Hello, what's all this then? Is it Shoaib Bashir I see before me?

After 119 overs of seam, England's spinner is finally getting a run-out in this match.

Young turns his first ball towards the square leg boundary - sub fielder Rehan Ahmed is out there and he manages to roll while recovering the ball, flipping it over the ropes.

And with that, New Zealand's lead passes 300.

  2. NZ 93-1published at 22 overs

    Lead by 297

Has Stokes saved that? It appears he has.

The England skipper fields Williamson's drive off Carse, his foot stopping within millimetres of the boundary sponge.

We're subject to multiple replays from various angles before it's adjudged to be just two.

No questions about Williamson's shot from the final ball of the over though, he clears point and the ball races over the ropes.

  3. NZ 85-1published at 21 overs

    Successive fours for Will Young.

He rifles Stokes' second delivery past a diving cover fielder and to the ropes, then leaps off his tip-toes to upper-cut the ball over backward point for four more.

That's the fifty partnership up for this pair, and moves Young into the forties.

Steve Smith and Travis Head are continuing to rebuild for Australia on day two of the third Test against India at the Gabba, helping the hosts to 202-3.

Head is unbeaten on 85 from 102 hundred deliveries, including 11 fours. Smith's innings had been a bit more measured, he has just reached his half-century from 131 balls.

  5. NZ 77-1published at 20 overs

    Eased away!

Williamson drives the opening ball of Carse's over down the ground for four.

    Seemingly little effort, lovely execution.

  6. NZ 73-1published at 19 overs

    Lead by 277

A trio of singles to begin the Stokes over, a trio of dots to end it.

It's looking pretty comfortable for New Zealand out there.

  7. NZ 70-1published at 18 overs

Carse hurries Williamson a little, prompting an exclamation from the New Zealand batter as he doubles over playing a shot into the leg side.

That brings Will Young back on strike, and he picks up two more on that side of the wicket.

Kane Williamson has completed 5,000 Test runs at home in 87 innings, averaging 65.8. He becomes the first New Zealander and the 18th player overall to achieve this milestone.

  9. NZ 66-1published at 17 overs

    Flying over the cover fielder!

Williamson drives over the top of leaping Ben Duckett and the ball rushes away to the ropes.

Stokes leaps in excitement at the possibility of the catch, but he'll need a taller fielder than Duckett in that position to make that catch.

That's 5,000 home Test runs for Williamson.

Ignored for so long, Bashir can be forgiven for thinking he's not actually playing in this game, so he didn't back up Bethell's throw.

    Thanks Tom.

I'm tired enough that I'm open to being convinced that I do indeed have magical powers.

As the players take a drink it is time for me to take a breather too.

Let's hope Mike Peter can conjure up some quick wickets for England.

  13. NZ 59-1published at 16 overs

England get a bit sloppy in the field as a wild overthrow from Jacob Bethell gifts New Zealand two extra runs.

Brydon Carse keeps charging in and gets one to leap up a bit to Williamson, who does well to fend ball downwards. Carse showing that there is still a bit of life in this pitch.

It is time for drinks with New Zealand in a dominant position, leading by 263 runs.

  14. NZ 55-1published at 15 overs

    Lead by 259

Will Young helps himself to four runs with a pull that comes off the inside edge and then onto the thigh pad before racing to the rope.

Stokes is absolutely furious with himself.

Ben Stokes comes steaming in as he always does, initially banging it in short before going for an attempted yorker that comes of Will Young's inside edge and very nearly rolls back onto his stumps.

Another change of bowling as Ben Stokes enters the fray.

In this series, England's openers attacked 41% of the balls and played false shots 31% of the time, with 14% of those false shots resulting in edges. In contrast, New Zealand's openers attacked just 20% of the balls and played false shots 24% of the time, with only 8% of those resulting in edges.

While England's openers have been more aggressive, creating more chances for the Kiwi bowlers, New Zealand's openers have relied on a more traditional approach, focusing on taking their time and maintaining solidity at the crease, making the English bowlers work harder for their rewards.

  19. NZ 45-1published at 12 overs

Will Young pushes the ball into the off-side and immediately sets off for a single. Ben Stokes is quick on it from mid-off and hurls the ball towards the stumps. It doesn't miss by much and the replay shows Young would have been out by an absolute mile.

  20. NZ 44-1published at 11 overs

    Lead by 248

Matthew Potts squares Kane Williamson up slightly and finds the edge, but it is played with soft hands to the ball falls well short of Harry Brook in the slips and flies away for four.

Williamson then expertly guides the ball through a similar area from a slightly wider delivery from Potts.

There is a change of bowling, as Brydon Carse replaces Gus Atkinson.
