    Raining...

  2. rain stops play

    Rain - Ind 85-3published at 29 overs

    Sudharsan 28, Nair 0

A very wide delivery from Jamie Overton sends the wicketkeeper and three slips tumbling like skittles. No idea what that delivery was. Just the 20 extras from England so far.

Umbrellas and raincoat hoods are popping up in the crowd. The grounds team are on their feet. Aaaaaaaand here they come.

    We're going off for rain.

The cricket has restarted and it’s now raining in Brixton which is confusing - starting to question reality.

Shubman Gill has faced the most deliveries in this series and has the lowest false shot percentage among all batters, just 9%. A lucky breakthrough for England and very unfortunate run out for India.

Terrible from Shubman Gill… he can blame his teammate and he can blame the fact he slipped a little but in reality there was never a run - he probably wouldn’t have got home if he didn’t slip!

With every single replay, that run out looks worse for Shubman Gill.

For me, it looks funnier. Like a cartoon character, he was a windmill of limbs as he tried to stop and turn.

A wicket maiden for Gus Atkinson.

He set off like a jack rabbit. It's a great bit of fielding from Gus Atkinson and England get the prized scalp of Shubman Gill.

It was like a greyhound out of the stalls. If it was hit, it was always out because he was miles out.

Not the first time India have got themselves into trouble on the square this week.

Got him! Shubman Gill has run himself out. There was never a run there. Absolute madness from Gill. Brilliant from Gus Atkinson.

Gill, who's been batting all summer, how do you get him out? That's how you get him out.

A penny for Shubman Gill's thoughts. A major brain fade from the India captain and it's cost him his wicket.

He set off at top speed for a single, which definitely was not there, and Gus Atkinson, on his follow-through, throws down the stumps.

Gill is out for 21. India are 83-3. Deary me.

Jamie Overton heard a noise, I heard a noise, but it must've been bat onto pad.

He's found a bit of rhythm after the break.

  12. Ind 83-2published at 27 overs

Oh Toby, don't say that. I'm only just recovering from the news that play could go on until 19:30.

Jamie Overton, bowling consistently in the mid-high 80s, is getting the ball to bounce and swing a bit.

He finishes the over with a huge appeal, believing he has Sai Sudharsan caught behind. No one else is interested.

    Raining hard again in Brentford.

India look keen to run every single. Non-striker Sai Sudharsan is halfway down before being turned back by Shubham Gill after a sharp piece of fielding by Ben Duckett. The following ball, they dart through for a single.

Gus Atkinson sends down a no ball to extend the over. And then a wide.

    Six runs to India's tally.

I think Shubman Gill has one of the most pleasing extra cover drives in the business.

I can't understand Overton opening after the break. Surely you go with your two best bowlers Atkinson and Woakes, unless they want the same end? Hopefully he proves me wrong but his and Tongue's wayward bowling meant England missed an opportunity to get ahead in the morning session.

'Lovely stroke' - Gill plays Overton delivery through extra cover for four

England have three slips in place for Jamie Overton's first over of the afternoon session.

The fourth delivery comes flying down the leg side, rears up, and a wide-eyed Jamie Smith catches it at head height.

After five dot balls, Shubman Gill drives through the covers for four. Absolutely lovely.

It's very difficult for some of these England bowlers to play after doing nothing then coming back to play Test match cricket. They were lacking a bit this morning.

Gus Atkinson (1-7 from his six overs this morning) gets play back under way with a maiden.

Sai Sudharsan is happy to leave well alone or block.

Jamie Overton is limbering up in the outfield. And here he is.

Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and the England team are back out.

Play will resume with India 72-2 after 23 overs.

Remember, the afternoon session is scheduled to run until 17:05.
