  1. Umpire reviewpublished at 4.5 overs

    Has Babar gone without scoring?

Shreyas Movva certainly thinks so, he takes the catch behind the stumps and races off screaming.

No movement from the umpire, Canada are sending it upstairs.

The American stadium announcer here must be touting himself for some work as a boxing MC with some of his introductions of the players.

"Here comes Babar Azzzzzaaaaaammm" he enthusiastically shouts down the microphone.

The ball did not get up as much as Siam Ayub was expecting and it took an inside edge through to the keeper.

Siam was just trying to get things going. He is usually more aggressive than he was today.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.2 overs

    Ayub c Movva b Heyliger 6 (Pak 20-1)

But he won't score any more than six!

Saim Ayub tries an ugly cross-batted swipe to Dillon Heyliger's second delivery and the ball takes the edge of the bottom of the bat and flies through to Shreyas Movva behind the stumps.

    In comes captain Babar Azam.

  5. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 4 overs

    Pak 19-0

    That's a chance.

Saim Ayub hooks Jeremy Gordon's penultimate delivery and doesn't wholly get hold of it.

The ball loops towards Navneet Dhaliwal at short fine leg, who tries to take the grab running back, going for a leaping one-handed catch, but can't hold on.

The Pakistan opener survives on six.

Not a convincing innings so far from Rizwan.

  8. Pak 14-0published at 3 overs

    Target 107

A tad fortunate for Rizwan as his chop ricochets off the ground rather than the stumps and bounces over the keeper for a single.

Ayub then lifts Sana over the cover ring, but the ball slows on this sandy New York outfield and the Pakistan batters have to settle for two.

No boundaries off the bat yet and we're halfway through the powerplay.

  9. Pak 9-0published at 2 overs

    Target 107

Decent over from Jeremy Gordon who starts with five dot balls, his second rearing just past the gloves of Muhammad Rizwan.

The senior Pakistan opener retains the strike from the final ball, pushing toward mid-on.

  11. Pak 8-0published at 1 over

    Target 107

Saim Ayub inside edges onto his pad, although Sana goes up for the appeal on his own.

The Pakistan opener then picks up two runs to the left of cover.

  12. Pak 6-0published at 0.2 overs

Muhammad Rizwan gets a single straight away with an edge towards square leg, before Kaleem Sana sends his third ball down the leg-side and sees it run away to the boundary.

What we've seen on this pitch so far is anything can happen. Canada will look to defend this and Pakistan will have to learn from the mistakes they made against India.

    Thanks Tom.

I'm not sure anyone who's seen me in the field would say I have safe hands, but I suppose in an office environment I can just about be trusted.

The Pakistan openers Mohammad Rizwan and 22-year-old Saim Ayub, playing his first match at this tournament, are out in the middle. Kaleem Sana will open the bowling for Canada.

The Pakistan reply is imminent so it is time for me to take break. I will leave you in the safe hands of Mike Peter.

Here are some of the best bits from Aaron Johnson's innings. Without that knock, Canada would be in a real mess.

  17. 'My teammates push me to face the pace'published at 17:13 British Summer Time 11 June

Canada's Aaron Johnson: "My mentality is always to get the team off to a good start. My coaches tell me 'see the ball, hit the ball'. I have some Caribbean background in me, I've faced a lot of fast bowling. My team-mates push me to face the pace a lot more.

"Our bowling attack has been doing well for the last six months, hopefully we can get across the line today."

If Canada get to three figures they will win. Never seen such a poor Pakistan team - lacking leadership big time.

Pakistan are a quality team but if they start batting and lose early wickets the atmosphere will change quickly.

  20. Can 106-7published at 20 overs

After that spectacular shot from Kaleem Sana it is a rather muted end to the innings, with three singles nudging Canada up to 106-7.

I say it tentatively, but that is a job well done by Pakistan.

I remember saying that at the halfway stage against India though...
