Just imagine what the Afghanistan bowlers could have done with another 40 or 50 runs on this pitch.

  2. SA 6-1published at 3.2 overs

The first two balls of Fazalhaq Farooqi's over are dot balls.

South Africa have just scored off just three of the opening 20 deliveries of the innings.

Aiden Markram has nicked that and they haven't reviewed!

  6. SA 6-1published at 3 overs

Naveen continues, two slips in - why not.

Hendricks cuts his first ball away uppishly, it falls just short of Azmatullah at deep third and South Africa. It provokes a few sour looks from the bowler, but I'm not sure he was getting there.

He maybe should have had a wicket three balls later though! Markram drives hard and Rashid Khan appears to be the only player who can hear a knick. Ultimately he decides not to review, but he should have done so - snicko shows there was one.

    Could have been 6-2...

  7. SA 5-1published at 2 overs

Captain Aiden Markram is the new bat and he fends off the final ball of the over.

One down. Big man, Quick de Kock as well, the prized wicket in South Africa's top order.

Afghanistan have to keep the stumps in play if they are to have any chance.

It would be a long way off to say Afghanistan have dreams of getting back into this match but you never know.

    Stumps everywhere!

In-ducker from Farooqi, beating the bat of De Kock who was trying to lift the left-armer high over mid-wicket.

This victory may be near inevitable, but the path to it may not be smooth...

Lovely leg-stump half-volley. A nice juicy one and it hits the middle of De Kock's bat.

It might not be a long chase but we've seen those nervy moments from South Africa and if one or two early wickets go down...

  13. SA 5-0published at 1.1 overs

    Shot.

Quinton de Kock whips Fazalhaq Farooqi's first delivery away through mid-wicket for the first four of the innings.

If this was a longer game, it could be called off. You'd have captains starting to talk to the umpires.

  15. SA 1-0published at 1 over

De Kock gets South Africa off the mark by tucking a single away to mid-on.

Naveen then sends a riser past the bat of Reeza Hendricks - a lot of bounce there.

Hendricks has had a pretty miserable tournament - bar 43 against Nepal his highest score has been 19.

If this was a Test then I think you might get about 20 overs into the first session.

There are some concerned faces in the South African dug out, which given the game situation you'd think there wouldn't be.

Quinton de Kock is wincing and Gulbadin Naib - the expert in on-field injuries - comes over to see of he is OK.

  18. SA 0-0published at 0.2 overs

    Naveen-ul-Haq first up for Afghanistan.

Quinton de Kock lets his first ball go, but can do nothing to avoid the second, it spits up off the pitch and crashes into his ribs.

This pitch, as Steven Finn said, is naughty.

This is the longest between innings that we've had at this World Cup.

Afghanistan have been out their after there huddle for a long time.
