    Warks v Sussex 483-7

John Simpson pulls the ball away along the ground to the fielder on the mid-wicket boundary to get us under way with a single after lunch and then Danny Lamb hits the long-leg rope for four.

Warwickshire have posted boundary riders on both sides of the wicket now but the words stable door, horse and bolted spring to mind.

Essex recommenced on 356-4 and made the lunch interval on a healthy 466-4, with an undefeated fifth-wicket partnership of 148 between Matt Critchley and Michael Pepper.Critchley notched up his 10th first-class century in a patient 210 balls, ably partnered by his Essex keeper, Pepper, on 70 not out.Surrey have shared out the bowling, but also tried to be miserly, with Jordan Clark (0-71) the most economic.

Surrey’s overseas bowler, Kemar Roach (2-70), has been the most productive so far, with two of the four Essex wickets to fall.Essex will be looking to continue and just bat just the once!

  5. 'Total domination'published at 13:29 British Summer Time 5 April

    Lunch: Somerset 318-4 v Worcs 154

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Total domination from Somerset in the morning session.

The Worcestershire bowling was initially tidy, but after James Rew was dropped on 30 off Ben Allison, he and Tom Banton cut loose to set a new fifth-wicket partnership record for Somerset v Worcestershire.

Banton is in complete control on an increasingly flat pitch.

  6. 'Pretty much perfect for Kent'published at 13:28 British Summer Time 5 April

    Lunch: Northamptonshire 143 v Kent 231 & 60-0

Pretty much the perfect morning session for Kent.

They were looking to polish off Northamptonshire's first innings swiftly, and did just that by claiming the last three wickets - including the vital one of Rob Keogh - in the first 40 minutes to claim a lead of 88.

Then openers Zak Crawley (pictured) and Ben Compton made untroubled progress through to lunch, extending Kent's advantage to 148 without being parted.

The straw for Northamptonshire to clutch at might be the fact that the pitch looks to be flattening out a bit.

  7. 'They've made batting look the easiest thing in the world'published at 13:25 British Summer Time 5 April

    Lunch: Somerset 318-4 v Worcestershire 154

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

It has been a morning of records as Somerset have piled on the runs.

Tom Banton’s 154 not out is his highest first-class score and his partnership with James Rew of 178 is Somerset’s highest for the fifth wicket against Worcestershire.

The pair of them have made batting look the easiest thing in the world in the Taunton sunshine.

Barring one moment, when James Rew, on 30, top-edged a pull and was put down in the deep by the unfortunate Tom Hinley. It is already proving to be a fateful miss.

  8. 'A very productive session for Sussex'published at 13:22 British Summer Time 5 April

    Lunch: Warks v Sussex 477-7

Another very productive session for Sussex, adding another 91 runs whilst losing just two wickets.

Skipper John Simpson has again led from the front, reaching 150 just before the interval, and has now scored six centuries in the 15 Championship matches he has played for Sussex.

Ethan Bamber has again been the pick of the Warwickshire attack on a pitch so far offering precious little help for the bowlers.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 89.2 overs

    Hants 249 v Yorks 121

And that is all out and lunch.

Ben Brown lifts two maximums off Ben Coad to move to within a run of his half century but is denied his 50 as George Hill bags his third wicket (3-36) trapping Sonny Baker (sort of) in front of leg stump.

Hampshire go in with a first innings lead of 128.

Brown's frustration as he swings his bat angrily at the non strikers' end is part due to the fact that looked a bit 'umpire's call' at best on the leg stump, but also that he had been making a little bale of hay of his own in the sunshine when he had the strike.

Still Hampshire are in a strong position here when they come back after lunch.

  11. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 5 April

    Notts 48-0 v Durham 378

After that 45-minute delay at the start of play, lunch was set for 1:10.

The Durham fielders rush around to squeeze in another over as they attempt to make the first breakthrough.

Paul Coughlin plugs away and almost finds one as a loose shot sees Ben Slater top edge high over gully. The ball takes a couple of bounces before reaching the rope.

He goes to 31 and Haseeb Hameed has 17 as Notts lunch at 48-0, 330 runs behind.

