Summary

  1. wicket

WICKET Haynes c&b Walter 8published at 11:34 British Summer Time 12 September

    Essex 457 v Notts 93 & 217-5

Notts still trail by 147 runs. The hopes of avoiding an innings defeat is fading fast.

Paul Walter bowls a full ball just outside leg stump and Jack Haynes doesn't open the bat face enough and balloons it back at the bowler.

A very ugly wicket, but you get no points for aesthetics.

  2. Postpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 12 September

    Somerset 317 & 220-9 v Surrey 321

Shakib Al Hasan is purposefully spearing deliveries at the base of Tom Banton's stumps.

Banton responds with a reverse sweep for four! He moves to 45.

    Somerset lead by 216.

    Somerset 317 & 215-9 v Surrey 321

There's been plenty of last-pair heroics down the years in this beautiful game - but not many last-trio heroics.

Runner Tom Lammonby playing his part for Somerset too, don't forget.

  4. Postpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 12 September

    Somerset 317 & 215-9 v Surrey 321

Tom Banton somehow survives Shakib Al Hasan's 28th over which costs just a Craig Overton single.

The Bangladesh all-rounder certainly made life uncomfortable for the Somerset man.

Two singles off Dan Worrall takes Overton to 47, while Banton goes to 41.

Three from the over and the lead is 211.

With more showers in the forecast, could we be in for an unlikely declaration?

  5. wicket

WICKET Bell-Drummond lbw Abbas 23published at 11:28 British Summer Time 12 September

    Kent 207 & 112-3 v Hampshire 403

Daniel Bell-Drummond is distraught that he has been given out.

Mo Abbas has nipped one in, and with Ben Brown standing up to the stumps, there is little footwork from Bell-Drummond.

The ball was hitting in line and almost certainly going on to hit the stumps, but there may have been an inside edge - based on the batter's reaction.

No reviews in the County Championship and Kent are three down.

  6. 100 runs

Century for Will Rhodespublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 12 September

    Worcestershire 307, Warwickshire 128 & 206-3

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at Worcester

Will Rhodes completes his third century of the season.

And all of them have been against the Kookaburra ball.

178 at the start of the season, 201 last month against Kent - and now this one too.

His end-of-season departure to Durham will be a big loss to the Bears.

  7. Postpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 12 September

    Gloucs 51-2 - target 234

Double bowling change at Lord's with Tom Helm and Henry Brookes replacing new ball bowlers, Toby Roland-Jones and Ryan Higgins.

Ollie Price carves a Brookes ball through cover point for four and the Gloucester 50 comes in the next over when Miles Hammond pulls a short, leg side ball from Helm over square leg for six.

That's 50 runs in 13.2 overs. Game on.

  8. Lancashire fading fastpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 12 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 228 & 200-8

Anderson Phillip takes advantage of a leg side delivery from Callum Parkinson, glancing that away for four to bring up the 200 in 61.1 overs.

But there's really not much to write home about for Lancashire this morning.

Their realistic hopes of a draw have been dashed in one over from Matt Potts, taking three wickets in four balls.

  9. Postpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 12 September

    Kent 207 & 102-2 v Hampshire 403

Kent's deficit is into double figures.

Those two early wickets haven't begun a deluge, in fact, Daniel Bell-Drummond finding his rhythm nicely.

The Kent skipper strikes a trio of boundaries off a Kyle Abbott over.

  10. Postpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 12 September

    Somerset 317 & 211-9 v Surrey 321

Two singles are taken from Shakib Al Hasan's latest over.

Dan Worrall continues and Craig Overton picks up a leg bye from the first ball.

Worrall spears in a good yorker at the immobile Tom Banton and the batter does well to get bat on it.

An outside edge, a shy at the stumps and Banton gets one more to take his total to 40.

Overton drives up to Jordan Clark at long on to move within six of a half-century.

The last two partnerships have now been worth 89.

  11. wicket

WICKET Bailey c Borthwick b Potts 0published at 11:17 British Summer Time 12 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 228 & 195-8

Tom Bailey gets forward to survive the hat trick ball but now he's gone for a second-ball duck.

Matt Potts has seven in the innings and ten in the match.

Bailey is in the crease with a loose waft, edging low to Scott Borthwick at first slip.

    Anderson Phillip is in next.

  12. 'This is the most important day for Somerset in five years'published at 11:16 British Summer Time 12 September

    Somerset 317 & 208-9 v Surrey 321

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

There's a decent crowd in here, more than you would normally see on a fourth day here and there's a good reason for that.

I think this is the most important day for Somerset cricket in the last five years since they were challenging for the County Championship.

  13. Postpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 12 September

    Kent 207 & 93-2 v Hampshire 403

That isn't something Kent want to see.

Kyle Abbott has been unerringly accurate this morning but the pitch has suggested he is going to have another weapon in his arsenal.

A delivery on a length has lept up at Daniel Bell-Drummond and taken the shoulder of the bat. It falls safe but Hampshire will enjoy seeing that.

  14. wicket

WICKET Hartley b Potts 0published at 11:14 British Summer Time 12 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 228 & 195-7

Matt Potts celebratesImage source, Getty Images

First ball! Matt Potts is on a hat trick!

He has 6-51 and the Red Rose are wilting fast.

Horrible leave from Tom Hartley, who sees his off stump ripped out.

    Tom Bailey is in next.

  15. wicket

WICKET Iyer b Potts 28published at 11:13 British Summer Time 12 September

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 228 & 195-6

Venkatesh Iyer has gone for a bright and breezy 28, inside edging Matt Potts into his stumps.

It's not an amicable departure from the field as he clearly has something to say to the fielders before departing.

Iyer had been worked over with some short balls before getting a fuller ball outside off and he's perished with a miscued flashing drive from the crease.

    Tom Hartley is in next.

    Potts has 5-51.

  16. Somerset lead passes 200published at 11:13 British Summer Time 12 September

    Somerset 317 & 206-9 v Surrey 321

Tom Banton is incapable of foot movement but Dan Worrall serves one up outside off stump and he gaccepts the gift.

He drives past Rory Burns to the cover boundary for four to move to 38 and bring up the fifty partnership with Craig Overton.

It also takes the Somerset lead past 200 - a benchmark they would have targeted I'm sure.

It’s not surprising to see Tom Banton batting despite the injury. Somerset have never won the Championship (Surrey have won it 21 times). If I was a neutral I know who I’d want to win this game.

Tony (Somerset fan and definitely not a neutral)

  18. Postpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 12 September

    Essex 457 v Notts 93 & 207-4

Four overs from Sam Cook this morning before Jamie Porter replaces him.

Two wickets for the Little Chef which takes him to 38 scalps in an injury-hit season.

You fancy Cook and Porter to share one end, with Simon Harmer twirling away at the other, for much of today.

  19. Postpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 12 September

    Gloucs 31-2 - target 234

Toby Roland-Jones is bowling well without reward so far this morning, getting a ball to cut back and seam over the top of the stumps, bowling to Gloucester number three Ollie Price.

    Maiden over.

Miles Hammond is forward to Ryan Higgins driving through the off side but without clearing cover.

He'll get off the mark this time though, moving across the stumps to tickle a leg side ball round the corner for four.

  20. 200 runs

200 up for Somersetpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 12 September

    Somerset 317 & 201-9 v Surrey 321

A thick outside edge gives Tom Banton another single to move into the 30s.

Craig Overton drives to mid-on and a scampered run - not by Banton of course.

Banton then tickles Shakib's last ball around the corner and they run hard to take three runs. The lead is 197.
