for Toby Albertpublished at 7.2 overs

    Durham v Hampshire 101-0

Nathan Sowter is brought into the attack and his first ball of leg-spin is smashed through the covers by Toby Albert for four, to move to 49*.

He brings up his half-century from 27 balls with a single from the next delivery. Five fours and three sixes along the way.

Ben Raine is just so skilful, he has so many variations.

He leads on and off the field and is a great man to have in the dressing room.

  4. Postpublished at 7 overs

    Durham v Hampshire 97-0

Ben Raine has been watching the carnage from the field but takes the seventh over, starting by straying onto Toby Albert's pads for a single.

An attempted sweep fails to make contact while the third ball is dabbed into the leg side for a single.

Chris Lynn digs out a yorker from the next for another single, Raine is bowling like this is the final over and he's defending nine.

Albert can't time the next down the ground and has to settle for another single but a bottom edge from Lynn races past Ollie Robinson and away to the rope for a boundary. Agony for the home side.

Better from Raine, but still eight off the over.

  5. Durham once conceded 96 against Notts in the powerplaypublished at 18:56 BST 5 September

    Durham v Hampshire 89-0

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

The worst powerplay Durham have had they conceded 96 against Notts which from memory was a world record.

They had Usman Arshad taken off for bowling beamers, then his replacement got injured so there were three bowlers in one over!

  6. 90 in the Powerplay!published at 6 overs

    Durham v Hampshire 90-0

Jimmy Neesham is back, and the carnage continues.

Toby Albert launches him effortlessly over mid-off to the rope for a one bounce four.

A mis-field from Matty Potts allows Albert another two before Albert launches the third ball back over Neesham's head for a monster six. Brute force.

Durham have a chat. They need one.

Neesham responds with a leg-side ball which is also a front-foot no-ball. Agony for the hosts.

Albert tries a reverse off the free-hit yorker but can't make contact. A small win for Neesham.

The next is pitched up for another six down the ground which takes Albert into the 40s - the sixth six of the innings.

The final ball is clipped straight to short fine leg. No run. 20 off the over. 90-0 at the end of the Powerplay, the second highest total of the season.

Neesham has 0-45 from two overs.

  7. A rare meeting of these two sides in T20 cricketpublished at 18:51 BST 5 September

    Durham v Hampshire 69-0

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

They have only played each other once before (in this format), that was in a quarter-final in Southampton in 2011.

Durham were bowled out for 99.

    Danny Briggs got a five-fer.

  8. Postpublished at 5 overs

    Durham v Hampshire 69-0

Matty Potts is back, replacing Jimmy Neesham after his inauspicious start.

After a dot ball first up Chris Lynn takes a swing and gets some luck with an edge through the vacant slips which runs to the rope.

Lynn middles the next one, cutting past point to the boundary at approximately 300mph then fends off one in front of his grill from the fourth ball of the over, another dot.

The fifth ball is loose and is pulled flat for SIX over mid-wicket. Incredible power from Lynn. His eye is well and truly in.

Lynn uppercuts the final ball over backward point, all the way to the rope and it's 19 off the over.

This is some start. Lynn has 41* from 16 balls.

Callum Parkinson is back for his second over and Toby Albert waits one ball before dispatching him through the covers for four and follows up with another down the ground to the on-side.

They are going after Durham here, perhaps in response to losing the toss.

A big swing from Albert sends a faint outside edge through to Ollie Robinson but the ball cannons off his gloves and to the deck.

Nine off the over. Albert has 25* from 14 with Lynn 23* from 11.

This is Jimmy Neesham's sixth county, he's got some airmiles in!

  11. 6 runs

24 off the overpublished at 3 overs

    Durham v Hampshire 41-0

Jimmy Neesham takes over number three, with Chris Lynn on strike and slaps the second ball, a full-toss, through point for four.

    It's a no-ball too, a mistake from Neesham there.

The free-hit is straight to Matty Potts at mid-on who fields neatly, preventing further damage.

Lynn is finding his groove and smashes the next ball over the long-on boundary for his first maximum.

An inside edge behind the timbers allows Lynn to scamper a couple from the fourth ball while the fifth is slower and pulled away into the leg side on the swivel for another four.

One bounce four over the head of mid-off finishes the over.

24 off the Neesham over. Hawks are flying already.

Lynn has 23* with Toby Albert 16* from eight balls.

It just shows, with a spinner it can really go either way.

I don't think Parkinson will get another over yet

  13. Postpublished at 2 overs

    Durham v Hampshire 17-0

Callum Parkinson takes the second over with his left-arm spin, only for Toby Albert to make room to wallop him over long-off for six, greeted by deathly silence around the Riverside.

A couple of singles follow before Albert picks a gap past fine leg to run a couple, with Graham Clark winning the chase just inside the boundary.

The penultimate ball is skied towards deep mid-wicket but drops safe allowing Albert to nick another two and then the final ball is cracked behind square for a four.

16 off the over. Experiement unsuccessful, you'd say.

  14. Postpublished at 1 over

    Durham v Hampshire 1-0

Toby Albert negotiates the first couple of balls from Matty Potts without alarm before chopping the third towards point for the Hawks' first run.

Chris Lynn takes a moment to settle in, ducking under a bouncer from the fifth delivery and then takes a big swing and miss at the final ball.

One off the over, good start from Potts, who seems destined to be on the plane Down Under this winter. (Check the BBC Cricket page for more).

Chris Lynn absolutely smashed it everywhere in a Northants shirt here a few years ago.

He hit one six out of the ground hitting a conservatory of a nearby house.

Andrew Radd was on comms with me and he was sent the CCTV footage of the ball smashing the glass!

Durham head coach Ryan Campbell is thrilled at how the county has transformed its fortunes in T20 cricket.

Under the Australian's guidance, Durham have reached the knockout stages of the T20 Blast in successive seasons for the first time in 16 years.

But now he wants the team to go one step further and reach its first Finals Day since 2016.

"I'm so proud of where this club has got to with T20 to now host a quarter-final," Campbell told BBC Sport.

"It's a great achievement but we're not happy with that. We want to keep pushing on, we want to win the whole thing."

Durham also announced earlier today a two-year contract extension for Campbell.

Hawks all-rounder Liam Dawson says his side can be proud of their consistency in the T20 Blast as they seek a record-setting 11th Finals Day appearance.

The England man told BBC Radio Solent: “Getting to another quarter-final is really pleasing, I think we have played some decent cricket throughout, so (tonight) will be good fun.”

It’s a fourth quarter-final in five years for the Hawks and Dawson added: “It’s a tremendous run, we have always prided ourselves on getting to the knockout stages in this competition and it’s another year when we have an opportunity to get to Finals Day.”

Hampshire head coach Adi Birrell told BBC Radio Solent: “In white ball cricket we are right up there at the top in county cricket. I am very proud of what the white-ball teams have produced.

“A quarter-final in the Blast is an achievement but if we got to the top four out of 18 that would be fantastic.

A shake-up to the domestic white-ball summer will take place in 2026, including a slimmed down Vitality Blast played in one block.

A review into the white-ball domestic structure led by the counties - in consultation with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) - recommended changes with an eye on player welfare and competition narrative.

From next summer the T20 Blast competition reduces the group stages by two games to 12 matches per side, with the quarter-finals and Finals Day following on directly so the competition is wrapped up in one block.

The two groups of nine sides will be replaced by three groups of six split into north, central and south groups as they were in 2020.
