Summary

  1. WI 9-0published at 3 overs

A maiden in the third over of the innings for Chris Woakes.

England had already bowled more maidens in the match than their opponents - the West Indies had four apiece in each of their efforts, England sent down nine in their first innings in the field.

It is a lot about mindset for the batting team here. I don't think you even contemplate the scoreboard for the rest of the day, you just play every ball on its merit and try and get the bowlers into their second and third spells and the runs will come.

  3. WI 9-0published at 2 overs

Gus Atkinson's first over is book-ended with leg byes, as deliveries drifting down the leg side deflect off Mikyle Louis for runs.

Four dot balls as the sandwich filling.

There are not many demons in this pitch, most of the dismissals have been because of false shots.

All four results are still possible and that is why we love this game.

  5. WI 6-0published at 1 over

    Thanks Sam.

Kraigg Brathwaite leaves the first three balls of Chris Woakes' over, blocks the fourth.

He gets off the mark with a nudged two into the covers, then unfurls a lovely drive in the same region to pick up four.

Will this be another memorable chase? We're about to find out.

The players are out and it's time for me to hand over to Mike Peter for the start of an evening session that is likely to last three hours...

If West Indies do chase this down, it will be the seventh highest successful chase in Test history.

They do have previous, though, holding two of the current top six.

That includes the record chase in Tests, 418-7 against Australia back in 2003.

There are also shades of the Headingley Test between these two sides in 2017, when the Windies chased down 322 to win on the final day.

West Indies did a good job of finishing that England innings quickly once Joe Root was dismissed for 122.

Jayden Seales bowled Mark Wood and then Shoaib Bashir as the last three wickets went down for just six runs.

If the West Indies are only one or two down at close they'll think they're in this. But 380 is a lot of runs...

This is first time England have scored 400 in both innings in a Test.

  11. West Indies need 385 to winpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 21 July

Tea will be taken, meaning it will be a bumper evening session.

With 48 overs left in the day and another full day of play to come tomorrow, the required rate is not too challenging for the West Indies.

England have the runs on the board, though, and will hope scoreboard pressure plays a part.

The pitch remains pretty docile, albeit with the odd one staying low now, so hosts will have to work for their wickets - get all 10 and they win the series.

    Bowled 'im.

Full and straight from Jayden Seales and it goes straight through Shoaib Bashir as the England tailender tries to whip it leg side.

    Game on.

  14. Eng 425-9published at 92 overs

    Shot!

Gus Atkinson shuffles down the track and thumps Jason Holder back over mid-off for four.

That's a super shot. He won't keep strike though as Holder sneaks a bouncer down leg to end the over.

  15. Eng 421-9published at 91.3 overs

    Lead by 380

Not an unreasonable position to take, Jack. England have scored just two runs in the two and a bit overs since his dismissal.

Gus Atkinson continues to try and protect Shoaib Bashir.

Root is out and I don’t see the point of us carrying on batting. We won’t score huge runs. It just takes time out of the game. Surprised at no declaration.

Shoaib Bashir comes in and times the ball superbly out to deep mid-wicket.

He gets no run for it, though, as Gus Atkinson tells him to stay where he is. The England number nine is going to farm the strike, it seems.

Mark Wood is bowled by Jayden SealesImage source, Getty Images

Bit of swing from Jayden Seales, who does keep running in. I did wonder whether England might declare now, as it'd mean they'd get a few overs before tea. But if they don't, they'll leave a very long evening session.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 90.5 overs

    Wood b Seales 0 (Eng 421-9)

If you want something doing right, do it yourself.

Jayden Seales takes the fielders out of the equation as he hits the top of Mark Wood's off stump.

A lovely, full delivery combined with a very loose, quite ambitious drive from Wood sees the leather thud into timber.

I think they stand too wide at first slip. It shouldn't be a spectacular catch, it leaves Hodge too much to do.
