It was a game of two halves. The powerplay I think is so important. It is the easiest time to score. You obviously only have two out on the boundary but that is when the ball is hard. That's the only time you are probably going to see any seam at all, so I think that's what Danni Wyatt-Hodge did really well.

I think this England side and all the teams, especially at Sharjah because it is so hot when the spinners come on and the outfield is so slow, you've really got to make the most of that powerplay to get ahead of the rate because it is inevitably going to be harder in those middle overs for sure.

What Danni (Wyatt-Hodge) said was spot on, there's not many people in our batting line-up that know their role inside out. 'This is what I do, I'm clear on how I do it'. She's literally the only one in the team that knows that. Nat (Sciver-Brunt) has a good idea, Amy (Jones) has a very good idea, because they are very experienced.

I still don't believe they always play to the same intent they do every time they step out there for England the way Danni Wyatt-Hodge does and it is quite frustrating because I watched them in the warm-up games, put myself through that as well and it showed there, so tentative. Not sure of the surface, not sure of the slow ball and they are going to become predictable.

The Aussies in their warm-up games bowled lots of slower balls at them and it worked. We've got to be able to be more clear and play with intent like Danni says, but not reckless cricket. They know what that looks like, they've talked about it and listened. It's right, they just don't seem to be doing it. Six out of ten was spot on there.

In my head, I thought 109 would be enough. A lot of teams here know what other teams are capable of and what fills them with confidence and what makes them feel like they are just out of reach. 109, any team should not feel that is out of reach, but on this ground, with what we've seen so far, it's just putting a little bit of doubt in people's minds.

We know it is hard to score boundaries, it's a bit low and slow. It's not necessarily slow at times, other times it is skidding on under the lights. We saw it swing more under the lights at Dubai, we don't see it swing here as much. They've really got to remember where they are playing, what conditions are like and learn fast. There's no room to have a little think or learning in a non-positive way.

  5. 'Opportunity missed'published at 18:18 British Summer Time 5 October

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty: "We missed a good opportunity to beat a good side, as our bowlers did a good job. They started well in the Powerplay, but we kept the game in control in the last 10. We didn’t get many runs in the Powerplay and it cost us, and I got out at the wrong time.

"Mostary played really well, I am happy with how consistent she has been and I hope she carries on in the next games."

  8. 'We will have to be adaptable'published at 18:17 British Summer Time 5 October

England captain Heather Knight: "It was really nice to get a game in, it was tough out there, conditions were tough for boundary hitting and we are glad to get the win. It was not far off par, 135-140 would be good if we play on a wicket like that again. It’s not going to be beautiful or sexy all the time, if we get on these conditions again we are going to have to graft a bit. It got lower and slower as our innings went on.

"The team was picked on the first game and what was going on, what the bounce was like. We will have to be adaptable on different wickets and tonight was a good clue as to what it is going to be like."

  10. 'Good win in tough conditions'published at 18:04 British Summer Time 5 October

Player of the match Danni Wyatt-Hodge: "It was nice to get out there, we are delighted with the win in tough conditions. I am delighted to contribute, long may it continue.

"We did well to get that total, it was slow and low so we had to be brave. You are better going with your shots as your intent on a pitch like that

"Every game will be really challenging, it is important that we look and learn from tonight and go again."

Bangladesh really have rattled the cage there and have hopefully given England a bit of a wake-up call.

Probably a six out of 10, they got the job done but there's lots of room for improvement. They got the win pretty easily in the end. Danni Wyatt-Hodge was a standout and then, the bit of a shock was Linsey Smith, playing over Lauren Bell, she bowled beautifully. A good win for England and they will be celebrating that win.

I'm the same as the rest of the nation, relieved they've got the first win in the bag. People not out here knowing the conditions or what Bangladesh are like would think it would be a walkover, it wasn't. England should be happy like the rest of us that they've got that first win, hopefully with more to come.
