    Middlesex v Derbys 193-8 - target 397

Alex Thomson pushes Luke Hollman into the leg side for a single.

Sam Conners plays back defensively and dabs the ball square on the leg side for one more.

Another quiet phase of play since the wicket of Zak Chappell.

  3. Postpublished at 16:50 26 June

    Nottinghamshire 360 & 424-2 v Somerset 470

Whenever I ask James Rew how he is, his first response is how well his bowling is coming out, well at last he gets the chance to show his left-arm orthodox on the professional stage, at Championship level, yes the highest level in the English game.

No disrespect to him but you would not believe that if you were an American who has just learnt about cricket from Dale Steyn's steward for example.

He has never bowled for Somerset first team in any format of the game before now to be clear.

He turns to the professional left-arm spinner Jack Leach for advice before completing his first over for just one run.

    Middlesex v Derbys 191-8 - target 397

Four close catchers in for Luke Hollman if you include the keeper and Alex Thomson defends.

    Maiden over.

Sam Conners tries to get off strike with a push to leg but doesn't clear the field and in fact nearly pops up a catch to short leg.

An LBW shout fourth ball is turned down. Leg side and a bit high.

    Maiden over.

  5. 100 up for Glamorganpublished at 16:47 26 June

    Glam 102-2 (Target: 262) v Northants

The game is afoot in Cardiff.

Kieron Carlson has come out to drive Luke Procter for four and then slog-sweep Liam Patterson-White for six.

    160 needed in 22 overs.

The asking rate remains very managable at 7.3-an-over.

  6. Postpublished at 16:46 26 June

    Nottinghamshire 360 & 424-2 v Somerset 470

Somerset Head of Science & Medicine Jamie Thorpe has a nine-fer in the Middlesex Prem to his name, and impressed greatly for the Somerset staff media team in the indoor league last winter, but sadly substitute fielders are not allowed to bowl so Tom Banton will get a second and surely final over from this end before hands are shaken.

  7. New ball taken by Abbaspublished at 16:43 26 June

    Warwickshire 254 & 256-6 v Hants 298 & 453-6 declared

Pakistani medium pacer Muhammad Abbas takes the new ball.

Just one off the final ball of the over to start to Sam Hain who is on 86.

  8. New ballpublished at 16:42 26 June

    Essex 196-2 (Target: 433) v Durham

The second new ball is now available for Durham.

But after 65 overs for just one wicket, what chances of another eight in the next 27?

To their credit, they take the new ball and Ben Raine slides one past Tom Westley's outside edge.

  9. Postpublished at 16:41 26 June

    Middlesex v Derbys 191-8 - target 397

Toby Roland-Jones tests Sam Conners out with a bouncer and Conners pulls safely to deep square leg for one.

Thomson whips a short ball through the leg side and the ball lands safely just short of deep mid wicket.

A gully comes in for Rojo and Conners sways away from a bouncer.

  10. Postpublished at 16:41 26 June

    Nottinghamshire 360 & 422-2 v Somerset 470

    Here it is.

Wicketkeeper Tom Banton gets his go. Part-time off-spin is the definition.

He was at the scene of me being hit for 64 off my four overs at Bridgwater CC t'other week, just watching on, I hope he did not take any tips from my spin bowling!

He nor I will disagree with Dave Bracegirdle's commentary on the outcome of his fourth ball:

"Slammed into the middle of next week by Will Young."

Eight runs donated to the kiwi on a platter.

Do not worry, Banton does not have a first-class bowling average to damage.

  11. Postpublished at 16:38 26 June

    Nottinghamshire 360 & 414-2 v Somerset 470

Ben Green is now fielding in Josh Davey's top, what has this come to!?

Another Jack Leach maiden, his 45th over of the innings.

  12. Postpublished at 16:36 26 June

    Warwickshire 254 & 254-6 v Hants 298 & 453-6 dec

James Fuller is taken for 19 off that over as a Sam Hain three and Michael Burgess four follow the two sixes.

