  1. Pak 81-1published at 14 overs

26 runs needed from 36 balls

Rizwan lashes Saad towards the mid-wicket fence, but the diving boundary rider manages to cut the ball off with a mixture of hand and stomach.

As you can see from the worm below, Pakistan have just eased their way past the Canadian rate, and that's all they need to do with this partnership set.

Babar has made up his mind that he is going to put his foot on the accelerator to get the job done and silence some of the critics who say he does not score fast enough.

  3. Pak 76-1published at 13 overs

    Target 107

Babar brings up the fifty partnership from 49 balls, working the returning Kaleem Sana to backward square for a couple.

He then lashes his first four past a despairing backward point.

Pakistan's middle order has been known to implode so it is very important this experienced pair of Rizwan and Babar see the job through.

  5. Pak 68-1published at 12 overs

    Target 107

Look, there's only so many ways I can say "Pakistan take a single" - four of them in this Saad over, for the record.

Ultimately Babar Azam's side don't need to hit fours and sixes to win this, the required run-rate is under a run a ball, and this slow New York outfield doesn't lend itself to boundaries anyway.

Doesn't make for a thrilling spectacle though.

  6. Pak 64-1published at 11 overs

    Target 107

Back to business as usual after the interval as Pakistan take five singles from five Heyliger deliveries, after the Canadian all-rounder started with a dot ball.

If Canada can somehow get a couple of wickets to get into the middle order, you never know. But Pakistan look very comfortable right now.

Now would you believe it, qualifying for the next T20 World Cup - held in India in Sri Lanka in 2026 - has just got under way with a European qualifying tournament in Rome.

You may recall that former Australia batter Joe Burns has decided to try to help Italy qualify as a tribute to his late brother.

The 34-year-old, who played 23 Tests, six ODIs and two T20Is for Australia, made 58 batting at number three in a 77-run win over Luxembourg.

However, it did not go to plan for Burns yesterday with a first-ball duck against France, although Italy still managed a five-wicket victory.

  9. Pak 59-1published at 10 overs

    Target 107

No further boundaries from the over, but that six certainly broke the rather soporific atmosphere, with the Pakistan fans in the crowd enthusiastically cheering as their batters take singles.

We're at the halfway stage and the players will take drinks. While we wait for the resumption, here's some news of the next tournament...

The Pakistan fans are on their feet. The flags and banners are out.

    This is more like it.

  11. Pak 54-1published at 9.1 overs

That's one way to wake up the crowd!

Babar picks up his first boundary of the innings, clouting Junaid Siddiqui down the ground for six.

    That takes Pakistan past fifty...

  12. Pak 48-1published at 9 overs

    Target 107

A second four from Rizwan, truly we are blessed!

He sweeps Saad Bin Zafar away to the ropes.

  13. Pak 41-1published at 8 overs

    Target 107

Another six runs accumulated by the Pakistan batters off the bowling of Junaid Siddiqui as they eek their way towards this total.

They don't really need to do much more than this, as WinViz indicates, but a couple of wickets could make it interesting.

Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam are the perfect pairing for this sort of situation. They know when to accelerate, it's just whether they can on this surface.

  15. Pak 35-1published at 7 overs

    Target 107

First bit of spin for Canada as captain Saad bin Zafar brings himself on.

Pakistan work him around the ground for eight runs.

That bat is no more. It has gone to meet its maker I'm afraid.

That was a good shot by Rizwan. You've got to hit it hard to get four on this surface.

  18. Pak 28-1published at 6 overs

Muhammad Rizwan strikes Pakistan's first boundary of the bat from the 32nd ball of the innings, cracking Gordon through mid-wicket.

A toe-end shot later in the over chips a chunk of the bottom of the bat, a replacement is called in and Rizwan takes a single from it to end the powerplay.

  19. Not outpublished at 5 overs

    Pak 21-1

Prakash calls it correctly - it clipped the pad as Babar tried to turn Heyliger around the corner.

They check for lbw as well but no dice there either - the ball's heading down leg.

I think it is only the pad, I did not hear a woody sound.

But it is the Pakistan skipper so you don't blame Canada for having a go.
