

England now in the driving seat?

  13. Ire 145-4published at 20 overs

    Need 10 from 12 balls

Mady Villiers now for England, Ireland manage to work six runs from her over - a wide, two off the bat and three byes.

Ireland would absolutely love a boundary here.

We are in for a humdinger of a finish here - that over from Lauren Filer is potentially gamechanging.

  15. Ire 139-4published at 19 overs

    Need 16 from 18 balls

Two new batters at the crease in Rebecca Stokell and Una Raymond-Hoey, hoping to see their side home.

Raymond-Hoey manages to take a single from her first delivery.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18.5 overs

    Paul c Heath b Filer 22 (Ire 138-4)

    Second wicket in the over!

Leah Paul top-edges behind to Bess Heath and what was feeling like a relatively comfortable chase is now looking rather more difficult.

That is just what England will have wanted - the extra pace did for Gaby Lewis. We could hear the edge from up here in the commentary box.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18.2 overs

    Lewis c Heath b Filer (Ire 137-3)

Lewis can't see her side home!

It's the pace of Lauren Filer that finally does for her, drawing out the edge behind to keeper Bess Heath.

She departs for 72 from 56, having brought her side within sight of victory - can they finish the job?

The sun is very low now so it's a good chance for the batters to hit the ball straight down the ground and the fielders will struggle to pick it up.

  20. Ire 136-2published at 18 overs

    Need 19 from 24 balls

Lewis guides the ball from the returning Freya Kemp to the ropes for a first four in 23 deliveries.

The England seamer then spills a chance, failing to hang on to Paul's punch down the wicket.

A quickly run two closes the over and brings up the fifty partnership from 37 balls.