Unsure why that over prompted the shift in gears, but a draw is still favourite here.

  13. WICKET Chappell c Fernandes b Hollman 50published at 16:35 26 June

    Middlesex v Derbys 188-8 - target 397

50 and out. A wicket comes almost from nowhere.

Zak Chappell is drawn into an expansive drive by Luke Hollman and he's picked out Nathan Fernandes at short extra cover.

Brilliant diving catch, taking the ball inches above the turf.

The new batter is Sam Conners.

  14. 50 for Zak Chappellpublished at 16:35 26 June

    Middlesex v Derbys 187-7 - target 397

Alex Thomson nudges Luke Hollman round the corner for one to hand the strike back to Zak Chappell on 49.

He finds the gap in front of square leg!

That's his third 50 of the season and the fifth of his career.

89 balls with three fours and a six.

  15. Postpublished at 16:34 26 June

    Nottinghamshire 360 & 414-2 v Somerset 470

Aha Jamie Thorpe is now on the field in his whites!! (I say his whites, clearly they are not, I am not sure who he has borrowed off...)

Somerset really taking the mick out of the pitch and situation here after tea.

Notts won't mind, maybe their groundstaff will, but you cannot blame some of the Somerset playing staff having a rest and giving their backroom staff a run out.

Any joke bowlers to turn to next?

No lesser-spotted Tom Banton with ball in hand yet.

  16. 'I got into a weird zone' - Louis Kimber, after hitting 21 sixespublished at 16:32 26 June

Louis Kimber is applauded off the field at HoveImage source, Rex Features

In case you missed it earlier, Leicestershire's Louis Kimber today played one of the most memorable County Championship innings you could ever wish to see. He hit 243 off 127 balls, with 21 sixes, but they still lost to Sussex by 18 runs.

“My phone has been buzzing and the records I have broken are pretty cool. All the Sussex players congratulated me and told me I didn’t deserve to be on the losing side. They were very gracious and over four days probably deserved to win," he said.

“I got into a kind of weird zone when I wasn’t thinking too much except trying to hit the ball where I wanted to. It was an amazing feeling. There wasn’t too much running going on, I was just trying to hit the ball as far as I could."

He added: "I have batted at number three for most of this season and really enjoyed the challenge but for this game I went down to seven to help the balance of the team and then came in at eight because we’d had a nightwatchman. I want to bat as high as I can but whatever I’m needed to do I will do, to try and win us games of cricket.”

  17. Postpublished at 16:32 26 June

    Warwickshire 254 & 247-6 v Hants 298 & 453-6dec

Batting out for the draw just took a different turn in Sam Hain's head.

30 overs remaining in the day and he smashes James Fuller for six over the fielder on the boundary.

He clears him comfortably for his first six of the season. In the modern era a bad ball is a bad ball but imagine if he got out playing that shot!

Just for good measure he repeats it two balls later, same result!

Hain on 82. A hundred is definitely on.

  18. Chappell punishes Roland-Jonespublished at 16:31 26 June

    Middlesex v Derbys 185-7 - target 397

It's a cruel game for the bowler.

One ball after missing out on a wicket, Zak Chappell lays into a short ball and scythes it over mid wicket for six.

    He move on to 49...

  19. Thomson dropped on 35published at 16:29 26 June

    Middlesex v Derbys 179-7 - target 397

Almost! Toby Roland-Jones bangs the ball in short and Alex Thomson pulls to Leus du Plooy...

He got a hand to it but can't hang on.

Thomson gets away with a single.

  20. WICKET: Root run out 31published at 16:29 26 June

    Glam 76-2 (Target: 262) v Northants

Glamorgan were ticking along very nicely but Billy Root has now been run out in a tremendous mix up.

Root dabbed into the covers and half offered a single, there was yes-and-no-ing and Root ended up totally stranded mid-pitch and he was run out by half the wicket at the bowler's end.

    185 needed in 25 overs at 7.4-an-over.
