Thanks Elizabeth. I am here to take this page out of that rabbit's hole.

I can now see the pitch. There's only one big sheet left on the outfield.

And having sent the live down a lovely rabbit hole, here's Matt Henry to guide you through the rest of the delay and hopefully some play.

Here's a reminder of what happened in the afternoon session...

Just six overs were bowled before the rain returned but Gus Atkinson did remove Shubman Gill in comical fashion.

While we wait, does anyone fancy entertaining me with weather related cricketers?

Ben Rain(e) and Washington Sun-dar immediately come to mind.

It's 16:10, so the players will now take tea.

On the field, the grounds team are shifting some of the covers and running around with purpose.

I don't know what to tell you, Luke.

I should say that the weather has haunted me this summer. I had a rain delay during one of the white-ball matches against West Indies, rain at Edgbaston, and a rugby match interrupted by lightning.

The Oval must have its own micro-climate! Peckham has sunshine!

    Ask Me Anything

For the second time today, play has been halted by the weather.

BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team have answered the big question for you - why isn't cricket played in the rain?

I'm not sure what's going on because it's currently dry and hinting at sunshine in Battersea!

  16. How's stat?!published at 15:46 British Summer Time 31 July

    Andy Zaltzman
    Test Match Special statistician

Shubman Gill now goes into the top nine in most runs scored in a Test series in England, either for or against the hosts.

He is the top Indian run scorer with 743 runs in nine innings.

  17. Postpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 31 July

We only managed six overs of play before the rain returned but that was more than enough time for Shubman Gill to run himself out...

England won't mind. A nice little break, put their feet up and let the pitch juice up a little bit.

When England play at home, they seem to have a bit of luck. Tosses go their way, the clouds as well but I guess you make your own luck.

The mini rain scare just before the restart at 15:00 brought one cover onto the field.

This time, it's all the covers. We could be in for another lengthy delay.
