This is only the second time Alice Capsey has taken two wickets in an ODI innings in her career. The previous instance was against South Africa in Potchefstroom in 2023 which was also the last ODI where she bowled in. In her first 19 ODIs, she had just three wickets at an average of 38.7, but has taken four wickets at 17.7 in her next three ODIs.

  2. Aus 150-5published at 30 overs

It has been a good 10 minutes for the English in Melbourne with that wicket coming at the same time Emma Raducanu took the first set in her Australian Open opener.

Is there a better sporting city?

At first glance it looked like it was not out. All of a sudden the Aussies are in a hole, Alice Capsey has turned it around for the English.

  5. Aus 149-5published at 29 overs

Tahlia McGrath is Australia's next batter so there's no need for them to panic.

That was a wicket maiden for Alice Capsey.

It blows my mind that they didn't use Alice Capsey on Sunday.

Alice Capsey dropped a chance off her first ball. Since then she has taken the two huge wickets of Annabel Sutherland and Ellyse Perry.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 01:09 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

    Perry lbw b Capsey 60 (Aus 149-5)

Huge. After a lot of replays the third umpire - probably fairly - deems there's no bat and after that it's very straight.

Three reds mean the great Ellyse Perry is out. She had looked imperious.

I think you could take 100 looks at this and have 100 different answers.

Perry's bat has hit her pad. The third umpire is trying to decide if she hit the ball too.

Perry is a long way down but it shouldn't be bouncing over.

This is a big wicket if she's out.

    Have England got Ellyse Perry?

They like the look of this lbw shout.

England will be happy with this fightback but the fact remains Ellyse Perry is in good nick and Ash Gardner is their nemesis.

  17. Aus 149-4published at 28 overs

    Perry 60, Gardner 1

England are interested again as Ash Gardner's foot briefly leaves the crease and Amy Jones whips off the bails. Gardner, who scored a crucial 42 in Sydney, has just got her boot back over the line.

    Ellyse Perry still looks good...

Spin is working here for England. Great grab from Heather Knight, she never misses those. They'll think that they're right in the game now.

Ash Gardner arrives with the innings in the balance.

The breakthrough for England as Perry was on the attack and that is a screamer.