    Job done for the openers.

  12. 'A long way back for Worcestershire'published at 13:10 British Summer Time 5 April

    Lunch: Somerset 318-4 v Worcs 154

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

It's been excellent batting from Tom Banton and James Rew.

Worcestershire are very much on the backfoot and knowing that whatever happens, they will need to bat, and bat and bat if they are to get even a sniff of draw out of this game.

One can only see the lead mounting up towards 300 with the way things are going.

The pitch looks flat, the Somerset batsmen are well established and it's a long way back for the visitors.

  13. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 5 April

    Warks v Sussex 477-7

John Simpson has continued to lead from the front for Sussex on their return to Division One and has reached 155 not out.

Warwickshire have chipped away with a couple of wickets but it has been tough work for their under-strength bowling attack.

Ethan Bamber has now taken four wickets but the visitors are looking to bat them out of the game.

  14. Division Two round-uppublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 5 April

    #bbccricket

It's been slow but steady for Lancashire in the morning session at Lord's.

Keaton Jennings fell for 55 and Michael Jones went for 50 has helped the Red Rose to 129-2 at lunch.

They have added 61 runs to their overnight 68-0 and trail by 131.

Derbyshire will be eyeing a big first innings lead as Gloucestershire take their only wicket to the final ball of the morning at Derby.

Wayne Madsen (92*) and Harry Came (83) put on for the third wicket and have moved the hosts to 271-3 at lunch, 49 runs ahead.

Kent have taken control in the only match so far to reach its second innings.

Zak Crawley (26*) and Ben Compton (32*) have guided the visitors to 60-0 after Northants were bowled out for 160. Kent lead by 148.

And Leicestershire have had the better of the morning in Cardiff, losing just the two wickets as they reach 166-3 at lunch in reply to the Glamorgan total of 229.

  15. 'Fantastic bowling from Coad'published at 13:06 British Summer Time 5 April

    Hants 243-9 v Yorks 121

    Sean Ervine
Former Hampshire allrounder on BBC Radio Solent

It's was fantastic bowling from Ben Coad. Rewarded with his first wicket.

Hampshire would have liked to get as many as they can. Ideally 140 or 150 but not Yorkshire are obviously trying to restrict that.

We could be in for a very interesting afternoon.

  16. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 79 overs

    Somerset 318-4 v Worcs 154

Just the one chance for Worcestershire this morning – Tom Hinley spilling James Rew on 20 – but otherwise that has been one way traffic.

Tom Banton has looked in total control and goes in for a well earned ham sandwich unbeaten on 154. Rew has made the best use of his good fortune racing to 77.

Somerset's lead is 164 and despite the new ball being due in an over, they already have a firm grip on this contest.

  17. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 5 April

    Essex 466-4 v Surrey

110 runs added for no loss which adds up to another session of domination for Essex.

Michael Pepper has gone to 1,000 first-class runs which was the followed by Matt Critchley reaching a tenth first-class century.

There has not been a sniff of a chance for the Surrey attack despite having the ball changed for the third time in the game after it had gone out of shape.

The champions are under the pump but will have seen the pitch is lifeless and will expect their batters to respond in kind.

A tenth first-class century for Matt Critchley.

What a signing he has been for Essex since arriving from Derbyshire in 2022.

His milestone has arrived in 208 balls with 13 boundaries.

The bad news for Surrey is I don't think he is done with this one just yet.

  19. 'An interesting game developing'published at 12:57 British Summer Time 5 April

    Hants 229-9 v Yorks 121

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

This is an interesting game developing.

Not sure it's going to go four days, but the pitch tends to never get any worse here if not better and I guess the more we see sun-wise on it, the easier it might become to bat on.

  20. 150 runs

150 for Bantonpublished at 75.1 overs

    Somerset 311-4 v Worcs 154

Banton reaches his 150 with a boundary off Brett D'Oliveira as Somerset stretch the lead to 160.

The hosts are in near total control of this game but there is a new ball due shortly after lunch to deal with. Maybe that can shift the dial for Worcestershire.
