That's huge! That is pure timing. A pickup flick backwards over leg square. That's gone miles. They need a new ball!

  2. 6 runs

    Invincibles 49-0published at 23 balls

Fire need a breakthrough here or they could be in deep trouble.

Will Jacks now get his first six as he launches Matt Henry over the mid-wicket and he's hit it out of the ground.

The Invincibles bat so deep and with so much power. Tawanda Muyeye has nice clips and power. He's a great timer of the ball.

  4. Invincibles 39-0published at 20 balls

Ajeet Singh Dale's first set is an expensive one and it goes for 15 runs in his The Hundred bow!

The fast bowler sends one down the leg for five extras before Will Jacks hits him, one bounce over the rope, through cover for another boundary.

Invincibles could not have wished for a better start.

  5. Invincibles 28-0published at 16 balls

Gloucestershire's right-arm fast bowler Ajeet Singh Dale is making his debut in The Hundred today.

But his first ball goes for a boundary - Tawanda Muyeye slamming him over mid-wicket for his first four after the two sixes from the last set.

Tawanda Muyeye had to do something to try and disrupt the line and length of these opening Fire bowlers and he's done that perfectly. He gets across to the offside, gives himself room and just scoops it up. Executed beautifully.

  7. 6 runs

    Invincibles 24-0published at 15 balls

A first six of the innings and it comes from the bat of Tawanda Muyeye.

The Zimbabwean improvises as he steps across the wicket and scoops the ball very fine and over the boundary rope.

He then slams David Payne over his head, with the ball clearing the rope again for back-to-back maximums.

Pure power from Will Jacks. Not great timing but he bullied it. The ball slid over the face, not particularly going where Jacks wanted it to. He's such a unit, so powerful, if he gets anything on it, it just goes for a boundary.

  9. Invincibles 10-0published at 10 balls

Matt Henry takes the ball from the other end and is greeted with a brilliant drive by Will Jacks for the first boundary of the game.

The New Zealand fast bowler then produces an outside edge off Jacks but the ball races away to the boundary through the slip cordon.

Good comeback from Henry as he finishes with three dot balls.

  10. Invincibles 2-0published at 5 balls

    It's missing by miles.

Not a great start for stand-in Fire captain Jonny Bairstow as they waste a review.

There was a little bit of swing there though. Welsh Fire have got something to work with.

David Payne hits the pads of Will Jacks from the second ball and there is a huge appeal from the Fire bowler.

But the umpires says no and Jonny Bairstow is reviewing this one.

David Payne takes the ball for Fire and Will Jacks offers a strong defence off the first ball.

The Oval Invincibles opening pair are the two form batters this summer - nobody has scored more T20 runs in England and Wales in 2025 than Jacks (605) and Muyeye (592).

Invincibles openers Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye emerged through the fireworks and walks out to the middle.

We are now moments away before the action gets under way at The Oval.

  16. 'Very happy batting first'published at 18:00 British Summer Time 16 August

Oval Invincibles captain Sam Billings on batting first: "I never give away what I would have chosen. I wasn't too sure today so I'm not too unhappy about having to put a score on the board first. Surrey have done that a lot this season as well, so Sam Curran is very happy batting first.

"I think whenever you get 140 or 150 on a used pitch you're well in the game. You don't want to go too hard and lose wickets early because then you struggle to get to 130 or 140 and you're out of the game."

  17. 'Abell out with a niggle'published at 17:59 British Summer Time 16 August

Welsh Fire captain Jonny Bairstow speaking to BBC Sport on team news: "Tom [Abell] is fine. He has picked up a little bit of a niggle so it's just a bit of safety for him from that point of view. We don't expect him to be out for too long.

"Riley Meredith misses out through a little niggle as well, so Matt Henry comes in for him. Ajeet Singh Dale comes in for Josh Hull."

  18. How did the women's game go?published at 17:56 British Summer Time 16 August

Alice Capsey whacked her second half-century in this year's edition of The Hundred as Invincibles eased to a 40-run win over winless Fire in the women's competition.

Capsey's 55 off 34 balls featured seven fours and one six as she provided the backbone of the Invincibles' imposing total of 150-6.

Set the highest chase in the women's tournament at The Oval - and the fourth highest overall - Fire lost the dangerous Matthews early on for 12.

Sophia Dunkley carried the charge and looked well poised to make a fist of it with a knock of 56 off 41 balls.

But when she chipped Sophia Smale into the hands of Phoebe Franklin at long-off with the score on 90-6 and 29 balls Fire's hopes were effectively extinguished.

Welsh Fire will have to believe they have enough to put Oval Invincibles under pressure today.

In my opinion, Oval Invincibles are the best team in the competition. They have every corner covered and they have got players on the bench that they can call upon that fit the bill as well.

Welsh Fire will have to believe that they can put Oval Invincibles under pressure and maybe they will crack near the end of this one, as they did the other night.

Men's standings of The HundredImage source, BBC Sport

Oval Invincibles will look to go top of the men's standings with a win tonight.

They currently trail top two Northern Superchargers and Trent Rockets by four points and have a healthier net run rate.

The Invincibles have won two of their three games so far this season - against Manchester Originals and London Spirit - before losing their most recent fixture against Birmingham Phoenix.

Welsh Fire, meanwhile, sit sixth with only one win from three outings. They are tied on four points with bottom two sides Originals and Phoenix.
