Ash Gardner hits Danni-Wyatt-Hodge on the pad after the England batter comes forward and plants her foot with a defensive shot.

Turned down. But Australia send it upstairs.

  2. Eng 106-4published at 43.1 overs

Danni Wyatt-Hodge is rewarded for her patience as she gets a loose one to start with from Ash Gardner and emphatically drives it through the covers for four.

This is a good partnership. Good from Nat Sciver-Brunt who is just absorbing the pressure.

  5. drinks break

England 102-4 at drinkspublished at 07:05 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

Steady progress in the hour since the interval as the players take drinks.

Alana King's menace looms large, though.

We could be in for a lovely half an hour.

  7. Eng 102-4published at 43 overs

Slip, gully and a very short extra cover in place for Alana King.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge is beaten again before finally breaking King's spell with a jab into the covers to pinch the strike.

This is a matchup for me. Danni Wyatt-Hodge loves to come forward but Australia have set a trap up.

Alana King just needs to be patient and she'll have her.

  9. Eng 101-4published at 42.2 overs

Alana King with a couple of beauties to Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who is playing straight and is twice beaten on the outside edge.

It's been a good battle so far between the two teams. If Heather Knight went through to lunch, England would probably be in a better position but they've done well here so far.

Annabel Sutherland is playing the percentages at the moment, just hanging the ball on a fourth or fifth stump line to Nat Sciver-Brunt.

Sciver-Brunt gently drives the final ball of the over through covers for a couple to take England past the hundred mark.

That flightier, fuller delivery is the one that caught Sophia Dunkley. Danni Wyatt-Hodge manages to read it and flick it to the side.

  13. Eng 99-4published at 31 overs

Alana King has excellent control of length.

She's teasing Danni Wyatt-Hodge into sweeping, but so far the England batter resists after belatedly turning a preconceived shot into a defensive prod.

Wyatt-Hodge has a big waft at King's penultimate delivery but cannot make contact.

  14. Eng 99-4published at 40 overs

Close for Australia, who are turning up the heat at the MCG.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge cuts Annabel Sutherland but the ball falls just short of the two gullies Australia have stationed there in attempt to bring about this mode of dismissal.

Wyatt-Hodge pinches the strike off the final ball of the over to open her account.

It surprised me that Australia didn't bat first, it's perfect batting conditions out there. They're out for blood.

  16. Eng 97-4published at 39 overs

Alana King is mischievously spinning the ball from hand to hand between deliveries. A wicket maiden for the Aussie leg-spinner as Danni Wyatt-Hodge safely negotiates the next five balls.

It's such a soft dismissal. It's a flighted delivery, probably a little bit too full. Sophia Dunkley has flicked it straight back to Alana King.

Sophia Dunkley will be furious with that dismissal but it would've brought up Alana King's confidence.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 38.1 overs

    Dunkley c & b King 21 (Eng 97-4)

A lapse in concentration from Sophia Dunkley costs her.

The England batter gets her footwork in a bit of a mess, ends up going inside out and rather tamely hits the first ball of Alana King's over back to the leg-spinner.

The umpires briefly check the catch is clean, and Dunkley is on her way.

With Sophia Dunkley, it always feels like there's a chance to sneak one through bat and pad. It always looks like there's a chance for lbw.

  20. Eng 97-3published at 38 overs

Nat Sciver-Brunt and Sophia Dunkley politely shake hands after the second of two singles off Annabel Sutherland brings up their fifty partnership.
