He's going at nearly a run a ball here.

  3. Title clash back under waypublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Somerset 317 & 195-4 v Surrey 321

    Poor old Tom Banton.

It looked a real Herculean effort to hobble out to the middle at the start of play, just for two balls, before having to make his way back again.

Now he has to do it all over again - this time with Taunton bathed in sunshine.

Dan Worrall to continue with his 14th over of the innings, Banton on strike.

  4. wicket

WICKET Bancroft LBW b Higgins 15published at 11:02 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Gloucs 25-2 - target 234

Four runs to Cameron Bancroft with a fortuitous edge wide of third slip and through to third man.

Frustration for bowler and captain Toby Roland-Jones.

Ollie Price angles a ball from Ryan Higgins away to backward point but opts against the single.

He'll get runs here though, with a nicely timed push past Higgins and down the ground for three.

Bancroft is hit on the pad going forward to defend and the LBW shout is turned down.

Must have been close. On or just outside off stump.

    Got him this time!

Similar delivery on a length, cutting back a bit further and striking the knee roll.

    Miles Hammond is in next.

  5. All calm at Worcesterpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Worcestershire 307, Warwickshire 128 & 186-3

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at Worcester

Half an hour gone at New Road. And, thankfully for Warwickshire, no repeat of yesterday morning's mayhem.

Will Rhodes, 72 overnight, has now gone on to 84 to register the highest score of the match.

Hamza Shaikh, the only Bears player to take guard twice yesterday, has made a watchful 4.

  6. Postpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Kent 207 & 79-2 v Hampshire 403

The whole Hampshire slip cordon make a "Y" with their arms as if the Village People had turned up at Canterbury.

Mo Abbas had crashed one into Daniel Bell-Drummond's pads.

Doesn't look a terrible shout but would fancy that to be missing the leg stump, even if Bell-Drummond is staggering across his stumps.

  7. Postpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Worcestershire 307 v Warwickshire 128 & 185-3

Quiet start at Worcester where Warwickshire are closing in on leading the game for the first time, just six runs behind.

Will Rhodes is 16 runs short of his century, unbeaten on 84.

50 for Matty Hurstpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 228 & 178-5

His second 50 of the match.

Can he bat out the day?

He gets to 50 with a nicely timed push through backward point on the back foot off the bowling of Matt Potts.

    94 balls with six fours.

  9. Postpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Gloucs 18-1 - target 234

Cameron Bancroft gets a bit of width and steers the ball safley past the slips for three.

Good fielding from Luke Hollman, picking the ball up just inside the rope.

Ryan Higgins delivers the first no ball of the innings but then produces a couple of beauties to beat the outside edge of the bat as Bancroft is forward to defend.

    Definite seam movement there.

The fourth delivery is pushed away between the slips and gully for four.

An LBW shout is turned down as the umpire calls a no ball.

    Pity.

Right in front of off stump as Bancroft misses with a forward block.

WICKET Compton c Albert b Abbott 25published at 10:52 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Kent 207 & 72-2 v Hampshire 403

A "c Albert b Abbott" for the second time this morning.

This time Kyle Abbott comes around the wicket andangles one into the left-handed Ben Compton.

Compton kind of has to play at it, but his hands aren't convinced. They go hard at it and it helps the ball to second slip.

  11. Play to resume at Tauntonpublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Somerset 317 & 195-4 v Surrey 321

The match will restart at 11:05 BST so long as no more showers scud across the ground.

    We've lost eight overs.

  12. Covers coming off at Tauntonpublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Somerset 317 & 195-4 v Surrey 321

    Good news!

The Somerset groundstaff have removed the sheets protecting the square, folding them like they're putting away washed bedding.

Then the matting covering the wicket - not your conventional covers - is carefully rolled up and a milky sunlight washes across the ground.

The umpires have had a look - we should have play soon.

  13. wicket

WICKET Clarke c Harmer b Cook 67published at 10:50 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Essex 457 v Notts 93 & 194-4

Someone should really ban buckets in the slips...oh wait those are just Simon Harmer's hands.

Sam Cook goes bang-bang in back-to-back overs as Joe Clarke pushes at one on the back foot and edges to second slip.

Harmer completes the wicket with a stunning grab while diving left and backwards.

    Notts in allsorts again.

  14. Postpublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Gloucs 6-1 - target 234

Good lift and carry from Toby-Roland Jones, getting the ball to bounce at shoulder height to Ollie Price.

Just a couple of runs off that over.

Cameron Bancroft is forward to Ryan Higgins to glance to leg for one.

A maximum of 92 overs left in this match.

  15. Postpublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Durham 573-9 dec v Lancs 228 & 169-5

Venkatesh Iyer is off to a bright start, with a lofted drive past spinner Callum Parkinson and through long off for four.

In the air for a while but the ball lands safely.

He gets off strike with a reverse sweep for one.

Eight runs off the over in all.

  16. wicket

WICKET Hameed lbw Cook 105published at 10:43 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Essex 457 v Notts 93 & 185-3

Haseeb Hameed leans across his stumps and misses a straight one from Sam Cook.

That looks very adjacent to me.

A shame as that was a pretty special captain's innings from Hameed after the morning collapse.

Notts still need 179 runs to make Essex bat again.

Somerset v Surrey is a match with a beautiful narrative. If, God forbid, this is the point where Surrey stuff up their campaign, I'll still smile when I think (through gritted teeth) about that half hour listening to Banton, on one leg, playing merry havoc with the way Things Ought to Go.

  18. 'We might get more of these short sharp showers'published at 10:37 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Somerset 317 & 195-9 v Surrey 321

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

I think we might get a few more of these short, sharp showers during the course of the day.

The groundstaff are coming on in a hurry.

I don't think this shower is going to last very long and neither do the players.

Matt Potts strikes with the second over of the day!

Angled in to George Balderson, who plays from the crease and the ball strikes the pad in front of middle and leg.

    Venkatesh Iyer to bat next.

    Lancashire in the mire.

  20. wicket

WICKET Charlesworth LBW b Higgins 0published at 10:36 British Summer Time 12 September 2024

    Gloucs 0-1 - target 234

A maiden to start with for Toby-Roland Jones, though there might have been byes but for a brilliant leg side take by keeper Jack Davies off one delivery.

No early evidence of seam movement so far.

Ryan Higgins will share the new ball and he's bowling with enough width outside off for Ben Charlesworth to leave the ball.

The third ball jags in from round the wicket on a length and he's gone!

Kept a bit low. Looked pretty adjacent to middle and no inside edge.

The Gloucester number three is Ollie Price.
