Somerset 18-0 - target 195 to beat Hampshire

WILD from Sonny Baker first up as he slings in a short and wide one which flies away down the leg side for four byes.

    Adrenaline perhaps, given the occasion?

Tom Kohler-Cadmore (I'm calling him TKC from now on to save my fingers, ok?) slashes one away towards deep point for a single to get off the mark and bring Will Smeed back onto strike to time one beautifully through the gap in the covers which sends James Vince sprinting after it and then sliding into the boundary in vain. He's holding his knee, but he should be ok.

Baker responds by drawing a play and a miss with an 88mph ball which shapes away from the right-hander who then carves a couple to deep point to move to 12*.

12 off the over from Baker, who did seem to settle down a bit.

If you could help us find our mascot Hawky please! We seem to have lost him.

    From Hampshire Cricket Content Team

Sorry?! Anyone seen Hawky in the Edgbaston area?

The Hampshire bowlers have the benefit of looking at what worked for the Somerset bowlers in the first innings.

They kept the pace on throughout the first six overs of the powerplay and got hammered all over the place because of it.

Already it looks like Chris Wood is altering his pace each delivery.

Bit of swing for Chris Wood, the first ball in, the second away from Will Smeed.

Ball three is absolutely larruped through the covers for four but Wood responds by beating the edge with a fine slower ball and then again with one with a bit more zip.

The final ball is clipped towards long leg for a couple by Smeed who is 6*.

Sonny Baker will take the second over.

  5. SOMERSET BEGIN RECORD CHASEpublished at 20:26 BST 13 September

    Somerset v Hampshire 194-6

Right, here we go then... will it be a record fourth title for Hampshire, or a record-equalling third for Somerset.

Will Smeed and Tom Kohler-Cadmore stride out to the middle.

TKC made 81 in the semi earlier... he is 99 runs shy of Toby Albert in the scoring standings this season... he couldn't, could he?

Let's find out... Chris Wood takes the new ball.

  7. 'It's a very good score by Hampshire'published at 20:25 BST 13 September

    Keith Barker
Hampshire all-rounder on BBC Radio Solent

It's going to be an interesting finish. Hopefully it doesn't come down to the last ball, I don't fancy that kind of stress.

It's a very good score by Hampshire and Somerset will have to start well if they want a chance of winning this game in my eyes.

  8. 'Somerset are going to have to bat out of their skins'published at 20:22 BST 13 September

    Somerset v Hampshire 194-6

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

It's daunting but all is not lost I think. If Somerset can get off to a fast start, if Will Smeed and Tom Kohler-Cadmore can fire, then Somerset will still be in business.

    But it's a big ask.

Somerset are going to have to bat out of their skins to chase this down. It's not the 200 or the 200 plus that we were fearing at one stage in this innings when Toby Albert and James Vince were going so strongly.

  9. HAMPSHIRE SET SOMERSET 195 TO WINpublished at 20 overs

    Somerset v Hampshire 194-6

Seven off the final over and Hampshire Hawks post 193-6 after Ali Orr is run out coming back for a second from the final ball.

He scored three with Benny Howell unbeaten on 26 and Jake Ball finishing with 2-39 to keep the Hawks under 200.

This will need to be the highest ever run chase in a Blast final... by 20 runs...

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 19.4 overs

    Mayes lbw b Ball 9 (Somerset v Hampshire 191-5)

Jake Ball opens up with a wide before Benny Howell cracks straight to backward point for a single.

A misfield from Will Smeed allows Ben Mayes two runs to deep mid-wicket before a slower ball beats the bat.

Ball wants lbw against Mayes as he tries a reverse shot towards third, which appears to come off the pads... not out says the umpire Michael Gough, but Somerset want a review. It's a good one. Pitching in line. Hitting the wicket. He's out.

Two balls to go and Ali Orr is on strike.

    Somerset v Hampshire 186-4

Great running allows Benny Howell two runs from Ben Green's first ball before he smashes the next deep into the stand past the long-on rope.

He didn't need to move a muscle outside of his arms and shoulders.

A slower ball beats the bat for a useful dot for Green and then a full ball on leg costs just a single as Howell reaches 25* from 18 balls.

Ben Mayes paddles the next ball, a shorter, slower one, to the rope in Toby Albert-fashion, getting it past Jake Ball at short third.

14 off the over, useful runs for Hampshire.

175 is the highest chase in the history of the Blast.

Somerset will have to beat it.

Benny Howell on strike for the final over from Jake Ball.

These are the real pressure moments now.

Can Somerset keep Hampshire under 200 and physiologically keep themselves in the game?

  15. Postpublished at 18 overs

    Somerset v Hampshire 172-4

Tom Abell does well to get his left hand down to deny Benny Howell a boundary after almost over-running the ball.

Ben Mayes gets off the mark with a couple of singles while Howell moves to 16 from 14 balls as he skies one just short of Abell in the deep.

Just six runs off the over, and a wicket. Gregory ends with 1-29 from four overs.

Great recovery from Somerset. Ben Green will bowl the penultimate over.

  16. 'A great knock by Albert'published at 20:03 BST 13 September

    Somerset v Hampshire 166-4

    Keith Barker
Hampshire all-rounder on BBC Radio Solent

It's been a great knock by Toby Albert, really good work.

Very well bowled by Lewis Gregory. He's very experienced, he's done quite well over the years for Somerset in all formats.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.1 overs

    Albert b Gregory 85 - Somerset v Hampshire 166-4

Lewis Gregory bowls his first ball on the top of off stump, Toby Albert steps away to cut away but is fooled by the pace off and sees his bails go flying.

85 from 48 balls and some superb shots. The leading scorer in this year's competition.

Ben Mayes, the 17-year-old, is the new batter. No pressure, lad.

We've had 36 sixes so far today.

Pretty much all of them have been middled!

  19. Postpublished at 17 overs

    Somerset v Hampshire 166-3

Another unorthodox reverse from Toby Albert brings a boundary to third off the opening ball of Jake Ball's third over and he picks up a couple from the next ball to move to 80*.

ANOTHER boundary to that third man boundary follows from a low full toss on leg stump before a very short and slow ball from Ball limits him to a single.

Benny Howell middles one over deep square for six, though Sean Dickson was inches away from a spectacular catch on the rope, just running out of room.

17 come off the over as Albert sends Howell back from a single as he wants strike. He is on 85* from 47 balls.

  20. 'Terrific stuff from Albert'published at 20:00 BST 13 September

Terrific stuff from Toby Albert. He's gonna put himself in the shop window for franchise cricket coming up.

    Wonderful stats this year.
