  1. Postpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 24 May

    Kent v Essex 265-4

Kent in serious danger of having to bowl a couple of freebie overs at Essex and so they have a little conflab in the middle to help a few seconds tick by.

Five overs remain and still more than 10 minutes before they can finish at 18:00 BST. With the spinners on, these will fly by.

Joe Denly is tossed the ball to bowl the next of them with his legbreaks.

  2. wicket

WICKET Luxton c Gay b Procter 12published at 17:48 British Summer Time 24 May

    Northants v Yorkshire 267-6

This has been a really dogged display by Northamptonshire, who have fought their way back into the game after a good start by Yorkshire to their first innings.

Will Luxton is the latest to go, caught at second slip after pushing forward defensively to Luke Procter. Another 12 overs to come.

  3. wicket

WICKET Donald c van Buuren b Webster 67published at 17:45 British Summer Time 24 May

    Glos v Derbys 409-5

Aneurin Donald is down the track and tries to flick Beau Webster to leg. It takes a leading edge and Graeme van Buuren is able to make up the ground and claim the catch.

Donald put on 113 in 19 overs with Matthew Lamb, who is still there on 170.

  4. Postpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 24 May

    Middlesex v Sussex 272-4

The floodlights at Lord's are doing a lot of heavy lifting at present.

If you have four shadows you tend to be off the field pretty soon after... still 10 overs on the slate, in theory.

  5. Postpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 24 May

    Glos v Derbyshire 408-4

    Why bother running?

Six fours in the space of nine balls - four of them from the same Ajeet Singh Dale over - push Derbyshire's score past 400 and with 10 overs to go, they could have maximum batting points before the close.

Matthew Lamb is now 169 not out and Aneurin Donald has 67 off 57 balls.

  6. 50 for Sam Northeastpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 24 May

    Leics v Glam 321-7

    That’s fifty for Sam Northeast.

He brings up his 64th career first-class half-century off exactly 100 balls with a flick into the legside off Matt Salisbury.

It’s the third time this season he’s reached the landmark and he’s converted both of his previous efforts into big hundreds.

And it’s a timely knock for the Glamorgan skipper - he came into the match with just 24 runs from his last four innings.

  7. 250 runs

250 up for Essexpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 24 May

    Kent v Essex 253-4

Their first bonus point, in the 89th over, brought up with a lovely drive through the covers from Michael Pepper.

They'll fancy a couple more at least, you'd think.

Only seven overs remain today, however.

  8. 50 runs

50 for David Bedinghampublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 24 May

    Durham 109-3 v Somerset 171

Jack Leach gives it a little bit of air and David Bedingham hammers the ball handsomely over mid-on for six as he reaches 50 off 60 balls.

Bedingham scored centuries in his three previous innings and his lowest score for Durham in 2024 is 33 (and that was not out).

He really has gone up a notch or two since being given his chance in Test cricket by South Africa.

  9. Postpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hants 78-1 v Surrey 127

Jordan Clark returns to the Surrey attack which looks a little becalmed here on a sunny Southampton evening.

Toby Albert takes a single to move to 20 off 103 balls.

Nick Gubbins then helps the final ball to extra cover and scampers a single which brings the deficit below 50.

    Nice and easy does it.

  10. 100 runs

100 partnership for Sussexpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 24 May

    Middlesex v Sussex 264-4

A single into the leg side from Cheteshwar Pujara takes the partnership with John Simpson into three figures after 242 balls together.

They have wrestled back control nicely, though Simpson did just offer a chance to Brett Hollman who puts a sharp chance down in the slips.

Floodlights coming on, new ball, can the hosts finish the final 12 overs of the day on a high?

  11. Postpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 24 May

    Durham 103-3 v Somerset 171

David Bedingham's batting style is very reminiscent of someone and we think that someone is former England captain Mike Gatting.

A Gatting-like punch through the covers brings him four off Josh Davey and takes him to 46 not out.

  12. 50 runs

50 for John Simpsonpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 24 May

    Middlesex v Sussex 263-4

A chanceless half-century for John Simpson on his return to Lord's, brought up with a pushed single off Tom Helm.

Simpson brings it up from 130 balls with five of them finding the ropes.

  13. Postpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 24 May

    Middlesex v Sussex 261-4

John Simpson produces a glorious square drive off a wide ball from Ethan Bamper to move to 49.

His hopes of a half-century on his return to Lord's are delayed by pigeons on the square.

  14. 50 runs

50 for Aneurin Donaldpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 24 May

    Glos v Derbys 383-4

Aneurin Donald doesn't like to hang about and back to back fours carry him to 50 off just 50 balls.

He pulls an attempted bouncer from Ajeet Singh Dale over mid-wicket and then uses soft hands to dab past the slips.

This is proving to be a very tough day indeed for Gloucestershire.

  15. Postpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 24 May

    Lancs v Warwickshire 89-3

The hover cover, which was the only cover actually used during that spot of gloomy drizzle, has come off at Old Trafford and the umpires are out to take a light reading. The floodlights remain on.

We'll of course let you know if we get any news, good or bad...

Officially they are off for light rather than rain at the moment.

  16. wicket

WICKET Wharton b Keogh 21published at 17:28 British Summer Time 24 May

    Northants v Yorkshire 249-5

One run short of a batting point, Yorkshire lose their fifth wicket as James Wharton tries to swing spinner Rob Keogh away, makes no contact, and the ball deflects into the stumps off his front leg.

Jonny Tattersall comes out to join Will Luxton at the crease.

  17. Postpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 24 May

    Durham 93-3 v Somerset 171

Lewis Gregory is a canny bowler, but not a quick one and when he drops short at the start of a new over, Ollie Robinson has lots of time to deposit the ball half-way up the seating at square leg for six.

The former Kent wicketkeeper is 35 not out and David Bedingham has 36 - together they have added 74 so far.

  18. Postpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hants 72-1 v Surrey 127

Surrey introduce Cam Steel into the action as they try something new to winkle out another wicket.

Toby Albert steers the third ball into the offside for a single before Nick Gubbins adds a 14th run to his tally. He's looked completely untroubled so far.

Albert then punches another single to deep backward point. Three from the over.

  19. Postpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hants 69-1 v Surrey 127

Nick Gubbins takes a couple of twos off Gus Atkinson and then digs out a yorker from the last ball of the over.

He moves to 13 off 29.

Dan Worrall rumbles in and Toby Albert safely negotiates a testing over as the Surrey man gets some nice swing away from the batter.

He just about gets enough bat on the fifth ball to steer it into the onside for a single.

  20. Postpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 24 May

    Durham 83-3 v Somerset 171

Change of tactics by Somerset, it's time for England spinner Jack Leach. Three runs for David Bedingham through mid-wicket and a single by Ollie Robinson from it. No major alarms for the batters.
