Still quite a bit of work to do, but England are actually in a better position than Australia were at this stage.

That was a lovely shot from Tammy Beaumont. Beautiful clearance and great timing.

  3. Eng 67-2published at 15 overs

Tammy Beaumont is willing to take risks, but they are fairly calculated at the moment rather than anything reckless.

A full delivery from Annabel Sutherland to start her third over and the England opener comes to meet it and manages to get the ball over the head of mid-on to pick up four.

Australia spinner Alana King on the player mic, speaking about Ash Gardner's hundred: "Super pumped for her. She batted beautifully. She has been threatening for a while so it was nice for it to come off. What I really love about this team is when our backs are against the wall we have that fight and grit."

Australia played the surface really well. They showed once you're into it and get used to the pace, there's runs to be taken.

Ash Gardner sports a pair of mirrored shades as she whirls away.

The turn she is able to find off the pitch is true and both Tammy Beaumont and Nat Sciver-Brunt capably work her both sides of the wicket.

Australia have quietened down a little. From small acorns etc.

England look much better out there. They are rotating the strike, finding runs and taking risks.

This is a dangerous arm to face but England will have to take some risks.

  9. Eng 55-2published at 13 overs

    Oof, a let-off for England.

Nat Sciver-Bunt bunts a delivery from Annabel Sutherland down the ground, sets off, but Alana King is on to it in a flash. King shies at the stumps at the non-striker's end, but misses by a matter of inches.

NSB would have been run out well short of her ground.

England can’t say they haven’t had chances in this ODI format to at least get themselves on the board. To have the Aussies 50-4 but to end up chasing 309 is just simply not good enough. Two poor World Cups and already the best they can hope for realistically is another drawn Ashes series. Time to look at whether Jon Lewis is the person to take them forward?

It's great that Nat Sciver-Brunt was able to capitalise off that loose delivery.

    Ash Gardner into the attack.

What odds she follows up her hundred with a five-wicket haul as well?

The Aussie off-spinner tosses her fifth ball up to Nat Sciver-Brunt but it's a little too wide, and the England batter mullers it over cover for four.

You can see how hard the batters are working. They're moving around the crease, taking a chance at looser balls and trying to find the boundary. It's a real positive sign.

  14. Eng 47-2published at 11 overs

Annabel Sutherland replaces Kim Garth, whose first spell reads 5-1-6-0.

Nat Sciver-Brunt punishes a loose one first up from the Aussie all-rounder, whipping her first delivery round the corner for four.

England just about hanging in the contest at the moment. They're going to have to find some acceleration from somewhere later in the innings, though.

Georgia Wareham's innings was a testament to Australia's depth. She was brought in as a spin bower, I wonder where she would bat in England's line-up.

Wareham cameo caps off brutal Australian innings

ABC cricket statistician Ric Finlay: Georgia Wareham's 38 not out from 12 balls at 316.7 runs per 100 balls is the quickest score of the 3,569 scores of 38 or greater in women's ODI history...

  17. Eng 41-2published at 10 overs

Tammy Beaumont with a swipe across the line to Kim Garth but she cannot get the distance and the ball plugs when it thuds in the outfield. The England opener has realised she has to do something against the Aussie seamer.

Australia were 46-3 after 10 overs so England are, ahem, in a similar position.

  18. Eng 39-2published at 9 overs

Tammy Beaumont with a pugnacious drive down the ground off the penultimate delivery of Megan Schutt's fifth over. Lovely follow through. Four runs.

It's not the way that England wanted to start. It looks like they're struggling to score off the Australian bowlers, Kim Garth especially.

  20. Eng 34-2published at 8 overs

Kim Garth is fastidiously counting up dot balls as Silas Marner did his gold coins. She has conceded a miserly four runs off her four overs thus far.

    Slim pickings for England.
