An audible groan from fans at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham - one of the few ‘official’ fan zones set up by the ICC.

Spirits still high though, DJ’s are playing music, fans are dancing, and there is a healthy mix of India and Pakistan flags and shirts still spilling in…all fun at the minute - but its starting to drizzle here too!

It looks like we might be about to see some cricket in New York.

Both teams are out on the field and the national anthems are getting underway.

This is one of cricket's fiercest rivalries, but there has been plenty of respect between the two so far today.

Fans have gathered at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan to watch the game on giant screens in the middle of the outfield.

This game really is like no other.

I caught up with Shilpi, Jyoti and their kids Ryan and Saanvi from New Jersey behind the stands a few moments ago.

They spent the past few days preparing their signs to wave at the game.

"This is my second cricket game. I am really excited!" Saanvi says.

Ryan adds: "It's my first proper cricket match, I really hope India win!"

He's been getting players old and new to sign it too.

    Breaking

Following another pitch inspection in New York, it has been confirmed that play will now start at 16:20 BST, should the rain stay away.

It is looking to clear, but more is forecast later on.

All being well though, we should get a start in just over 20 minutes.

The heavens have opened again here in New York and fans have started to beat a hasty retreat to find some cover. Others have accepted their fate and the drenching.

A reminder that according to the playing conditions we will start to lose overs from the game from around 17:00 BST so we still have an hour to play with.

The forecast for later on this afternoon is much better.

Security for this game has been extremely tight and there is a heavy police presence all around the ground.

Sniffer dogs, bomb disposal experts, military-style armoured vehicles, helicopters circling the ground and members from every branch of police imaginable. Nothing has been left to chance.

"Every game we've staged so far has basically been a test run for this match," an officer from Nassau County police told me as fans made their way into the stadium.

    It's like we're in a carwash.

I think it's pretty safe to say we will not be seeing any play at the scheduled start time of 16:00 BST.

Those in the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have been leaving the stands to gain shelter, with the rain getting heavier and heavier.

It has gone from mizzle to wet rain.

  14. Postpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 9 June

There is some rain again in New York and the covers have come back on, but it does look very light, for now at least.

No news of any further delays, at this stage.

  16. 'This is a very funny tournament'published at 15:37 British Summer Time 9 June

India captain Rohit Sharma: "We have to assess quickly how this pitch plays and get a decent score.

On playing at New York already: "It will help us to assess what is a decent score. We've tried to assess the conditions as best as possible, but it is challenging. The batters will try and get us to a big score and then the bowlers will come in.

How big is this game in terms of this group?: "You are playing in a World Cup, you have to show up and play well. This is a very funny tournament.

Team news?: "We are going with the same 11."

  17. 'The past is the past'published at 15:34 British Summer Time 9 June

Pakistan captain Babar Azam: "We are going to bowl first because of the weather and the moisture on the pitch. We want to utilise it in the first six overs.

"We're going with four fast bowlers and it should suit the surface and we'll try and play our best.

"The past is the past and we're looking forward to this pitch and we're ready to give 100% to try and win.

"You're always motivated in a India-Pakistan match because people are waiting for this."

There's a very big introduction for both captains and match referee David Boon in the middle from Ravi Shastri.

So much so, among his laughter, India captain Rohit Sharma briefly lost the coin in his pocket.

When he does eventually flip it, Babar Azam calls correctly and Pakistan elect to bowl first.

The toss is scheduled for 15:30 BST but it's just started spotting again here in New York so the covers have been dragged back on the pitch.

The captains are still out in the middle though so it's looks like we're proceeding with it.

India great Sachin Tendulkar has just turned up, by the way, and been absolutely mobbed.
