Did they even need a second leg-spinner?

Rehan Ahmed gives himself some room to try and play through the off side but the ball skids through and knocks back middle stump!

The Rockets are in a right pickle.

A decent day for Will Jacks so far.

Will Jacks holds his nerve out in the deep. He was aware of the boundary rope and Nathan Sowter removes Joe Root who was trying to take on the spin bowling, as the Rockets have started to fall behind the rate.

Well, he tried to get a move on.

Joe Root's stuttering innings comes to an end for 10 from 13 balls as he picks out Will Jacks at long-on, who takes a well-judged catch just inside the boundary rope.

You don't want to fly all the way from Australia to bowl 20 balls and get carted around the ground, do you? No pressure.

Oval Invincibles will be happy with that powerplay.

They haven't taken a wicket but have kept the run rate under control.

    That's more like it.

Too short from Tom Curran and pulled firmly for four by Tom Banton.

We often talk about one of the batters being the 'busy batter', the player that is willing to take the game on, not afraid to take the bowler on, willing to run up and down and be aggressive.

That allows Joe Root to play his natural game, so I do think Tom Banton could be busier out in the middle right now.

Smart bowling from Sam Curran, immediately taking the pace off the ball.

    Joe Root is getting frustrated.

Trent Rockets only want to be one man down at the end of this powerplay, at least. If they are two or three men down, they will struggle and it will be an uphill battle.

Oooh, Joe Root tries the reverse scoop but gets a lucky edge past the stumps instead.

Tom Banton takes over and whacks the next ball for a one-bounce four. The Rockets need a few more of those, especially with Root struggling to get going.

Saqib Mahmood will be looking to hit the seam here. He is very skilful with the new ball, he gets good pace off it as well.

Oval Invincibles do have a very handy bowling line-up.

Saqib Mahmood was the star of last year's final with 3-17 as the Invincibles defended a much lower total of 147-9.

He starts nicely here too, just three singles taken.

Jason Behrendorff has eight powerplay wickets this year - no bowler has more.

Only one player has ever taken more wickets in the first phase in a single edition of The Hundred - Dan Worrall for London Spirit in 2023 took nine wickets in the powerplay.

The powerplay is going to be absolutely crucial for Trent Rockets, but you don't mind having Joe Root there at the crease.

It feels like he is going to be the glue for the innings, if he's the superglue then he might even win it for Trent Rockets.

If there's a man who can win it, it's got to be Joe Root - but he will need the others to come to the party as well.

A streak of luck for Tom Banton!

Edged just past his stumps and past the keeper for four.

The opening partnership of Joe Root and Tom Banton is going to be crucial for this run chase. They really need to make most of the powerplay to make a dent in this total.
