This is incredible. Can the Netherlands do it again?

    Markram b Edwards c Kingma 0 (SA 3-3)

There is definitely bat on that tickle from Markram, but there were some question marks from the umpires over whether the catch from Edwards was clean or not.

    It was!

South Africa are 3-3 in New York and the Netherlands are causing all sorts of problems.

What a start for the Dutch.

    THIS. IS. GETTING. EXCITING.

    SA 3-2

    Another one!

The attempted shot from Markram is tickled down the leg side, Edwards takes the catch.

But did that hit bat or pad?

    SA 3-2

That was jammed into the ground. South Africa survive.

  6. Netherlands reviewpublished at 2.2 overs

    SA 3-2

Netherlands think they have a wicket here. A bit of uncertainty, but they take it upstairs.

There's a catch from Edwards, but it did Markram's shot hit the ground first or not?

  7. SA 3-2published at 2 overs

It is a maiden over too from Van Beek, with a wicket coming from it.

Captain Aiden Markram almost certainly would not have expected to be facing the first ball of the second innings about 10 minutes ago.

Logan van Beek celebrates the wicket of Reeza HendricksImage source, Getty Images

It is a wonderful delivery. He squares him up and hits the top of off stump. You don't get much better than that as a seam bowler.

    Hendricks b Van Beek 3 (SA 3-2)

Wow! A brilliant start for the Netherlands.

Logan van Beek's first over has been excellent. Three dot balls start the over and the fourth one cleans up Hendricks, who could not get settled after his mix-up with De Kock caused a first-ball wicket.

That broke through the defences of Hendricks and flew into the bails on the top of off and middle stumps.

Excellent, excellent bowling from Van Beek.

    Chaos.

    Absolute chaos.

  11. SA 3-1published at 1 over

A brilliant start for the Dutch. Kingma starts the innings with five dot balls, including that run out mix-up in the first.

A drilled shot through the offside from Hendricks in the last almost finds four, but is stopped well before the rope by Bas de Leede.

The batters have so much experience but there was a lack of communication there.

  13. wicket

De Kock run out (Van Meekeren) 0 (SA 0-1)

    Never say never!

As first balls go in an innings, from a South Africa perspective, that could not have gone any worse.

Reeza Hendricks looked to work Viv Kingma's opening delivery away for a single.

Quniton de Kock ran, but Hendricks hardly moved.

By the time he did, it was far too late, De Kock was almost at the other end.

Van Meekeren throws to Kingma, who runs De Kock out with ease without De Kock facing a ball.

We'll come back to a bit more on New York and Baseball shortly.

For now, the second innings is about to start and South Africa need 104 at a rate of just 5.2 an over.

This however has been the World Cup of shocks.

    Never say never...

    Timothy Abraham
BBC Sport at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York

In 1870 in Chicago there was actually an attempt to create an innovative hybrid game between baseball and cricket. Matches were played using normal cricket equipment on a triangular-shaped field with one set of stumps pitched and two bases 28 yards apart.

The laws were modified (no lbws, for example). "The prominent and attractive features of both the English game of cricket and the American pastime of baseball are taken and rolled into one, thereby making a magnificent game," the Philadelphia Mercury triumphantly at the time.

Alas, it did not appear to catch on in the US. Although anyone familiar with 'Welsh baseball' may recognise a few similarities.

The Test Match Special team took an excursion to watch a baseball game last night.

The New York Yankees lost 2-1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in what was, by all accounts, not exactly a thrilling match. Still the Yankee Stadium is to tick off the bucket list, though.

    Thanks, Ffion!

On paper, a 104 target should be relatively comfortably for this power-hitting South Africa side to knock off.

But can they lift the curse that the Dutch have held over them in recent years to strengthen their position at the top of Group D?

    We will find out shortly.

Right, that's me done for a bit. Well, until the small matter of England v Australia starts in under an hour's time.

Here's Jonty Colman to take you through South Africa's chase.

Ottniel Baartman is the standout with figures of 4-11, with three of them coming in the final over, but South Africa were set up brilliantly by Marco Jansen with the ball and in the field.

The Netherlands innings never got going after that.
