I think the pitch will flatten out. It's been very bowler friendly, but both teams wanted to bat first - what have they seen?

We can see Jonathan Trott in the dug-out and he is probably questioning the decision.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.3 overs

    Janat lbw b Shamsi 8 (Afg 50-7)

Gone! Pitching in line and clipping leg stump.

Karim Janat lunged forward but the ball dipped on him, landed in line with the stumps and straightened.

No bat and ball-tracking shows it didn't go quite enough for Afghanistan's liking.

Tabraiz Shamsi gets the seventh for South Africa.

I think that's out. More than half the ball will have been pitching in line.

  4. Afghanistan reviewpublished at 9.3 overs

It takes until his third ball but Tabraiz Shamsi gets one right and hits Karim Janat on the pad.

It looked good and up goes the umpire's finger. Reviewed quickly...

  5. Afg 49-6published at 9.1 overs

Long hop to start from Tabraiz Shamsi and Karim Janat wallops it through square leg for four.

No more than that delivery deserved.

Good morning! Actually feeling quite pleased that the heat is keeping me awake because it means I'm not sleeping through the cricket. Come on Afghanistan!

Geoff's been crunching the numbers for me. Lowest total in a semi-final - West Indies, 101 in 2009 at The Oval.

  8. Afg 45-6published at 9 overs

Karim Janat pinches a single into the covers to end the over.

Seven from it and it's now back-to-back overs without a wicket. Progress for Afghanistan after an awful start.

It just goes to show how important early wickets are against this Afghanistan team. It's why Australia must be kicking themselves, because they couldn't break that partnership.

  10. Not outpublished at 8.4 overs

    Afg 44-6

It was going down leg. Karim Janat remains in the middle and on we go.

That was South Africa's first review for five matches. Not a great one.

  11. South Africa reviewpublished at 8.4 overs

    Afg 44-6

South Africa didn't seem that interested when Anrich Nortje hit Karim Janat on the pad.

But Aiden Markram has called for the review. It looked to be sliding down leg.

  12. Afg 44-6published at 8.3 overs

A bouncer from Anrich Nortje hits a cracker, rears up and flies over Quinton de Kock's head for four byes.

Very harsh on the wicketkeeper that that goes against him.

  13. Afg 40-6published at 8.1 overs

Another fine shot, this time from Karim Janat.

Back down the ground, just straight of mid-on but just lacks the timing to make it all the way to the rope.

Two more to the total and they're all helpful at this stage for Afghanistan.

You can't judge a pitch until both teams have batted on it...

I think Rashid Khan should bat higher, I think he can bat time. Lovely cover drive, hold the pose.

  16. Afg 38-6published at 8 overs

    Lovely shot.

Rashid Khan stands up tall and hits a Kagiso Rabada delivery at the top of the bounce, through extra cover for four.

Four more! Short, wide and slapped away through point by the Afghanistan skipper.

There's been a wicket in every over in this match, bar the sixth.

  18. Afg 29-6published at 7 overs

Afghanistan may be down but there is no lack of fight from Rashid Khan.

He gestures to suggest he thinks Anrich Nortje should be called for a wide, the bowler has a few words for him and there is quite the stare off between the pair at the end of the over.

In between, Rashid exchanges a few verbals with the South Africa slip cordon.

I'm reluctant to be critical of Afghanistan, there's a lot of things going on today, the emotions of the occasion. But that's a pretty brainless shot from Azmatullah.

He did hit a nice boundary in a similar fashion a couple of overs ago, but that was inside the powerplay when there weren't men on the boundary.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.3 overs

    Omarzai c Stubbs b Nortje 10 (Afg 28-6)

Caught in the deep and Anrich Nortje has his 50th T20I wicket.

Having been beaten by that beauty from Nortje the ball before, Azmatullah Omarzai skips down the track and aims a big shot over the off side.

The ball slides off the outside half of the bat and gives Tristan Stubbs a simple catch at deep point.
