Amir does the job. Lovely delivery.

Amir looked like he set him up there beautifully. He shaped the balls away and the last two he brought back. The batsman lost his feet and it hit the top of middle and off.

    Crunch!

That is a brilliant delivery from Mohammad Amir. It is pushing 88mph and shaping in to Navneet Dhaliwal, escaping through the gate and smashing into the top of middle stump.

    Pakistan needed that.

The boundary options have been from bad balls and not good ones.

  5. Can 20-0published at 2.1 overs

Early contender for shot of the day.

New bowler Mohammad Amir's first ball is full and wide, allowing Navneet Dhaliwal to drive gloriously through the covers.

Apart from the first two balls Naseem Shah looks in beautiful rhythm.

  7. Can 16-0published at 2 overs

Aaron Johnson is in the mood.

The Canada opener goes for a cut shot off Naseem Shah and despite being cramped for room has enough raw power to muscle it over point and away to the rope.

Nassem responds with a couple of fizzing deliveries that just beat the outside edge.

It looked like it was the right shot to play from Aaron Johnson he just mistimed it. It's a great start here for Canada.

Couple of fours early on and it changes the momentum completely.

  9. Can 11-0published at 1 overs

Aaron Johnson nearly makes it three straight boundaries but his drive is not quite timed and the ball is clawed back just before the rope.

A scrambled leg-bye completes a very encouraging first over for Canada.

Not the start Pakistan wanted as they look to get that India defeat out of their system.

That's the kind of start Canada would've wanted.

  11. Can 8-0published at 0.2 overs

    What start for Canada!

Shaheen Shah Afridi's first ball is a full toss on leg stump that Aaron Johnson gleefully powers wide of mid-on for four.

The next delivery is brilliant straight drive past mid-off to the rope. Afridi is going for the in-swinging yorker but his radar is off so far.

Pakistan have very skilful seamers and I'm always excited to see them bowl.

Another brilliant cricketing nugget from my colleague Timothy there.

The sun is beaming down in New York as the players take to the field to a rousing rendition of the respective national anthems.

We've talked a lot about how far cricket dates back in the US during this tournament - but their north American neighbours Canada also has a long history of the game.

The earliest reference to cricket in country is in 1785 when games are reported to have taken place in Montreal.

Canada's first prime minister, John Macdonald, declared cricket the country's first official sport in 1867.

This is the second time that Canada will face Pakistan in a men's T20 international. The last time they met was in a four-team tournament in Ontario also featuring Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe back in 2008.

Pakistan won that game by 35 runs thanks to 74 from Salman Butt. Their team also included the likes of Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and Shoaib Akhtar.

Not sure Canada's kit from that time won any awards...

Canada skipper Saad Bin Zafar: "We would have bowled first as well. It looks a fresh wicket. But historically teams batting second struggle to chase, so if we put a good total on the board we back ourselves to defend it.

"We have been playing good cricket so far. It is about being consistent. It is a must win game for Pakistan so if we can put runs on the board the pressure will be on them."

  19. Postpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 11 June

Pakistan captain Babar Azam: "It's a morning match and there's a little bit of moisture on it (the pitch). But the sun is out so we want to bat second innings, but we need to be more consistent in the first six overs.

"We have had a discussion (about the India defeat) but we are now looking forward because in T20 you don't have much time and have to focus on the next match. We have no other option. We need to win this match."
