Livingstone is bringing himself on to bowl now after a strategic timeout.

Phoenix skipper Liam Livingstone is a real livewire in the field, among non-wicketkeepers only James Vince (280) has fielded more deliveries in the history of the Men's Hundred than Livingstone's 267.

Jordan Cox has had a funny 12 months. He would have made his Test debut last winter but for a broken finger. Since then he has seen Jacob Bethell jump ahead of him in the queue of England batters in waiting.

When Cox did play in England's white-ball teams in West Indies last year he struggled.

    He is playing well here.

  4. dropped catch

Cox dropped on 31published at 45 balls

Was this a chance? The ball has brushed Dan Mousely's fingertips high above his head on the square-leg boundary. I think if could have been two or three steps further back.

    It goes for six too.

Jacob Bethell is so scared of giving the ball any flight. He was darting it in but just dragging his length there.

He was just allowing Jordan Cox room to hit it to the off side.

In balls 25-75 of the innings in the men's Hundred, Benny Howell has 28 wickets - only Adil Rashid (33) has taken more.

Too short from Jacob Bethell. He's just let the pressure off a little as Jordan Cox punishes him for two fours through the covers.

Benny Howell covers the ball so well, so you're never quite sure what he is going to bowl.

He can either wrap his fingers around the ball, hold his fingers upright or hold the ball with his knuckles - all of which come out differently in terms of pace and all react differently off the surface.

He isn't blessed with pace so he has to find other ways of making life hard for the batsman.

All eyes will be on his batting later but Jacob Bethell is on for a bowl.

  10. Invincibles 42-3published at 35 balls

    Cox 16, Billings 6

New batter Sam Billings, having edged his first ball for four, is nearly run out now. As tough as it is in short-form cricket, the Invincibles just need to settle things down.

Brilliant again from Birmingham Phoenix! I feel like that is another plan that has played out perfectly for them. They would've spoken about bowling short deliveries to Sam Curran.

Things are just going to plan for them at the moment. If you plan well, you give yourself a good chance and their seamers are executing.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 28 balls

    S Curran c Clarke b Milne 14 (Invincibles 34-3)

Adam Milne gets another for the Invincibles as Sam Curran is bounced out. The left-hander gets a thin snick on a pull shot - so thin he considers a review - and has to go.

Birmingham Phoenix are just mixing things up here. The experience of the three New Zealand internationals has helped them get a breakthrough early.

Oval Invincibles have been so strong throughout this competition so far, but they haven't been able to come out of the blocks so quickly tonight.

  14. Invincibles 31-2published at 25 balls

Powerplay done and the Phoenix will take it, despite Sam Curran swinging a four on the pull. We saw earlier in the women's game this is a good pitch.

Birmingham Phoenix have got their plan absolutely spot on here.

I've got a funny feeling they might have been chatting in the dressing room or in the bowlers' meeting about getting between the bat and the pad.

Liam Livingstone is lucky in terms of having three really experienced seamers in this team.

He is a spinner himself so he will probably get involved more when the spin comes on, but bowlers like to get on with their own game.

  17. Invincibles 24-2published at 21 balls

    Is this Birmingham Black Caps?

The next bowler up to the mark is New Zealand international Tim Southee.

His first ball is punched for four.

  18. Invincibles 20-2published at 20 balls

    Cox 7, Curran 8

Captain Liam Livingstone is on the player mic.

"You happy, Boulty?" he shouts to his bowler who ignores him.

"I guess that means he is..."

  19. Postpublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 12 August

Trent Boult is going to continue and bowl 10 in a row.

Sam Curran is the new batter.

  20. wicket

Bowled 'im! Trent Boult is slashed for a four over gully but responds with a beauty from round the wicket next up and is knocks over Tawanda Muyeye.

Both Invincibles openers are out early.
