    Somerset 441-6 v Yorkshire

    What a shame.

It's been entertaining cricket so far at the County Ground, with Somerset adding 50 in eight and a half overs of play.

Let's hope this will only be a short delay.

    Change of bowling.

Lyndon James is coming in in place of Dillon Pennington.

Ethan Brookes drives down the ground and James stops the ball with his boot.

Brookes is forward to push the last ball of the over through the off side for a single.

Play eventually got underway at Chelmsford at 10.50am. Lunch will be at 12.30pm, as planned, but tea looks like it will be moved back by 10 minutes.

However, by the time we are aproaching tea we could all be swimming home, judging by the radar!

Matt Critchley has also reached his century in the first two overs of the day. He resumed this morning on 97. The century, his second against Durham, came in 137 balls and included 12x4 and a six.

Essex are now only six runs behind, as this partnership continues to build. It's now worth 169, with Dean Elgar on 145. The bowling looks particularly blunt too. Expect Essex to end up with a decent lead.

We're bathing in sunshine. There's plenty of cloud knocking about, though. White cloud rather than grey. It was looking ominous early on and we did fear for the start of play but we're looking good so far.

Both of these sides will want this to go the distance, they wont want this to be interrupted by rain. Both need the points for very different reasons of course.

The watchful pair of Gareth Roderick and Ethan Brookes are doing a good job for their side.

A brilliant 137-ball century for Matt Critchley.

He hit 12 fours and a six yesterday afternoon and pushes a single off Ben Raine down to third to bring up his 12th first class ton, and first of the summer.

He and Dean Elgar have added 165 for this fourth wicket and are within 10 of the Durham total.

They have 20 overs remaining to look for a third and fourth batting point. Durham need quick wickets.

Ethan Brookes is forward to Josh Tongue and gets a thick inside edge into the leg side for one.

Shot! Gareth Roderick drives with sweet timing and a high elbow through cover for four.

A checked drive down the ground brings one more.

Tongue drops short and Ethan Brookes swings the ball behind square for a single.

    Seven runs off the over.

Ollie Pope is in the zone this morning.

He's moved to 73* with four boundaries already, the latest a lovely punch through the covers off Ethan Bamber.

    Surrey's lead is over 200.

Jack White finds the edge of Ben Green's bat and the Yorkshire captain fails to hang onto a one-handed chance diving to his right behind the stumps.

Three runs added to the total.

A decent first 20 minutes or so for the Pears.

Dillon Pennington beats Gareth Roderick defending outside off and that ball must have been very close to the edge.

A fuller ball is glanced leg side for one.

Ethan Brookes has one hand off the bat as he turns the last ball of the over round the corner vi the thigh pad for a bye.

  12. Play begins at Chelmsfordpublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 10 September

    Essex 319-3 v Durham 333

Here we go, only 20 minutes behind schedule. Which seems a fine result given the weather an hour ago.

Matt Potts takes the first over of the day and Matt Critchley picks up a couple of singles to move to 99* while Dean Elgar clips one beautifully through mid-wicket to reach 145*.

  15. 'I can see both sides of the argument'published at 10:49 British Summer Time 10 September

    Somerset 421-6 v Yorks

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

I think Yorkshire thought that they might have got a Somerset declaration yesterday, just to try and put them under pressure but I think there is an obvious uncertainty about the weather.

I can see both sides of the argument that if Somerset declared now they've still got plenty on the board that could ask questions of Yorkshire first time around.

The other side of the argument is let's make it completely and utterly safe and whack it around a bit, take another hour out of the game and another 50, 60 or 70 runs might still give you the opportunity to bowl the opposition out twice without needing to bat again.

Having said that, it's playing pretty well.

  16. Postpublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 10 September

    Worcs 182 & 105-5 v Notts 207

Josh Tongue continues from the Diglis End and Gareth Roderick leaves a brisk ball outside off stump.

There's a bit more width on offer with the third ball and Roderick nudges the ball to deep third for a single.

Goodness me. We actually have sunshine here.

    A rarity nationwide today.

  17. Division Two updatepublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 10 September

    Kent 293 & 107-1 v Lancashire 284

Ben Dawkins has departed for 36, Will Williams with the breakthrough, his 100th first class scalp for Williams, who will join Gloucestershire next season.

No second half-century of the match for the 18-year-old as he steps back in his crease to a good ball and can only edge to Keaton Jennings at slip.

Another teenager comes in at three, Ekansh Singh, a third England under-19 international.

    Kent lead by 116.

They are off at the home of cricket after just four and a half overs of play.
